Jimmy Page's classic solo in Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" seems to jump out at you from out of nowhere.
To help with this effect, Jimmy Page uses an in your face guitar tone created by leaving his wah pedal engaged and left all the way in the forward position.
With that tone he plays a series of blistering guitar licks and gigantic bends. Really, the bends Jimmy Page plays in this solo are simply ridiculous. :)
The first lick in this Whole Lotta Love guitar solo lesson is pretty much a sped up blues lick. Easy enough I guess. But then Jimmy Page launches into a flurry of pull-offs across multiple strings. In order to help you fully grasp this particular lick I break it down into two different parts. You will get it down in no time. :)
From there we start to run into all of those bends. Like I say in the video, don't spend hours at a time trying to master those bends. If you do you probably won't have any calluses left at all. :) Just work on them a few minutes at a time to give your hands a break and I am sure you will still get everything down rather quickly.
The bends in question include one that is the distance of TWO whole steps. Yikes!! Then in addition to that we have a couple more bends encompassing 1 1/2 steps. That is no walk in the park either.
But, it is well worth the time and effort put into making sure those bends are in tune. The effect of pulling them all off correctly is very cool.
So I hope you enjoy learning this classic Jimmy Page solo. Just remember, take it easy on those calluses. :)
Carl..
I just graduated from Marty music to guitarlessons365song👨🎓👩🎓
AMAZING!
Lol. I used to use him and I was like geez he's going so slow now and then I found this guy
@@keykeyscales he also teaches a lot of things incorrectly
Lol... I also learn from these two guys 🤣
I like carl because his tutorial are more accurate than marty music. Some people do like marty because i think he was more dreamy or energetic that's why
He's right my fingers are completely shredded
mine aren't, i have played guitar so long that my fingers turned to leather.
@@ajpoltz leather hah
I've beem playing for 5 years but never learned a song completely and with solo until today I feel happy 😁😁😁
Count me as 10
5 years and you’ve never learnt a song!!!…. Wtf have you been doing for 5 years 🤣

