If I'd seen your excellent Predator Engine Build video, might have taken a different route; built a Briggs using Performance V-Twin parts from Al Hodge, flew it for 120 hours but cast cam broke so reinforced the cam, sold it and moved on to a bigger liquid cooled ATV motor. What's impressive is the way you speed up the boring bits to keep it sharp and interesting, shows good video use for presenting tech matters. Couple of thoughts:- it is possible to mill out the weights from the flywheel leaving the ignition and generation magnets and a balance weight opposite, and sticking with the stock regulator, and is that just as light and simpler than going alloy flywheel and adding an alternator? Also I found the change to billet rods did change the engine crank balance, is it worth re-balancing the Predator afterwards? If your build gives 32hp it has big potential, as watching your work it's plain you use good techniques and skill, and there's a market for such a unit in the UK.

Nice install but but 4ga wire is a bit overkill if you already have it around cool but 8ga would be more than enough it has a continuous ratings 55A which for a 40A alternator is plenty

I’ve got the same basic set up but I’m using a harbor freight 212cc and an 84 Chevy alternator with a deep cycle battery and 1200w inverter all mounted to a little cart I built so I rarely have to pick it up. It’s been my handy little generator for about 3-4 years. I mostly use it to run power tools but the power went out a few times and I ran my fridge off of it. It could use a better inverter but it does the job.
How did you get the alternator to charge correctly? I have a 420cc predator on a hammerhead twister and I put a 1 wire alternator on it from a 9 inch pulley on motor shaft and 2.5 inch pulley on alternator and can't get but a couple volts to come off the alternator even at high rpms.
Do they make a kit for the 420cc predator.

Hopefully 40 amps will be enough for the lights and the electric power steering. Hopefully this whole thing will be done by the new year.

Almost 400 USD for a small alternator, a few chunks of machined aluminum and a few brackets.
I wonder how much they’re profiting on this, it has to be more than 50%. I feel grateful that I have a lathe and a mill. I can build my own.

Think this motor would spin a 370 amp single wire alternator? Just on a atand alone with the alt wide open.

According to Performance 670, it's a Kubota alternator, not a GM.
It may be cheaper going with Kabota but it’s a denso alternator for sure. I spent 2 days looking for that same thing for a customer. Small body alternator.
@@Ratkill9000 kubota does not make alternators. most japanese alternators are made by nippondenso and that is where kubota gets their alternators from.
I’ll put a coupler on the alternator and put it right on the crank

What alternator is it based on, like could you put a high output alt on? 40 amps is a bit low for some applications, like if you wanted a legit sound system on your 670 swap 40 amp wouldn't cut it lol. Guess it dont matter cuz with my job aint buying that anytime soon :/

Can you install this kit on a Honda GX340 and GX390 electric start gas motor... I'm installing a GX390 on a UTV to run LED lights , USB port , cigarette lighter , wench , windshield wipers and a radio while charging my battery... It would give me plenty of charging power to run everything , only if I can install on my gx390...

not really. you can put a better charge coil on them, but you're still going to be barely putting out any juice. they are really only meant to top off a small lawn tractor battery.
It may be possible to come up with something from the shaft side
You'd have to strip the stator from Kholer engine, can't quite remember which one. You'll need the flywheel and stator coils, plus a rectifier/regulator to convert from AC to DC and regulate it to 12-14 volts.

I am putting together a 670 for a swampfox 6×6. I bought the alternator kit but confused as to how much of factory shit gets eliminated. Specifically the " charge coil" little box mounted to case as well as the bindings beneath flywheel. I emailed the company with no response. Same when I requested a wiring diagram for factory predator 670. Any help will be greatly appreciated

what would you do with this alternator.charge your battery at home?
Soon as you rip off the stock flywheel and charging coils from the 670 to install a billet flywheel, you lose all ability to run lights, charge the battery and any other electronic accessories. This makes it so there no compromises.
I wonder if a 100a 12si alternator would work with the brackets.
It might. This alternator is a Kubota off like a V2203 di or idi. They might have a similar case size. But I'd call up Performance 670 and ask. Kind of surprised they did this and not a more common GM Delco 10si or 12si.
Sweet motor. Would look 110x better if the sheet metal and plastic stayed off of it. Any thoughts on fuel injection, and/or using a little aisin roots supercharger, a custom intake?
You need the plastic to direct the cooling air or it cooks...

So I understand the 4 gauge wire and the red small gauge wire to a switched hot. But did he say the yellow one goes to an alternator fault lock? What even is that and is it mandatory or optional?

I clicked the link for the alt kit, but it appears to be either out of stock or no longer available. But I have a questiom regarding alternators. I'm fully aware you modify your engines. I'm doing a repowering of a Gehl 2600 skid loader. Wouldn't the alternator rob horsepower? I have the room for a kit. But if it robs even 5 horsepower, it isn't feasible. Just a question.
Is a kit like this available for the Briggs 23hp twin?
Just go buy a GM one wire alternator from any major parts store. They stock them and are cheap. Brackets would be super simple to make from some flat stock and tubing.
@@FastBowtie388 still would need the stub shaft and pulley. Unless you pulled the engine off a mower, it's well over $100 to get the stub shaft from a dealer. An ACDelco Alternator runs about $60 or so for the 63amp version on Amazon. Then you'll need the 3" pulley with a 1" bore and keyed.

I'll make it simple without getting technical , the theory is simple.
When it's not in operation, but key on, the regulator side of the light is grounded internally , and the other side gets the b+
When it's running and charging , internally the regulator switches and puts b+ on the previously grounded wire.
Voila , b+ on both sides and the lamp is out.
Another thing too, if the lamp burns out it won't charge, but if this is a "1 wire" style alternator it would.
Can put performance parts on the motor and still keep the oil sensor for a kill switch for use on a mud motor application ?
