    The magic of the Fv mode is control. You can set the depth of field w/aperture. Set the blur with the Shutter Speed. Set the noise level with ISO. Then set the control ring to exposure compensation and get the shot you want without worry. If it’s too dark or light change the exposure compensation with the ring on the lens. I use it almost exclusively for Bird Photography. Kudos to Canon!

    I have an R5 and use Fv Mode exclusively! Once you get your brain around it's function, you will never shoot any other way!

    Full auto with manual override for every setting. We've had it since the R. All R cameras have it and it's the only mode I've used since I bought my R in week one. It is singularly the most misunderstood and most underutilized feature Canon has offered in years. Even you have only touched/seen the surface of it. It is the only mode you will ever use once you realize how it works.

      Manual override doesn't seem to work with every RF lens though..

    I love my R7 but I haven’t tried this mode. It could be real handy. I will give it a try. I have been using a fix aperture with auto ISO and only controlling my shutter and compensation. For me mostly shooting wildlife this has worked but having quick access to all four would be nice at times.

    Can the quad bar options be assigned to different buttons? For example, can I select iso with the top ISO button, then adjust with the top wheel? Can I assign aperture selection (just switching to the function) to another button? I would prefer not using touch screen functions if I can avoid it. A physical button or knob is more tactile and muscle memory will make things more consistent.

    Not to make light of the sight impaired, but a legally blind person can make good images with this technology. Pretty extraordinary.

      Im a member of the UK disabled photographer's society and we have a few people with sight issues, and they make great images. The use of rear camera and iPad type screens are really helpful for them. 👍

    Something seems weird to me about the FV mode. Can you set mins and maxes?
    This feels like it makes learning the exposure controls more complicated actually.
    If you take it out of auto on all three what happens if you change the exp comp?

    • @PeterGregg
      @PeterGregg  Рік тому +1

      Oh yes, and you absolutely need to do those settings too or you will be having a very hard time controlling "the animal" :)

    • @falxonPSN
      @falxonPSN Рік тому

      @hautehussy 100% agreed with you. It also further spreads the misinformation that there are four ways to adjust exposure, which he even says in this video. There are *always* only three ways to adjust exposure. Exposure compensation is literally just shorthand for "the one that I have not explicitly set." If using it with all three set, so basically manual, exposure compensation makes absolutely no sense.

    This video is a really an anti-advertisement for Canon R6 and the fabled Canon 'color science'!.

  • @skyscraperfan

    That is a bit too auto for me. I would prefer it if the long press of that button would not set everything to auto, as the camera might not know if I care more about low noise, freezing a movement or a long depth of field. Will the camera even choose different settings if it detects movements or will it just take the focal length, focus distance and amount into consideration?
    I usually use Av mode to get the sweet spot of the sharpness of a lens. As the R6 II has IBIS, it should be possible to keep ISO very low and use a very low shutter speed as long as there is no movement in the photo.
    I hope future Canon cameras will allow us to take a few photos with different settings in a fraction of a second. The R6 II allows 40 fps. Imagine you could get a series of photos of the same subject with ten different f-stops with a single click. That should be possible via a firmware update. The same could be done with noise. Take several versions of a photos from ISO 100 to ISO 3200 or so. Canon already does a similar think with focus bracketing, but I could think of many ways to use that 40 fps.

    • @lifepolicy
      @lifepolicy 7 місяців тому

      A year late but for everyone now reading that: when you press the delete button shorter than a second it just puts the current setting in auto. That way you can set a fixed iso and f-stop and the camera will adjust the shutter speed. And if needed you can switch back to full auto in just one second. Let's say you focused on a bird and he starts to fly away - hold the bin button - boom you are back in full auto and get those in-flight pictures.

    I was using FV mode on the canon r seven. But now, when I use the thumb dial to move it to one of the four modes to change, it just says locked and will not let me adjust. How do I get out of locked mode?

    • @PeterGregg

      When you can't figure something out - Google it!!!
      I Googled it and came up with this - don't know if it will help or not but you can go from there.
      cam.start.canon/en/C005/manual/html/UG-08_Set-up_0270.html
      Plus, there is a LOCK button on the TOP of the camera too.
