Today i put a good 20 runs on my 22s with the Maclan 3.5t and drk160. I love the adjustability of the hit and how the power comes on. Started doing more tire prep and cleaning between run and i am really happy with how my car is running. Now i need someone to race against !
GREAT VIDEO !!!! Love to see GearHeads spreading Knowledge... some people get caught Up in the “Im the Fastest” and forget what this Hobby is about!! Much Appreciated ...💪🏻
Nice vid. Building my car now. Starting with a Slash conversion. Going to run the Velinion system until I sort the suspension out and get it going straight. After some test and tune time I plan to step up to one of the high end esc and motors.
i ran a slash all season long until the very end i got this and started messing around and it ruined me. so focus on that one car and setup for sure. you will learn a lot and so much will change. heck so much will change in the next 3 months this hobby is going so fast :)
Hay I, thanks for the timing video, on my stock Dr10I actually use the pinion and spur to soften the hit and increase top speed/power at takeoff versus half way down the track. By upping my pinion tooth it made the power less therefore making the tires grip easier at the start, up the spur tooth for more power if needed but the added top speed of the increased pinion is a plus as well
That’s what I did with my slash but these higher turn motors and powerful batteries take that close spur and pinion ratio and generate lots of heat. Which means I got a heavier voltage sag and after a few hits cogging. Lots Of tools in the belt. Thanks for watching.
Great video man. I'm trying to learn more about setting the timing on the motor and esc and this video have helped me understand better on how the can and esc timing works. Thanks Chad
The Maclan DRK is sick, once you have it dialed in you just pull full throttle and watch her scream down the track, added a max timing function to help safe guard your motor/ esc
I run boost only but if you slow the boost rate down it gives you more power down low and its manageable I don't use a gnss just use a phone and some videos to tune it I start at 15k rpm and slowly go down until the car spins out and it will get your car out the hole pretty good
You’re gonna love it man. It’s so fun but can be frustrating. Just gotta keep it tame and learn the car. Takes a lot of time and effort to go fast. I kept falling down the list last year as others were putting in the work. But I’m coming for them. Lol
@@Dorkyand40 Yeah I think my biggest challenge is going to be doing a run, making adjustments, then doing the prep like cleaning the tires and letting everything cool down before testing my new settings. Rinse and repeat. Also looking for a good spot to test. I have a small local airport that might let me do some hits over by the hangars.
Great advice! New to electric!! But I have my third car now..traxxas 16 scale for my girl..then she gets me the infraction thank God yes hobbywing 1650kv and max6 smh batteries, losi 22s only new esc..but thinking on the hw 4.5 I'm sure..so question I kill my boys with the v2 so my girl gets me the losi...so building her now...with the hw set up do you think I can win real races around the country when other guys are running I guess better motors like to castle ect?? I've been following you for a few months you know the hobby and thank you for the knowledge!!!! From Georgia!
Majority of people are over geared. They think huge pinion and small spur and tons of turbo but thats not the case. I've switched over to a Turbo only tune and its been alot more consistent
I'm new to the game I just got a infraction v2 I'm doing no prep in Jacksonville fl my problem is wheel spin and just a basic card and a locked center diff 42t spur and I'm jumping back and forth with 25 to 20 tooth pion gear with the 25 I have a hesitation at jump I don't get it with the 20 is there more I can do with the stock esc and timing if I upgrade my card to something smarter since the esc is a smart ESC. And I'm spinning tires all the way down the strip
The maclan drk has some great presets that would work great with a decent 13.5 motor. After that it’s just test and tune. Rinse and repeat. I don’t even hit my wheelie bar on my 4.5t. That just makes the car unpredictable. You want a good controlled hole shot and the maclan 5 stage launch control is the key.
hey do most no prep groups out there run only 2s and not 3s. and if so why not? i have a shorty lihv that prob weights just as much as my 100c 2s but my motor gets way better response being its sensorless. can a person start a leauge with their own rule sand see who joins
After reading the comments, How about a video on the DX5C. I noticed it in your video and in the comments that some people have helped you with it.I'm having a hard time with it and no one to ask for help. I'm using Castle Creation Mamba X and the 1406 7700kv motor. Any help with my setup.
only thing i do is to limit my steering and steering dual rates. i can manage punch and throttle in the esc. i hear castle is a little behind on this for on the fly setups? thats where the radio can help
Yes. Look at my other videos and see why. The 5 stage launch control is the key to not chasing issues that don’t exist. Able to control the hit and get the car going and then pour it on. I’m sure others will have this kind of software eventually but for now nobody does and that’s why they are winning the big events.
Yo. Subbed. Got my slash no prep build underway for the new year. Not sure what to get for electronic. Sensored or sensorless ? Radio? High end or stock tqi? What’s up
Def some kind of sensored brushless system that has programming ability like I described in this video. It’s just vital to be able to control power at the start and finish within the esc. Any of the big names. I have hobbywing just because I like their products from my racing drones. Lot of opinions on this stuff and really it comes down to who has what in stock. Radio wise I just use a spectrum dx5 since most people around me use that and have been able to teach me about radio settings. Price is good too.
@@Dorkyand40 I have some things in mind. Love hobby wing too especially the programming. I plan to continue to upgrade. But I’m gonna start with a sensorless setup. Cheap Amazon knockoff stuff(I know, don’t get upset) and document it. And as I upgrade I will document along the way with video and spreadsheets etc. my goal is to prove or disprove needing the same setup as everyone else uses to achieve the same results. I remember a friend of mine back in the day building a Chevy nova (irl) with his own motor parts and finding stuff in junkyards etc that cost him next to nothing and him smoking people at the track with expensive setups. He never even painted the body.
I agree man. If you look at a few of the videos in my past playlist you’ll see that I followed a lot of hype and it caused nothing but problems and wasting money. So I decided to go with the dr10 vs the slash because it just seems to generally work without much fuss. Then the hobbywing setup because the esc tuning ive seen is really important for controlling the hit and the first 20 ft. And the radio cause it’s only $100 and I can use it with all my other stuff and I can get help. Some serious guys have $500 radios and that’s just nuts. Also the hobbywing North American support has been great help explaining things to me. But a lot applies across the board.

