I feel like Tony Hawk got so much hype that people just kind of believed that he was overhyped, and now that that's wearing off it's like "Oh yeah this is why he got so much hype."
Thomas Straight Rodney is kind of a bit shy compared to someone like tony while talking on camera so I think that largely has something to do with it. Rodney was the face of freestyle but skateboarding just changed to more street and vert where although he transitioned to street, it gave more focus to other skaters and tony was more marketable in ways. Ultimately though it is Rodney truly responsible for so much of what we know skateboarding as today
This is good, because the kids that he meets on his Secret Tour will actually be the kids ho hang at the skate parks everyday. He will get to touch the lives of those who really appreciate skating and not those who chase Celebrity. I mean we'd all love to meet Tony Hawk but I don't skate, it is unfair on announced visits that the real fans get caught in a melee trying to meet one of their hero's
Exactly what I was going to say. TH came to my town, and it was announced since our skate park was new and the mayor even built a concrete loop. They only spent about an hour outside and went back to the trailer. Didn't do any fan service. The temps that day were 95F not including humidity. So I don't blame them and I'm not complaining.
Love this. I love seeing kids getting out there and skateboarding and enjoying life. And for the fact that Tony Hawk and other pros show up and hang out with the kids, makes me appreciate this amazing athletes more
John Wick is good at what he does, but he still wears a kevlar vest. Someone at Tony's age might get a random heart attack while skateboarding and land on his head. Things happen.
If u still doubt it then rewatch it. its legit he did it, also you say he did it "easily" right? Well because he praticed to do it? Also do not call someone "GOAT." because if you doubt he did it real then? What? Huh? Complaining and saying he is a "GOAT."?. Maybe try to make a less offensive comment?
+Chris_htepO - It did. It did happen in Iowa lol. I was born and raised in Iowa. I'd say there are plenty of things to do there if you go looking for it.
the positive vibe in skating makes up for the injuries, everyone at the skatepark is very supportive and they are all struggling to land whatever it is they want to do. I love skateboarding and tony hawk is amazing for doing this
I've just turned 40 and I'd still be completely starstruck if this lot turned up at my local park. I am old enough to remember the release of all the old films first time around in fact I remember a couple of mates going to London to see the premier of Ban This and I think Ray Barbee was there with a couple other big names at the time. This has made me smile a lot as there can't be many sports where the top names in the game care so much about the grass roots. Good work guys, keep shredding!!!
Me and my buddy went down to our local skatepark in Sundsvall, Sweden 2-3 years ago. All of a sudden two big vans roll by. It just so happens to be the Sweet team with none other than Wes Kremer! One of the best nights we've had that summer. Just awesome to watch those guys skate
All these kiddos shown are adults now and we all know that they will still talk about this day they met Tony Hawk in their local skate park and nobody gonna believe them :D
One of the biggest reasons I like Tony more than most pros is because he's goofy footed like me. It gets hard to get invested when you can't even project yourself skating like some of those guys.
It means so much to the young groms. To actually see and talk to the pro's. They need to know you are real. Not just see videos. But to actually see how the tricks are done. In action. Its such a cool feeling of joy. It becomes pure. ✌😎
Watching this in 2019 realizing this was right before everyone had a smartphone... kids holding fkn camcorders, getting autographs on their shit. 2011 sure was a simpler time.
Had a new skate park open in OKC a few months back and Tony and Mike V came for the ribbon cutting and skated with the locals on opening day. Great guys. Tony as expected was awesome, but next to him, Mike V is hands down coolest skater out there. He was taking time to sign stuff, teaching some tricks to the kids, taking selfies, all-around cool dude
Tony Hawk, Lance Mountain, Mike McGill & the Alva boys did this in 1988 @ Prahran ramp in Melbourne. Me & my grade 6 mates were all there. I'll never forget it. 30 years ago.
What I truly love about skateboarding is, that it is an underground sport. Made from the street for the street. And I love seeing the people who "made it" give back to the street.
I grew up skating in the 1980's toy early 2000's. I skated for 9 years, until I had a very bad wipeout. I remember the Bones Brigade coming to my hometown and they had this giant folding ramp. Tony Hawn and the rest of the Bones Brigade were also there. Tony came and skated street with us, along with several other skaters. I remember Steve Caballero, Mike McGill, and Tommy Guerrero skating also. Awesome. Then a years or so after that, Santa Monica Airlines (SMA) came to town on a tour, and Natas Kaupas skated with us. They were all real cool and never ragged on us because they were better skaters, They encouraged us. The fact that they actually came to WV was crazy, but them skating with us took the experience to a whole new level...
Feel ya man. Before I had the time but not the money. Now I got the money but not the time. When I got the time and the money I'll be too old to do it :(
"There aren't any other sports where you can say professionals show up at your local spot. It certainly doesn't happen in ball sports". Bruh imagine you're trying to play some pickup football and Aaron Donald shows up 😂
The creators of the game SKATE need to watch this video and add in attributes. For Example: Your skater starts at lvl 1, who just finished "skate school" (or whatever you want to cal it) and only knows the basics.(basic grinding, olies, kickflips, etc) leveling up by gaining experience, and gaining experience by completing missions. With every level you gain, you also gain an attribute. (1 attribute per level) and you can upgrade your strengths for your skater. Like if you want to be good at hitting ramps and doing tricks off ramps, you can upgrade that attribute. Or maybe you want to be able to grind for a long period of time and do tricks while grinding, you can upgrade that attribute and etc.
I think this is a totally cool idea, but if you're going to inspire the youth of tomorrow, you should all be wearing helmets. Yes, even the little 18 year old phenoms that are afraid to mess up their Taylor Hanson hairdo's.
that's why i fucking love tony! always wears a helmet end other protective gear, he doesn't give a shit about having the "cool" skater look, he cares about the skill
Yeah, I made that mistake back when i was 17, and due to injury, i cannot skate anymore. You wanna be cool, don't fuck yourself up and ruin your passion.
Truth is that you face brain injury with or without a helmet. You're going to die one day anyways, if we wanted to be safe we wouldn't be riding skateboards in the first place. If we're going to risk our bodies we're going to be comfortable doing it because the joy of feeling the wind blast through your hair is worth the extra stitches to match your concussion that a helmet wouldn't have prevented
Said the same thing when Alva came to Texas I was bummed Jay didnt come but got to skate a bit with Alva... getting old sucks but if you live hard and play hard you have memories which make you smile when your an old gnarly geezer..
