Good video. I run a 15” front bar as well, 31” DL so like Josh said, my arrows stick out farther. I do mount my quiver upside down, the arrow point weight on the bottom helps reduce the amount of sidebar weight I need. Free experiment there if you have a quiver that works upside down.
i can tell you 1 thing for sure, since i started following this channel i have learned a tremendous amount of actual useful information. my confidence is far better and i now understand the how and why of my arrow flight. thanks eh! from New Brunswick Canada.
I like that you guys actually pull concepts from target archery and apply them in a hunting situation. Too many other bow hunting youtube channels have this attitude like what they are doing is completely different than target archery so they ignore the fundamentals. At the end of the day you are picking up a bot and hitting a target whether it be a deer or a piece of paper.
Thanks for the idea on the offset front stabilizer MFJJ! I love the idea of a back bar but my hunting set up was becoming bulky and heavy for hunting out west here. This is the perfect compromise for stabilization for hunting in my opinion.
Really like your setup Josh. Being a midwest whitetail hunter first, I hunt quiver off 90% of the season. Tinkered and found that a rear offset stabilizer worked the same as the offset front. Main perk to going with the rear bar instead is it allows me to grab that rear stabilizer to get my bow off the pack. Easy two handed operation to get to full draw in a fraction of the time.
The other videos I watched on this subject were useful too; but this one was clear and concise and answered what I was looking for. Helped make it easy setting up my first rear bar. I had a 10” all alone on the front before, now I’ve got a 14” with 2oz out front and that 10” with 6oz on the back. Levels easy and I’m confident it’ll be a score booster for 3d shoots. Hunting I may slim it back down since I l won’t be taking shots as long at live targets.
I bought the bow i shoot best of all the bows I have owned, 2016 Elite Synergy, from podium archery. Now following elk shape, I realize in hindsight who I bought from
Good information, as your typical Midwest whitetail guy fairly new to western hunting I’ve been seriously considering going with a longer stabilizer. I was familiar with the reasons for a longer front but the angled and back bar always confused me, thanks for clearing that up.
I get what you are saying about "people asking" for certain bows or popular bows in certain areas. Clapping back 😉 However, somebody has to pay for the millions of dollars Mathews, Hoyt, and so on spend on advertising. I shoot Darton 3800 and consistently out shoot Mathews and Hoyt guys. Never seen a Darton commercial on TV, but they have a great product. It is great and works for me. I did shoot it side by side to a Mathews when I got it (a few years ago) and just like you said at the end of this vlog, it works for me! Just saying! Love what you guys are doing and MFJJ is great. Appreciate all the knowledge and advice you guys are putting out. Thanks and good luck this season.
Solid information! Been thinking about eventually going with a 15in front bar. I'm running a 12in with 4oz up front and an 8in with 6oz in the back. Been a solid setup but always got to test things out.
This is perfect! Thanks for a great video. I got into Archery only about 6 months ago, but shoot a lot and really want to up my game. I'm shooting with a Diamond Edge 320 and really like the bow and whisker biscuit, but am looking to get a new sight/scope and balance the bow better. This could not have come at a better time. Thanks again!
I also have a diamond edge 320 and I have tested multiple stabilisers on it, and yes, it becomes more stable while none can beat the smoothness of the tiny included rod. What is that thing?
I really appreciate you guys. You guys convinced me to buy the hamskea trinity, and I just bought the Mathew’s static side bar. I am just reaching out to you guys for a quick question. Can you use a typical stabilizer on the back stabilizer?
I know I'm way late to this video lol but I've been paddling in bow hunting for a while just now getting serious about it trying to learn as much about setup and how it all works great video it definitely helped
Recently been learning as much as I can about stabilizers before buying some. Another well known archery content provider had a video explaining that stabilizers are used to cause more muscle recruitment to aid in shooting. You explain it as helping to balance your bow for faster pin on target resulting in less fatigue. Seems like two opposite ways of using them. Kinda confused as to what road to travel down. Any thoughts? Thanks I appreciate your content.
On my VXR28 I run the q-lite quiver and to compensate I have the static side bar and flatline 6", but I run the stabilizer to the front and not back as intended. Brings my rig to perfect balance. To be more specific, the static side bar is still mounted on the rear, so the stabilizer runs parallel to the riser.
Awesome video as always guys ! Sorry don’t want to be an oddball asking about things that aren’t specified in the video, but I was curious about the rests you run at the bottom of your limb to set the bow down. I’ve read that they slow the bow down and haven’t seen anyone use one in my area, was wondering what’s your experience with them ? I think they’ll be awesome in a ground blind and on the range but the speed issue I read on the forums kinda has me questioning. Thanks !
