I've had this machine for a while now and and I'm extremely satisfied with it. You learn to know what you have under your coil with just the audio ( Minelab's audio is just that good). A few tips: 1. This is a detector where you want to have you iron sound ON, at least to where you can hear it and not be annoying, it helps you a lot in identifying the targets, as follows: 2. On bottlecaps, the old trick, if you swing just on the edge of the object, it will give you a solid iron tone, and give a high but short tone right over it. This is almost always a bottlecap, but it could also be a big ol' coin among iron, in iron infested areas. 3. When you pin-point, if you press the pin-pointer button a second time really close to the target it can determine quite precisely the object size based on the long or short tone when you pass over the object again (very similar to the sizing function of the old X-terra 705). Helps you a lot with eliminating big can slaw/trash or large aluminium foil. I got pretty good at this, now I can usually identify even a bullet casing or similar longer shape objects versus a round object because it sounds a bit longer if I turn 90 degrees. 4. In salt water, 18-19 sensitivity should take much of the chatter away while still keeping a good detection depth. It is worse with all that chatter, you lose focus to small signals, you miss signals among the chaos and its also tiring. 5. On land, the ground tracking will negate the phantom signals better. If you pass a couple of times over a signal with ground tracking on and it disappears/goes into the negatives, you know it was a bad/phantom signal. If it keeps repeating, even if it sounds choppy, it is usually a conductive target. This is very useful in iron infested areas. 6. When you have a feint signal and don't know if its a deep coin or a small object close to the surface, even after the pin point trick, switch to lower frequencies and compare. If it sounds way worse or goes away, its a tiny thing and you don't have to struggle to dig a big hole for nothing. 7. If the object is in the plug when you dig it out, it can sometimes be masked and sound like iron, especially if it's a tiny low conductor. Just quickly use pin pointer function on the plug and on the hole to see where it sound closer. That's all I can think of now, hopefully this helps some newer X-terra users. I've found coin sized objects at 10 inches deep at least, and small fingernail size conductive objects at 4-6 inches deep (even dug shotgun shell pellets, that was a pain to find). I've dunked it in water, dropped it on the ground and still no issues, works like a charm. So yeah, for the price it is truly unbeatable, I'm super happy with it 👍
Yeah Merrill he pretty much covered it here. Only thing I would say is at my beach 18-19 in the water would be too chatty for 99 percent of people but 16 is good and he is 100 percent right this machine is a tones machine and not a VDI machine you can reference numbers to a point but the tones are insane in either full or Depth tones. Mode
@@MetalDetectingNYCIf Merrill would just lower the Sensitivity down below 20 Sensitivity and the X-Terra Pro is that great with the Lower Sensitivity and the X-Terra Pro is telling him about the target and then is he actually listening to the X-Terra Pro Tone's and The Full Sensitivity Isn't Necessary to get the targets.....
The new Xterra Elite which the Triple Score competes with seems to realy up the capability specs for a decent value. The Xterra Pro and even the Double Score had price drops really making them attractive.
Picked up an xterra-pro in june. Used it today in our club hunt, found $172.50 worth of silver at the hunt. I have Deus 2, 800, 600, F75, etc., etc., etc. 42 detectors in my collection thus far. This machine has paid for itself over the last three months in silver finds value easily, and the year isn't over yet! For the money, it's a beast of a machine!
Amigo buenas noches acabo de comprar mi X-TERRA PRO espero me apuedas ayudar para aprender a operarlo de la mejor manera gracias saludos desde Colombia
Placed an order for 2 X-Terra Pro today after watching a couple of your videos on it. My grandpa mentioned that he may want to start hunting some as well, so for the price, I went ahead and bought him one for a gift. Thanks for the great content. As someone that’s just getting started, they have been extremely helpful.
Once you get them, keep the sensitivity down below 20 and Not on the Full Sensitivity and the X-Terra Pro will give you more information about the target and I have started with 12 Sensitivity and I have worked my way up to 18 Sensitivity Now and it's a Coin Shooters Dream Detector that when I get to a Jumpy VDI it's going to be a Junk Or a Relic Target And not a Coin but Full Sensitivity is not even Necessary with the X-Terra Pro and I was still getting Targets that are in the 6-8 inches deep with 12 Sensitivity and I'm still amazed about what I can do and change the Tone's and the tone break and I'm a New Minelab Detector Owner and I NOW have 2 Minelabs Detector's and I have traded the Simplex + for a Equinox 600 and it's totally different than what I'm use to using but when it rains it pours and I ❤️them Both and the New Knowledge that It is giving me and I'm not digging up ALOT of target's that sounds great but then it's a JUNK TARGET and I also have on the Horseshoe Button and that is a New Wealth of Knowledge that the Other Simple Detector's Doesn't Have Or anything else like it and just lower the Sensitivity down below 20 and let the detector tell you about the target and I have since raised the Sensitivity up to 18 and WoW and I'm still amazed about the Settings that I have and that I can Change just from the X-Terra Pro ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.