Awesome. Glad you’re enjoying yourself. The races will come and it sounds like you’ll be ready
Good vid... I usually set my endbell as high as I can get it, for no pep surface. to leave straight and hard, then work from there
if your car is dialed then for sure but like me a lot of people just floor it from the start with alll the timing and then have problems :)
I'm running b4, homade parts, 2.7 best.installing a castle setup! Looking for lower times, i might destoy this car, lol!

I just purchased the same system thank you for all the info I got to start tuning a lot help thanks you for you channel
Enjoy it

Awesome. Hope we can keep it going for ya
thanks for the timing video you answered a lot for me. just got the Dr10. I'm going with 4.0 hole shot and the tekin gen3 esc.
Nice man. You’re welcome. Start slow. Seems like 20deg bell is the standard now. Get her going and build it up. Have fun out there

Thanks for this its helped alot new motor and esc will be in over the winter it will definitely help for turning
Hope so!

If you are worried about Lipo voltage sag, try using GRAPHENE batteries!
All max amps packs have graphemes
Good info. I just ordered a R1 wurks. Have you played around with them yet? Looks pretty user-friendly.
Any suggestions for a 13.5 setup where we need to be in “blinky” mode with no wheelie bar?

the national NPRC rules are for 2S only. some groups like mine also run a street outlaw class that is run what you brung..so anything :)

hey i’m new to this and thinking ab getting a new motor, 8500 kv with a 3s battery , is it good?
2s is the nprc standard. Keep that in mind if you want to race at most events.
@@Dorkyand40 ohhhh appreciate ghat
I have a 8s mamba x esc on my dr10 ..I know it's super overkill...my question is can that slow me down compared to a 10th scale esc? Thanks
Not really the size of the esc but the firmware on it to control the power. That’s why the maclans work so well.
So do you like the maclan over the castle esc?
Yes. Look at my other videos and see why. The 5 stage launch control is the key to not chasing issues that don’t exist. Able to control the hit and get the car going and then pour it on.
