the lower the income the higher percentage of the budget is dedicated to housing and food for the same city/region/state. Of course the lower income family could find a cheaper house or rent, but statistically and realistically they do not choose the market prices: lower income families dedicate far more of their budget percentage to food, lodging , because such categories are not easily reduced as you’ve done in your lower budget income. Like the idea of your series...but it needs a bit of reworking.

Hi Marissa, are you going to go higher? I’d love to see one for $180K as that’s what we are working with. Thanks!

This is very interesting. I know a few people in my area that make close to 120k and their take home pay is closer to 5500 than 7000 a month. Interesting to see how much it really can vary depending on state and other items.

They probably have their 401k setup, or HSA etc

I make 120k and my take home is actually around 5500, after maxing out 401k, maxing out HSA and taxes as a single

125k here and take home after retirement and HSA contributions is around 5200. We have a 5% state tax on income.

@Sungkim95 do you max out the annual max or the company match?

Hi Marissa, loved the video. Seeing your face whilst running through the template is so personal and ads a beautiful touch to it. Love the fact that you and hubby each gets $100 a month for spending. In the beginning of my marriage it was real important to get a system like that going to control spending, BUT it's a winning formula. Happy I came across your channel, say hi to baby Peter. Subscribed!

Marissa, can you explain how you are going about setting up retirement accounts? Including if your employer offers a 401k match (lets say up to 6%) would you do the full match monthly before fully contributing to a Roth IRA or split your extra funds between the two? Maybe you could make a video covering how you and Jacob are going about this.

When making a nice 6 figure salary there are more expenses especially when self employed. Like disability and life insurance 1k per month. Health insurance for a family of five $1,400 per month.

This was when things were great. 4 years ago exactly! You can barely find a rent/mortgage for under 2k now :(

How do you track actual spending for that month? (Overall curious about your process and also specifically how it's tracked on the spreadsheet)

The rent at $1,700 was funny because that’s just non-existent in CA lol

Aren’t car payments supposed to go in the transportation category?

Love your videos! Do you maintain separate bank accounts for savings, emergency fund and take home fund? Novice question :)

Didn't you do this series a few years ago? I love the idea either way!

Yeah and each of the videos are exactly the same percentages for each pay bracket, just plugging in the same excel sheet and her saying exactly the same things, down to the “family of 3” “mascara as a misc item”. Guess that the UA-cam hack 😒😒😒

For your budget template, specifically on google sheets, is it possible to add cells to certain categories?

Is it normal for someone to have a "take home pay " of 70% of income?

I miss the days when groceries were that cheap! My husband and I spent $800 on groceries last month.