great video!! Upstate NY here.. Have had the xterra pro for 2 weeks now and its nuts! having a ball finding lots of goodies, including lead musket balls, big fishing sinkers, coins and all kindas of junk with it! I went with the smaller 5x8 coil,, Big difference in the trashy parts around Troy Ny Hudson river shores... the trick to stabilize the vdi that worked for me is slow swing , alot lower sensitivity.. around 15 and using 5 khz more in the trashy parks,, big change! numbers are more stable
Just got back from Destin Florida, was detecting dry and wet sand and out to about three feet of water was using my X-terra pro. Not much treasure, the usual bling and a whole lot of trash. The point is I was competing against a bunch of detectorists who were out in front of me with several different types of machines and when we got to the turnaround point they could not believe the amount of just stuff I had dug up with this inexpensive machine, it just proved expensive does not mean more fun. Heading to Georgia’s islands next
I enjoy the comparison videos quite a bit. In the test areas I use I use colored golf tees to mark different signals. Then go over the same spots with another detector to see what I found and missed with each. Keep up the good work.
I forgot to thank you for doing this awesome comparison, so thanks :) I use them both depending on my mood plus to make sure I keep learning how they both work.
I posted a video of me on. The beach with it, NO CHATTER on myrtle beach, it was quite. 19 or 20 sensitivity, recovery speed 3, and noise cancel. It performed better than my EQUINOX
hands down best detecting channel on YT. Thank you for all the information brother, i recently purchased the x-terra pro and for the price and its capabilities i think i made the right decision for a good starter detector, i dont dectect on the beach very often i like fields and yards but this video helped me out a lot thank you for all you do
I just bought the x-Terra pro Im a beginner at this but you're information is very Good and understanding all ways watching ill probably stay with the X- Terra for a long while and get to know it !
I had just purchased the xterra pro and your video was on point but My settings are a bit different for the beach and I find it better than my simplex for now waiting for your next video thanks for this video
Just ordered one is it really good for near were the waves crash? I’ve had machines that are sensitive to the minerals and salt and beep constantly am I gonna have issues?
Thanks for doing this video. For no more than I hunt, I wouldn't think of buying a Manticore anyway, but I love that Minelab has given us a reasonably priced AND waterproof AND decent detector in the X=Terra Pro. I don't love how chirpy it is, but like you said, that could be settings.
And he is running the full sensitivity and it's not a Necessary with the X-Terra Pro and I have mine at 12 Sensitivity and the little bit of chirping now is Handy for the junk signal Targets and the coin's are solid Tone Targets and the X-Terra Pro is really good about telling me about the target and Merrill is very much new to this X-Terra Pro and I don't know everything about it either but it's way too High on the Sensitivity.... and I have found a target and then I would lower the Sensitivity down until the X doesn't hear it and then raise the sensitivity back up until it does and I have mine set at 12 Sensitivity and that's what has been working for me and All Metal Mode is a plus and a 1 Button Push to get to it And the Simplex + is a 5 button push and on the New Simplex Lineup " ultra" 6 button push from Field 1 and probably a Single Tone like the Simplex + Was and I still Had to dig it out just to carry around more Iron Quarter's Tone Targets and the X-Terra Pro is a totally great Detector and I don't have to dig up everything and it will let me know when I need to dig.....❤.....
Well that’s good news I just bought one I live in Cutler Bay Florida Miami so lots of beaches east and west that’s what I bought it for cause it’s water proof thanks for the test
I'm actually purchasing a manticore today after waiting and listening to users thoughts on the machine I'm fortunate to know some very knowledgeable people in the detecting business over here and honest opinions are invaluable in my opinion. Your video has tried to be as thorough as possible at covering the two machines and hopefully you'll be able to do some more comparisons with your buddies in tow, keep up the good work!.
Metal detectors historically have been a one time purchase. You buy a good one and then don’t really ever need a new machine unless yours breaks. Detecting companies have found a way around that to create repeat customers out of what would have been one and done customers. Sell them hype. While there have been some improvements over the years(iron separation comes to mind) I’m not sure they justify the expense. Good tones, durability and proximal audio are my requirements..