This is one of my favourite solos. Anyone else?
Joe me
Joe same
Same dude
Same
Same
Good tutorial appreciate your time to put out free licks and riffs.
This solo was a lot easier than i thought the second part especially it sounded a lot more difficult than it was
The Blues is easy to play but hard to feel. You can guess who said that.
@@tompenfold5367 Hendrix?
I replaced the two step bends with a smaller bend on the high E.
That makes it sound too close to the 19 fret bend after though.
Nobody notices how much this guy makes his strat sound almost identical to page
Carl is a wizard
solo 1 1:00
solo 2 3:10
solo 3 3:27
solo 4 4:03
solo 5 4:48
solo 6 4:53
solo 7 5:27
I cant do the second lick!😭😭
I don't think anyone has quite figured out what Page does there...
You can, it just takes time
Lamby Corn yeah jimmy was a pretty “sloppy” player anyway (in a good way; he had emotion) so he probably wasn’t thinking about it too hard when he played it. Just play through it (:
yeah, it’s a little tricky and tough to get at first but it gets easier. hope you got it down :)
@@gunjabeans sometimes page doesnt even remember, never the same way twice live on that one )
This is one of my favourite solos. Anyone else?
I cant do the second lick!😭😭
Good tutorial appreciate your time to put out free licks and riffs.
Can you do it now? lol I just started learning. Just make up your own version. Pretty much, after the first little slide starter, just do rapid hammer and pulls on the 2nd fret B, G and D strings and it will sound kinda ok, if you play along as well.
Thanks Carl! As usual, an enjoyable accurate lesson!
Me:*looking at my calluses in my fingertips * 🤨well to late now 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah I just relearned this solo man and my calluses definitely showing like after working out and you see all your muscles lol
I was warming up by playing "We're Gonna Groove" from 0:00 to 0:34 and it randomly matched up perfectly with your solo. Rock on lol.
Great lesson thanks. Threw me a little when you said pull off 12 to 17 when it's 20 to 17 but I got it from the video. Nice work, thanks 😊
I’m so grateful for you to take the time for us and that little part at the end explaining to break it up to chunk is just what I needed to hear. That’s for great years of lessons mate!
Excellent tutorial!! One of my all time favorite guitar solos. I haven't learned it yet, but watching your lesson I actually think I can! Before this lesson I thought learning this kind of solo was like learning differential equations. Difficult, but doable. Thanks so much.
3:15 Just wanted to point out, that there is an open E note that’s played on the 6th string, that essentially ends of that descending run. Just a minute detail that most whom play this solo often miss.😏
Yeah, just getting around to this classic. You move along just fast enough just for the medium speed player and don't waste time. Plus no stupid hat.
For some reason it just doesn't have the same effect
Add wah
AMS_Cult _ if you make sure the shape of your tone is more focused on treble and you have snap back delay, then it should sound good.
Nail it and play it in the backing track. Using a Tele always helps nothing like that unique tone
Can’t wait to learn this solo. Thanks dude
Had pieces of my calluses coming off on the strings when i was trying these bends
I've been looking for someone who does that crazy bend at 0:19. Everyone else wusses out and starts at a higher note and it really loses its impact that way. Well done.
Great stuff as always. Thanks Carl. Some questions if you have time: Are you using 007 gauge strings?? Or do you customize the set to your liking?? Ever use Fingerease to make the string action slippery and easier to bend?? Thanks and Best Wishes!!!!
This was legit
Didn’t realize how painful this solo was
Awesome. Love your tips at the video end to take it easy, break it down then piece it together. I watched the video slowly, methodically and wrote the 5 sections out (shorthand type tab), phrase by phrase which was helped by your concise, no rush, clear edit of the passages. Stitching them together from paper at my leisure helped with the coordination. Then to go back to the video for timing and precision. This is an excellent and inspiring lesson. Great solo choice too, many thanks.
4:25 and my B string is gone :}
5:11 and my E string is gone too :{{
My squier wasn’t made for this much stress and I keep pulling my guitar out of tune😭😭
I had a squier tele and always had tuning problems. get it setup at a guitar shop or one thing you can do that helps a little is when you change strings grab a led pencil and kinda get it in the grooves of the nut where the strings go. Dont do too much to where the led is in chunks. Blow off the excess and put the strings on and bam should help
Appreciate the free solo lesson man 🎸🕶
Extra light gauge coated strings 👍
How do you pull off from 12 to 17?!!!
(I know, I know. It's just a goof with words. BELIEVE me, I do it all the time! Just givin' ya a hard time, Carl!)
Thanks for the lesson.
3:19
How difficult is this
Billy Smith probably 4 or 5/10 if you’re an intermediate
Quoc Tran lol I’m definitely not I intermediate yet. Still a beginner so I’m thinking maybe to learn this in a few months
@@billysmith3513 all the best mate
Excellent job! This helped me learn the solo! I got it now! Thank you!
bend with the wrist. my finger tips where black and blue first time I learned this.
You weren't kidding about those bends! My fingers are raw!
Him at the beginning like "fuck who evers trying to lean this before any other part of the song"
Hi Carl, love your videos, but I was wondering what do you use as to amp wise and/or pedal use?
Hey Jesse, for all my current videos I used Fractal Audio Axe-FX II. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for that!
1:28
great lesson i learned the whole song in around half an hour
Awesome lesson, thanks :). Great solo
I want to learn how to play the solo and not how to learn to break my B string
Just a great video with great instructions right here
Definitely have to retune after this song ... for sure
I want to learn the solo and not to learn how to break my B string
Thanks Carl! A lot of cool blues licks wee learned in your academy's Blues Rock Bootcamp.
Hey Carl, I was wondering if you could do a tutorial for Who Are You by The Who?
Check out some live Page. his ring finger was apparently made for extreme bends
I just pray Carl to be on the top teachers...he's so under rated. And he does it for free. I just love this man
Once again thank you Carl.
To those complaining about these bends, go watch Carl's Sunshine of Your Love solo lesson.
Sound great. But I do want to see how others play this. 1:23 You play the 15th, 14th and 12th fret. Years ago, a friend showed me to do a bend at the 14th then let the string down and then play the 12th.
Good lesson well explained! If you want check out my cover!
Shit, I can play it along with you, like no problem, but then when I try to do it on my own I’m completely lost. 🤪
Carl is one of the best instructors on UA-cam. Probably the best.
4:30 saving spot
excellent
6:15 Huge arms!
Does someone have the version of the BBC the solo of whole lotta love is in that version complete different!
always loved this solo glad ive finally learned it
thanks, now imma just take another super slinky string
This was actually surprisingly easy to learn... Maybe it's because Carl donates his skill through the lessons
This solo would not be to hard, but my usually downtuned guitar with 12 gauge strings is killing me. I am almost not strong enough for the ultra 3 step bends at the end of the solo.
Gotta run 9's like me lol Easier for bends or beginners.
Sweet lesson my friend, finally got this!!! Thanks!
Sound boss :D
Killer man.. just sub'd. Thanks.
Pull Off 20 to 17, right?
Thanks 🙏
Was gonna try to learn on acoustic because I don’t have a electric guitar and I can’t reach the frets 😔
You can’t bend either
short and concise...love it 👍

Very clear lesson. Thank you.

Not too far off , he played this on a tele on the Recording
U d best.malaysia loves u.
Fantastic lesson, thanks man
Great tutorial. Like always
ouch those bends
Kinobody ?
Thanks Carl!
great lesson thank u :)
Good lesson thxs
plz upload the guitar lesson of paparoach's periscope song
Now all I need for it to sound good is the drums.
The bass is less important.
Thank's You !
Sir, can you please tell some information for choosing an electric guitar and an appropriate amp.
I am more into hard rock and heavy metal style of soloing. So what kind of aesthetics my electric guitar should have and what kind of amp should be appropriate?
Or a Special video on "Choosing an electric guitar and amp." would be great.
Thank you.
Try Ibanez for a guitar and blackstar for an amp
