I used to live in the Coov, and if I ever move back to the Portland area, I'll be there again! What people need to know about Vancouver, is that it's not as separated from Portland as say Ogden or Provo is from Salt Lake City, or Tacoma and Everett are from Seattle. Those places are 30-40 miles out and kind of like "stand alones". Vancouver is literally right on top of Portland and you literally breath the same oxygen molecules!
I don't want HOAs because they're usually mismanaged, go bankrupt and the prices skyrocket. I used to live in a condo where my HOA was $100 a month. Now I look on zillow and the monthly HOA there now is 600 dollars. I can handle property taxes going up but HOAs are a unpredictable expense on something long term like your house.
It’s easy to take a place for granted. I definitely took my hometown for granted a bit when I lived there. I’m happy that my chosen cities have been so great, albeit in different ways. One of the many things I love about Vancouver is that we have so many parks. Even though I don’t have young children it’s so pleasant.
I lived in Ridgefield WA moved to San Diego where I'm from but it's too expensive to live there anymore. Thinking about moving back to Minnehaha or Camas area next year. Beautiful there.
I am a disabled Marine, and I have lived here for a couple years now. The Vancouver VA has many things available, and the Portland VA has anything they are missing and is only a 30 minute drive away. (I live a couple blocks away from the Vancouver VA)
I'm glad to hear that! My husband lived in the Atlanta area for 8 or 9 years and I'm sure he would tell you that's it's very very different, but he likes it better here.
Do you want to sign up to the Next Door app for the neighborhood that you’re considering moving into because we have a lot of crime it’s getting so bad and there are homeless camps everywhere
Is Vancouver walkable? We’re thinking of moving and one of the big things for us is being able to not rely on cars as much as we do here (little to no public transportation and almost nothing is really in walking distance). We’re also considering Portland, but the taxes and education system is also making me lean toward Vancouver.
I lived in Vancouver for 20+ years. I raised my son there. One of those neighborhoods you mentioned I have never heard about. I'm done there. It isn't my home town, but it's nice to contemplate it a bit since it used to be home.
My address was 14th & Markle. We called it “VANBEARIA”. There was a kegger somewhere close, always. Friendly people. Cops were always close by, the courthouse just blocks away. “The cops were friendly too”. I was 18, we split $175. I think Im around 65 or so now, Retired out in Fern Prairie, It’s a little bit like Vancouver was. And “you are headed our way”, thanks to the Colombia River. Plenty of room out here. DKS!
Thank you for adding a segment about crime! We’re moving there in the next week from central North Carolina, and the crime stats kinda have me freaked. I’ve never had to worry about my car being broken into/stolen anywhere on the east coast, it’s just a nonissue here. I especially started looking up crime because I was looking up what my local grocery stores would be there and all the reviews stated there was security guards checking receipts or having locked codes on bathrooms because of high theft? Also unlike anything I’ve seen over here. Guess what I’m trying to ask is it as bad as what it’s coming across? Is crime something you have to think about day to day and actively navigate? I’m a vigilant person naturally, but I’m anxious to be moving into an area where it’s just going to be a fact of life to deal with the crime 😕
Vancouver as a whole we have a homeless problem thanks to Portland. They just walk across the bridges. Shoplifting is a thing mostly homeless. There are stores that have certain items locked up. Depending where you are in the Vancouver area will determine that. Cars getting stolen and house break ins aren't common. However, your Cadillac converter being stolen does happen.
When you relocate to WA, I hope you have a much easier commute! But I appreciate the honor of accompanying you on your drive home. Just curious, when are you thinking about making a move?
want to move to Vancouver I wanted to know if there is public transportation like bus trains ..and universities in Vancouver or universities close to Vancouver. Which side of town do you recommend
Yes there is a public busing system. WSUV is just north of Vancouver. Washington State University Vancouver Campus. There is also Clark Community College. I would suggest living North of SR 500. Most of Lakeshore and Felida are VERY nice and decently affordable if you are buying. Rent is HIGH here. Average house 2K+ a month. Apartment 1400+.
Comparing apples to apples, what are the property taxes like in Portland vs Vancouver? I heard that Washington state imposes an excise tax on the seller of their property? If you've covered this subject before and it's still current, please direct me to that vidro. I find your videos some of the best because you're honest and not hypey. And please don't compare Lake Oswego [the Beverly Hills of Portland] to Vancouver proper. That is NOT apples to apples.
I didn’t realize that this was about Vancouver, WA when it showed up on my feed, as I live in Northern British Columbia, so I thought it was in reference to Vancouver, CANADA. Still, after a minute or two, I was drawn in because I knew nothing about “ that other Vancouver”. Very interesting stuff.
Great question! For my husband and I it simply came down to the tax advantages WA offers as well as living in a town with less people and slightly lower housing prices - BUT being close enough (abt 15 minutes) to all the cool & unique aspects of Portland that we love & indulge on a weekly basis... I look at Vancouver more as a suburb of Portland than an entirely different city & state. Thanks again - Hal
@@TurtleWatching you must be joking. It’s only slightly safer the scumbags have come over the bridge and we’ve got so much more crime now and so much more homelessness

That Puget Sound traffic is insane! We got stuck in the Woodland I-5 traffic the other day. Thankfully, it's not permanent. I heard a joke the other day that WA is 8 months of gray & 4 months of construction. It's not entirely unture haha. I just try to enjoy whatever the day holds for us :)
I said employment rate and Vancouver, Washington and Regina releasing the money to the people who were working in 2022 but employment office. They would not answer the question that you don’t want to believe that money would it be able
I love no income tax. 10 min away no sales tax! Best of both worlds. Our gas however isnt cheap. Also Vancouver is a more stand alone city then a suburb these days. 20 years ago vast majority of jobs were in Portland, Not anymore. I feel Vancouver people(My people) are a lot like Portland people. They don't like us, we don't like them but we all dislike Californians. :) Born and raised here.
Our gas isn't cheap, but somehow our WA Costco gas is usually cheaper than the Portland Costco's. Best of both worlds is right too. Appreciate you watching!
Vancouver can't take much more population increase. it is near gridlock at times. The government is also locating many migrants here and they get everything for free, Property taxes are high and only going to get higher.
Don’t forget, so many new people coming from Portland and California, it has turned into a city of idiots for driving. The traffic jams have gotten out of control. Super bright car and truck lights at night. Always get blinded while driving. Homeless people. No modern architecture. Vancouver sucks. No job opportunities either.
And aggressive drivers. Vancouver was great 10 years ago. Even if unconstitutional laws were not passed recently my family and I will still be moving just due to the overcrowding and rude people bad drivers and the tweakers and bums.
To say that Vancouver is a suburb of Portland is an insult to anyone in Vancouver. We are divided by the Columbia River and live in ANOTHER state. BTW, 90% of the population and drug increase is coming from Portland due to terrible woke government and Oregon's crime/fentanyl problem/acceptance. The woodsy dream of the NW is dead in Vancouver and we're being overrun with traffic and new apartments that add thousands of people at once and they're being built at a much higher rate than housing. Expect to pay half a million for starter homes and ridiculous prices for apartments. Don't buy the BS.
Or how about the government using the people and visit Vancouver and collect a child support and give it to her mother and her jaywalking law for Jeff to Granite that bullshit to log in to the husband cannot get out of the deck for being the child support which is insane
To live in Vancouver has been my dream for a few years now. And now that I know is also called “Vantucky” just makes my desire greater now! 😃 BTW all services are way more expensive in CA than in Vantucky. Perhaps medical is easier to find but given the insurance premiums , co-pays, etc. is cheaper to ride it out and hope you don’t die! 😂
