    I lived in Vancouver for 20 years. I was homeless on fourth plain in that park. I would sleep at the burgerville at the outside benches before they put the fence up… there’s a lot of bad people and I’m unsure how I’m alive today… I moved in 2014…..Tomorrow I meet with my psychiatrist. Haha

      BareNakedWaffle, Central Park has been updated and improved. Granted, Fourth Plain is not the best area. Especially The alphabet streets between Fourth Plain and SR 500 should be avoided (Rosemere neighborhood). I've lived in Vancouver for 48 years, and most of the neighborhoods provide a great place to live. Your comment seems excessively negative. 🤷

    • @livinginvanwashington
      @livinginvanwashington  2 роки тому

      Thank you and thanks for watching! There isn't really a night club scene in Vancouver to the best of my knowledge, if that was what you were leaning toward for entertainment. If you want to shoot me an email with more specifics on that one I'd be happy to clarify. There's a variety of different dining options all across the county, from BBQ to French cuisine and more. The main shopping mall in Vancouver is the Vancouver Mall. However, there are other shopping centers all across the area, with everything from Target & Kohls, to small boutique shops. Grocery shopping is the same story; from Winco, Wal-Mart, and Fred Meyer, to New Seasons and local favorites like Chuck's Produce. Hope that helps!

    This is helpful. I'm from the bay area but used to live in northern Washington when I was a kid. Currently living in Oakland, California and I really hope Vancouver is faaar better than the crime, filth, and litter, here. It's such a great city so such a shame. I wouldn't want to move somewhere where the same problems are rampant. It's one of the main reasons I want to move.

      Thanks for watching Michelle, glad you're getting some good information! How ironic, I just met someone from the Bay area that just made the move up here. She had the same complaints about the Bay area, which is why she moved. From the conversation we had, she's very happy with the decision. If I can help in any way, don't hesitate to let me know. • @livinginvanwashington
      @livinginvanwashington  Рік тому +1

      @@michelleminer2190 overall, I would say that you're going to be pretty safe when it comes to volcanoes. The 3 mountains closest to Vancouver; St. Helens, Adams, and Hood have all erupted at different times over the years. Mount St. Helens being the most recent in 1980. Before that you had Mt. Hood in the 1800's, and according to the USGS, Mt. Adams last erupted roughly 3,800 years ago.

    what kinds of crimes happen in fruit valley? i grew up there and nothing has really happened. the worst thing i can think of is one nearby house having an armed individual angry at someone, in an unknown situation that me and my brother overheard and witnessed the cops and SWAT show up for.

    • @livinginvanwashington
      @livinginvanwashington  Рік тому

      Aside from the SWAT deployment that you experienced, according to the Vancouver Police Department, since January 1st, 2023 there have been multiple Aggravated Assault calls, multiple Motor Vehicle Thefts, one homicide, multiple commercial burglaries (which makes sense given that it's primarily an industrial area), one arson call, one bank robbery, a few weapons violations calls, and those are just the higher level crimes that I searched by.

    The only consistently good place left to live in Vancouver, WA is the far east side of Vancouver into Camas. East of 164th, or east of 192nd, Between SE 1st and Hwy 14, and some parts of Fishers Landing. Stay away from Hazel Dell, or Minnehaha, or Hwy 99 areas and most of the West side of Vancouver, WA is full of drugs, homelessness, and crime. Even Felida and Salmon Creek are starting to see homeless people and crime creep into their neighborhoods. All of what I mentioned, and the gray, rainy skies, depressing gloom for nine months does not warrant the high home prices.

      Vancouver has become a shit hole riddled with homelessness, increasingly high rent and basically unless you made a solid wage you still going to be in the ghetto and barely making it. I live in bagleydowns and it’s not what it used to be.

      @@mrxavier6329 Hazel Dell is a mixed bag. It isn't a slum by any means (yet) but its also not the safest. I had a friend who owned there. Gun shot one night and police barricade prevented entry into the whole neighborhood. Vagabonds buzzing around garbage cans on trash day like a cemetery fly . Lots of hillbilly, lower class types live amongst the good folks, where they drive loud exhaust piped cars around the streets, and just cause a ruckus. Keep your doors and windows locked tight at night, and always make sure your cell phone is charged. Keep your car in the garage if you can. Good Luck.

    How does crime in Vancouver compare to Olympia?

    • @livinginvanwashington
      @livinginvanwashington  2 роки тому

      From what I can find, for overall Violent and Property Crime, they're pretty close to one another in terms of numbers. One thing to take into consideration though is the size difference between the two cities. Olympia has approximately 55,000 residents, where Vancouver is at roughly 180,000. I will confess though that I don't know much about the Olympia area, so if anyone that sees this can add to the discussion, it would be much appreciated. Thanks for watching!

      @@livinginvanwashington the only thing I can contribute is that I was passing through downtown Olympia around dusk back around 2017. It was very empty except for the presence of what appeared to be homeless individuals. I asked a police officer at Starbucks whether downtown Olympia was safe at night, and she said no. In contrast, I worked in W. Seattle in 2018, and felt very safe at night. That was in Admiral and Alaska junctions and the ferry building area.