Tienes razón yo tuve un Fisher 1280 desde los años 90s y lo vendí recién hace 4 años. He con prado varios baratos de diferentes marcas pero con o q no termino de convencerme .
Unfair comparison tbh, you can walk up and down the same area several times and not find everything in one go. So if one machine finds something the other didn’t it doesn’t mean it couldn’t find it, just you missed it first time, and vice versa.
@@Sapper094 Ehh, perspective bud. When I say historically I am talking about more than 25 years ago when I started detecting. There weren’t even sort of the options available there are today, there wasn’t advertising the way there is today, there wasn’t online buying. There was some guy who you knew, who knew a guy who was a dealer, or you found a magazine at a bookstore that had an advertisement , etc. Rushed out and bought it 😂….You are fooling yourself, that wasn’t a thing. Beyond that, people kept and used their machines for years and most became so staunchly set on their machines, so brand loyal, they wouldn’t even try a new one or a different company. Just for a little more perspective, I have been sponsored by several metal detecting companies, worked with the biggest distributor of detectors in the world, had dozens of machines sent to me for free, written articles for nearly every US detecting publication, done radio interviews, have relics published in reference books and am actually in the process of writing one myself currently. Im not just speaking idly when I say historically, machines were basically a one time purchase, with maybe a few upgrades for the average consumer. As I stated above, while there are some instances where there have been great advancements over the years that warrant a new purchase, and the hype(i.e. pulse machines, pin pointers, multi freq, waterproof machines etc.) most of the “new tech” has just been a repackaging and marketing of the same tech in an effort to drum up sales with hype.
Yea I have the 800 and XTerra . The XTerra is great on the beaches. The only thing is the ID num on Xterra is really jumpy but I dig it all on the beach. I'm going to be testing it in the woods here soon. Under 300 you can't beat it. I run mine on dp tones at the beach
I'm preparing myself to freedive with Nokta Pulsedive next week. It makes sense that more stuff is being lost while swimming - in the water. It's actually bizzare how much of good stuff you can find on the shore
Hey merrill, good vid bud, i notice in both detector comparisons you're walking too quick for your swing speed.. you aren't overlapping your swing sweeps properly so theres a lot of beach you're missing.. easy to do. Side by side target response and settings of each machine would help show what each machine is seeing or not seeing. 👍🍻
Have you seen Joe Diggers videos in St Augustine FL. Joe was running the Nox 800 and switched to the Xterra Pro and is finding more jewelry and rings. I watched your vids on the disc pattern on the Manticore not going into the neg like the Xterra Pro and how small gold and jewelry falls in this section. I’ve got a Manticore after using the DFX since ‘09 and I like how the vdi goes from -99-+99. I was in St Augustine in the spring for a month and never found a ring. Was at the same beach as Joe and met him several times. Had to wonder what I was doing wrong. Five-six aluminum and steel tent deep tent spikes at 14-18 inches. Every time I thought it could be a deep large ring. I dug everything. Joe and some other guys I met in Jacksonville detect in all metal and I tried it but just too noisy.
With the tide going down the area is expanding. Better to mark out a fixed box in the sand. Single frequency detectors suffer from poor TIDs at depth, also signals are less solid at depth. However most finds come up within the range of most good detectors. I found The NOXs, CTX 3030, and Manticore go deep. Probably 2 inches deeper on most of the difficult land than the Deus 1 and 2.👍
You got a video from a couple months back that didnt age well... i have a legend and an xterra. I am really starting to suspect my legends capabilities on the beach for deeper mid tones. Especially when hunting South Jersey beaches when they are low. Almost like targets are getting lost in all the clutter. Been watching you for a few years and you have kept my passion alive. Thanks for what you do!
Better IF you could buy a battery for the x-Terra Pro. I sent Minelab a email on Nov. 16th asking about a battery and their response was they don't sell them or even supply them to a dealer, but if I was having a problem, it would be covered under the 3 year warranty. I was ready to buy the detector but if you can't get a battery for it after the warranty runs out I have to reconsider. I don't want to have a dead detector after 3 years! I always like to have a backup battery as well.😊
A battery is a battery. They are all made from specific size cells you can easily build yourself or have someone do it for you. Depending on how far in the future its needed you can easily upgrade battery.
Well that's a deal breaker. Why are they using a specialized battery? I thought all metal detectors used 9v batteries. Some use two 9v. Some use one 9v. Interesting. Sounds like a scam to me.