Because of your good information I know what to look out for when purchasing these stabilizers! this offset rod what brand is it? thanks in advance for the advice! If there are equally good shops in Europe with good technicians, I would buy a Mathews, but since this is not the case and most are just sellers, I will go for the Bowtech SS34 where I can tune myself when necessary.
Great video and really helpful with breaking down the different needs of different archers. Although, I disagree with the Martin slight in the beginning 🤣. Their new bows are actually really nice. More importantly though this video is going to give me some really good ideas on helping with my sight movement.
Hey guys, what is the front offset mount? I can't seem to find anything like that online. Great video, looking to change my setup to the front offset with 15inch podium stabilizer.
Does it make sense to build a simple stick that holds the bow by the grip, but loosely balancing on the stick, then adjusting stabilizers until the bow sits level on the grip?
Any sight suggestions for someone with a short draw length? Someone suggested a black gold rush sight. Would appreciate some different ones. I have a 25” draw length shooting a prima
Currently I don’t run any stabilizer. I’m looking at running just a back bar to off set the weight of the quiver to help with stability. Does anyone run a set up like that?
I know everyone has their own preferences but your area I thought Martin would be more popular... particularly the Adx series. The new realtree grey risers look dope to me Dig the channel. Keep up the quality content ✌
To be clear, if my bubble is on the right, I need to kick my stabilizer off to the left more correct? If that's the case, will adding an extra ounce also fix that problem without having to kick the stab left? Thanks in advance!
Me being a majority treestand and ground blind hunter, with a little spot and stalk elk and/or mule deer action every other year, what are your thoughts on the telescoping stabilizers? Worth it to be customizable to different archery scenarios or just find the right length and weight and stick with it?
I enjoyed using my telescopic stabilizer for that same reason.. I think it's a good option to TINKER with but you've got to find what works for you - TC
Have you guys ever had to change up your longtime go to hunting arrow to something else when getting a new bow? Or do you usually get the bow dialed in with your go to hunting arrow? Any help will help from anyone thanks!
Do y’all think 18 would be too long for spot and stalking? I’m a southeastern guy trying to get down from the tree stand a little and would like to set my bow up as such. Thanks in advance for any advice!
Great video. Really enjoy playing around with different stabilizer setups on my bows. You guys are truly the Mahomes and Hill of archery UA-cam. I won't say who is who, but Hill is the short one ;) Maybe Tim is Kelce? Keep up the good content.
Dan, when you going to come to the dark side and start shooting at spot targets? Off season training via target shooting will hone your skills for a hunting setup. Tell Mathews to send you a TRX 34 or 36 and start shooting some scores! Would be fun to see a shoot off with you guys in it.
Tim here ... I'm fixing to start shooting at more spot targets to mix up my variation. Dan definitely likes 3D but I'm fixing to try and get him to do a shoot off 😊
Noob here, I find the info you guys sharing extremely helpful and interesting. Would you happen to know anyone down in Florida you could recommend to me for purchasing and setting me up with a bow? Thanks.
I have to have extra weight on the end of my Axius Alpha because having a spothogg xl at full extension causes the bow to torque, any ideas to get around this?
What’s a good light weight sight I can put on my bow? I currently have the spot hog fast Eddie xl and I feel like it’s so heavy that it’s causing me to be inaccurate with my shots.
I've shot my bows with and without stabilizers. I really can't tell a difference. I shoot and hunt without a stabilizer. I hunt thick woods and only get at best a 40 yard shot.
I run a 15 inch front bar and a 10 inch back bar and people here in Tennessee freak out when they see what my setup is. It’s always you can’t hunt with that in a tree stand or you are gonna catch that on everything going through the woods. I have a buddy who shoots with no stabilizers and missed 3 massive WV bucks this last season. All because he couldn’t hold steady.
Good video. One of the better that I’ve seen regarding stabilization setup. I’ve been running a 10” (1 oz) front and 8”, 3 oz rear. When I switched to a lighter sight, I basically had to move the rear bar inward some. I don’t see a need to tweak from here, but my mind is open to whatever the process tells me.
Yo been shooting a Mathews triax the past few years.... you should really give the new PSE EVL a try it’s in my opinion substantially better than the Mathews!

Who makes the angled QD for the TAP stabs?! Thanks for all you guys do!
Would it be more beneficial to adjust the stabs while drawn to get a better aim /balance at the point its needed, before the shot
Do you find adding more backbar weight or swinging it out further away from the bow adds hand torque when shooting angled shots?

IMO the Victory RIP tko is one of the best arrows ever made. Love y’all’s set up! Hope one day to get a new Mathews.

Y’all touched on it but still curious about the benefits of the 10 degree vs a standard for your front bar
go back and watch it again like I did. the 10 degree down will take the figure 8 flot out while on target.
Can you go over tuning via cam lean on a new Elite bow with S.E.T. tech? and maybe compare it to Bowtech's dead lock tech?
