If you own a 2011-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee and are either wanting to remove your cabin air filter or curious if your vehicle even has one.....here is a video that explains how to access the cabin air filter on your vehicle. The cabin air filter on this vehicle is located inside the vehicle. Some vehicles have them on the outside while this one isnt. To gain access to the filter, you will need to remove the glove box and then remove the access door to reach the filter. The glove box has a retractable cord that slows the opening of the door and aids in closing it as well. The cord itself will need to be removed inorder to allow the glove box door to lower enough to release the catches and position it so that you can lift it off of its hinges. The cord is attached to a plastic hook assembly that slides in place on the side of the glove box door. Once you slide it out of the opening it attaches to....you can then reach in and squeeze inward on both of the glove box door sides. Then once the catches are no longer holding it back....you open the door even further and then lift it up off of its hinges. No we can sit the glove box assembly to the side and move on to getting to the access door for the filter. The access door is located behind a cut out in the glove box cavity. You need to release the latch on the far left side and one on the upper mid portion of the access door. Once released you pull outward on the left side and swing it out of the way. Once repositioned, you can lift the access door off of its hinge/pivot on the far right side. Now you can see the cabin filter along with its part number and the "down" positioning arrows. You need to reach in on one side and grab the filter and start pulling it out. Once out....grab the new filter and make sure you have it positioned correctly by the markings on the filter. The rest of the procedure is to reinstall all the items in the opposite manner that it was removed.

You are amazing. I am a 52 year old single mother and I just changed my air filter. Thank you!
Great job, my hats off to you! Thanks for commenting and for watching. Make sure to subscribe and check out my other videos.
@@MotorCityMechanic thanks so much. I didn't even know we had one. I would love to show you a picture of my dirty filter. Obviously a mouse made his house in the filter. It explains the spell. It was so easy. But I hope I can get the door back on
I needed to do this on my wife's car. I'm pretty confident as far as a home mechanic goes, I just like to see all the stuff before I attempt it. Any other video like this would never have gone into detail like this. I feel like my grandmother could do this filter change now. I subbed!
Much appreciated Stuart! Thanks for the feedback about the content and the details. I try to include as much as possible yet not too much. Thanks for having subscribed as well.
Thank you for this video. It gave me the confidence to change my own filter. I have replaced my cabin air filter twice as the first one was pretty dirty after only a year. I have a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit and I ended up being able to access the filter by just removing the little shelf above my glove box. Inside the box, I have a tray that sits above the box and holds my owner's manual. When I pulled that out I was able to gain access to the air filter. I didn't have to remove the entire door or even the safety cord. Thank you again for making this. I'm sure you saved me a lot of money.
Your welcome. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. Make sure to subscribe and check out my other videos. There are plenty more where that one came from.
Great video. I watch this as a refresher each time I need to replace the cabin filter in my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

+Sha Mohammed Awesome. Glad you found it helpful. Make sure to subscribe and thanks again for watching.
Thanks for the video - FYI for those in RH drive cars, it's exactly the same ie: behind the glovebox - it's not buried under the steering! One note, make sure you don't let go of the string suddenly, or it disappears into the dash! You can get it out with needle nose pliers though.
Chris McKeon Thanks Chris for the added info. Always appreciated. Make sure to subscribe
I agree, the video is extremely helpful. I wish I would have read your "One Note" about the tension string. I let it go too quickly and the entire tension assembly came out. It took an extra 30 minutes to reach the string and put the tension pulley back in the right place. My mistake, but I would encourage people to watch-out as you noted.
Thanks for sharing this info.
+Thomas Henn Your very much welcome. Thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe as well

Hey bro i have a gc 2014 summit and i think dust its coming out the vents or under the glove box and i already changed the cabin air filter! Please helpe me
Don't allow the friction clip to snap back . It will contract into the dash area and disconnect , requiring taking apart the dash to reattach . Good vid......and helpful. I will be taking the vehicle to the dealership for repair.
Thanks for the feedback. It's greatly appreciated. Make sure to subscribe

