I'm beyond stoked, but we didn't actually realise what it was until weeks later because it's a lot smaller than a typical token! Haha, the war wasn't over, we had a rematch on a subsequent run 🤣🤙

We don't normally detect into the evening like that, but the weather was really hot that week so it was much more comfortable to do so! There's a part 2 coming for the location where we pretty much did the same thing. Cheers mate :)

Great to see your pretty face again from Connecticut, USA! Looks like the token was originally gold and was imitated often. I pulled this excerpt from online: This piece is an imitation of a Venetian zecchino (sequin) by London merchants in the 19th century to trade with colonized Africa. Similar parts with abstract representations of Christ, the Doge and St. Lawrence, but in gold, are known in India. In the eastern Mediterranean, the Venetian sequins have long been the means of payment and have been imitated many times. So cool!

Mish, What's with the corset fasteners? Were the goldfields occupied by families, or did the miners have camp followers (prostitues) that may have dropped the fasteners. Pun intended. 🤣
What little we knew about the region in question would suggest that, for whatever reason, this particular area was very female-dominant. There were also many parasol components and the like. So either reason you mentioned could be valid here :) Cheers!
