    Hey Taylor,
    There are two varieties of FCR; side draught and angled, looks like you’ve got the side draught ones which means they need to be mounted with the body vertical as opposed to on an angle like your CVs were meant to be, basically you’ll just need to look at the angle of the float bowl and see if that’s parallel to the ground when they’re mounted
    Additionally they definitely need to be balanced, you can hear them running unevenly, will make a big difference! I found a cheap and handy little airflow meter made for beetle carbs, you just put the snout of it up to the velocity stack and it’ll read out how much vacuum it’s pulling, then you just ensure they’re all pulling the same at idle
    Also it’s “Kay-Hin” hehe

    • @phil_dirt
      @phil_dirt Рік тому +1

      These look like the angled ones, look at 23:33 and you can see the slanted carbs.

    • @BADDTIMES
      @BADDTIMES Рік тому +1

      You can see actually that the angle of the line of the top of the float bowl is parallel to that of the carb body as well as the actual Venturi so im quite confident they’re side drafts

    Taylor, also - I don't know if anyone has said this - you may need to balance those carbs. There are plenty of cheap tools for this, and you basically measure the airflow at each carb and adjust individually. When I had a built 1.6 in my Miata with Toyota ITBs this was key to getting it running really well.

    The tip in hesitation is the accelerator pump timing being too early. It's a struggle with FCRs. I've been racing on these things for 25 years! The off throttle bog usually isnt a problem, until it is, on a jump face in my case 😳

    • @motoweenies4431

First set of new coils from BC racing, ditched the dizzy for Coil on plug, redid the fuel rail and lines to AN and regulator by deatch and found i had been running lean the whole time and eatting away my pistons. you can see the piston to wall clearance is bad lol. bought a lil harbor frieght welder to fix lil holes and rattles in the exhaust and just tacked painting it and with rattle cans( trust me it looks sweet) next im looking into doing my own interior work to give it a more premium look and feel like a bmw or something rather than a plastic rattle trap. Taylor,
    The fcr carbs have a vacuum plate on the front of the slide on each carb that closes when they're off throttle. Thats likely the whistle you're hearing when you blip the throttle. It's normal for every fcr I've ever had.
    As for the bog when you rap the throttle you can try bumping up a jet size, it usually helped mine but makes them a little harder staring when they're hot.

    The chirp is a vacuum leak. I'd guess boots first, but maybe a weld?
    Edit: spray some carb cleaner/starting fluid/brakekleen, and listen for it to idle up

    This video was all over the place in the best way possible. It's fun to go back to BMX. The intake noise is weird. It sounds like those horrible bird whistles with the water in them. It may be the cheap plastic air venturis making the noise. Once balance tune them, the carbs will sing.

    Dawn dish soap on the aluminum carbide tips…. Works as cutting fluid, doesn’t contaminate material like oil. 😊

    Fun fact - I work for the same company that makes those carburetors. We got bought out and are now Hitachi Astemo. We make ecu's for Honda. Keihin is into a lot of small automotive parts. FWIW we couldn't pronounce it correctly either. 😂

    the noise you hear is the firing of the engine trough the intake. thats a thing with flat slide carbs. after you sync them to each other it wil be less obvious. also a bigger velocity stack wil help with the bog.

    Pro tip for grinding carbide, spray some lube on it before you start jam tha alu, it wont get clogged and it cuts alot faster

    If'n you decide to give the carb manifold another go building a jig would maybe help. It would be pretty easy to layout your spacing on both sides or set the manifold up and build a cardboard template for the carb spacing and jig it up on your welding table. It sounds like a bit of work, but also the kind of project you enjoy and shine at. It would certainly match the over the top exhaust. Go big or go home, right?

    That bike setup looks sick! Where did you say you got it from?? I've still got a bunch of my old bikes and have been basically like you. Once I got old enough for my own cars, the bikes hit the back burner. Every once in awhile, I'd pick em back up and then drop it again. I've had the itch lately to get back into them. But I know I'm gonna be rusty and I'm sure my bikes will need some love. So maybe you'll post some bmx content and be some inspiration for people to get back into it after taking a break!