Hi David. Would the filter be on driver side on a UK spec cherokee that has righ hand drive? Thanks
Stupid me didn't watch video 1st, #1 glove box retaining rope went behind box opening. Anyway to locate and get it back out? #2 At the back top of the bin, there are two slides opening holding something to the back side. What is it and if it got to the open position, again what the chance it can be found without removing more parts?
I changed my and now is just blowing hot air, what can be the problem?
You are the man!
+Craig Jones thanks Craig! Make sure to subscribe and keep watching!
Already done. Thanks, MCM : )
Awesome ty :D
The little cord that you disconnected from the glovebox and "set to the side" actually reeled itself into no mans land when I just did this. I heard it wind itself up and watched it disappear, and I can't seem to locate it. For now, I put everything back together, but the glovebox doesn't have the dampened opening now. Any idea how I can find the cord and fetch it back?
Very Helpful, should save be about 120 bucks from dealer
Your probably right about that. Thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe
They wanted to charge me like 50 bucks or something for this. the filter itself was 20 and I did it in 5 minutes thanks to your video. Only thing is, I cannot get the plate to snap back into place perfectly on the access hole to the air filter. The left side snaps in, but the right won't. I guess it really isn't a big deal since its behind the glove box and no one will ever see it, but a little frustrating nonetheless.
Thx 🙂
You are welcome! Thanks checking the video out and make sure to subscribe
You don't have to take the glove box out at all. Just remove owner's manual tray above to gain access.
Thank you! How do we know which one to purchase? I bought two from Walmart, but they were wrong size
You don't ever blow some Low/High pressure air in the space to clear any debris that may have come loose or is hung up? I have done it before and had some dirt come free, the only issue was cleaning it up off the seats and dashboard. Always like to hear suggestions from everyone. Always great videos keep them coming Brother.
Thank you for this. Really helpful. One small question . . . I bought my car used, and I have a slight smoke smell from the air and heat. Is there a filter that can help eliminate these odors? Or, can I spray the filer with Fabrese?
Some cabin filters can help with smells. I see no issue with spraying it with fabrese.....I am sure it could help as well for a short period of time.
After replacing the cabin air filter for the 5th or so time on my 14 GC Limited 3.6L, the center latch/clip on the blower housing itself broke.
It's not whistling or making noise...is it a big deal?
Thanks for all the videos.
I think you will be fine.....you still have the 2 outer so its not going anywhere. Thanks for watching the video and dont forget to subscribe and share the videos.
❗️WARNING❗️Do not let go of the little cord, secure it by adding weight to it. By letting it go it may retract up where it's impossible to get. I listened to this guy by letting it go and can't find the cord anymore.
I still don’t get how the air flow would come from the top and go down. I just changed the cabin air filter and put my arrow pointing up . Oh crap guess I have to flip it , thanks.
The blower motor sucks the air into the box.....the air filter is always located in the inlet side of the hvac box before the blower motor so the arrow pointing down is the direction the air is flowing into the box.
great vid how do I remove the front headrest on my 2014 grand Cherokee do a vid on it thanks...
Lee Ondrak I will try to remember to get you a video on that the next time I have one in the shop. Thanks for watching and for the request. Make sure to subscribe so you get notifed when a video such as the one you requested are uploaded to this channel
What is the differences between air filters ?
Some are $15.00 or $20.00 or $30.00 or $40.00 at O'Reilly's.
Please educate us or did you do a video already ?
Much easier to change than an older Honda!
I will have to take your word on it haha. thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe
Great video thank you! This might be a dumb question but when purchasing the replacement filter what about be looking for?
Should*
+Christina Dorch Christina.....exactly what are you wanting to know? Sorry for the confusion but I just want to be sure about what your asking
Hi Lee , I have a 2012 GC and the headrest cannot be removed, its wired in. . hope they changed that for the 2014.
you can take the headrest off you have to pull the plastic off the back of your seats then there is a yellow plug u simply unplug it then pop the little plastic piece off the post that doesn't have a button to move it up and down would be on left on drivers seat and right on passenger seat if your sitting in the back seat there is a hidden button under the round plastic peace then headrest will come right off... I know this is old but hope it helps