@@andrewscotti1136 How is a battery a battery? Can you explain how to build that kind of battery? I'm not paying boo koo bucks for a specialized battery every time it goes dead when I can get a detector that uses regular batteries like a 9v. Better yet. 9v rechargeable. Not all of us are electricians like you. But if you can explain how to build one, please do.
@@zaksmith4523 most battery powered devices today are using 18650 batteries. They are in vapes, scooters, bikes, ev's, portable radios ect. You buy the cells and build the batteries by joining however many 18650s together to get the desired volts and amps. That being said if you dont know how to do it look it up or have someone else build it because if you do it it wrong it will catch on fire. Plenty of youtube vids to help you thru the process.
Merrell I think your first impressions of the Xterra pro on the beach are going to hold up long-term the more you use it. Yeah the vdi can be all over the place sometimes, but a lot of the time what it's telling you is that it's junk and to move on. I have the xtp and the new ultra. Which one do I use on the beach? The Xterra pro. Don't get me wrong the ultra works fine on the beach but the Xterra pro is very sensitive to jewelry in the park 2 and Beach 1 modes like the equinox is. I use park 2 in the dry sand
And beach 1 in the wet with sensitivity around 21 or 22. The thing I like about the Xterra pro is when you raise the coil on those probable bottle cap VDi numbers and it drops eight or more it's a bottle cap. The ultra doesn't do this as well and you will be fooled a lot more with those bottle caps. Saves a lot of time as it's right 99% of the time.
Thank you! Teacher of 23 years! That is pretty darn close to dead inside. But I admit for the sake of what I was trying to prove having a non gridding swing might raise questions (for this test)
Two things.. it would do better to lower the sensitivity in the salt water, as you mentioned.. and also.. if you put it in all metal a bottle cap will give an iron grunt on the tip of the coil.. give it a try..
I'm a tone only hunter ( Fisher CZ) . Had a whites with VDI. But found myself swing over and over and over trying to figure out the numbers instead of just digging it !
Merrill what sensitivity are you running on your X-Terra Pro? (this and newer videos) Is all ocean sand the same in NY to CA? Reason I ask is some say 20 is max but I know it can go higher especially if its not in totally wet sand like a wave just rolled in and back down and it not chattering. 21 or 22? Thanks I'm getting ready to do some beach detecting in March 2024 for 5 days at an RV park in Carlsbad CA.
So you agree, the Target Id is so far off on the Xterra Pro that it makes detecting once again dig all leave nothing(Guess on what it is)? I am sure once they fix it if it is possible for them to the Xterra Pro would be a killer of a detector for the price range. I am still trying to get use to the 700. I sold my Xterra Pro because of the Vdi and Bottle caps Ring up pretty much on any tones.. Lol I might have been quick to jump on not liking the Xterra Pro but either way I just was not a fan of this one detector.. Thanks for your videos. Keep up the fun keep it real.. Peace
But you Dig everything anyway ohh Danny Boy and If it's a Jumpy VDI and I don't have to dig it up but I do when I get a Coin Numbers and I also have the Horseshoe Button on and that also helps with the discrimination and you should of just waited but I ground balance and don't use the Factory Settings and because I'm not at the Factory trying to figure out what it is seeing in the ground and the MORE I get to know what the X-Terra Pro is Capable of telling me about the target and I'm still amazed about the X-Terra Pro ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤........ Edit And there's some hidden features that nobody is currently changing on the X-Terra Pro that would help with the Targets and the So Called Experts that have been showing that the X-Terra Pro and versus and show the X-Terra Pro Setup but they have bypass the X-Terra Pro hidden features settings that is in the X-Terra Pro.....
I think you should to the same test perimeters with some ancient 80.s machine and the manticore afterwards. I wouldn't be surprised the old machine would clean up as well.
Eventually I will do that. I think that the big difference with modern machines is separation. I showed the Safari in a recent video on a line of coins. Everything was merged. The XTerra Pro is a lower priced machine than what the Safari was but it has the modern processing magic compared to my beloved clunky old Safari.
Safari is not old. Find a Garrett GTA if you want a digital screen or even better an old analog White's, Fisher or C-scoope. Beaches are not like NY parks. That English guy's learning channel who use Deus, he raffles old clunkers away.@@MetalDetectingNYC
New Simplex vs XTerra Pro would be an interesting comparison.. Thanks for doing these Merrill and I hope your school year is starting off smooth for you!
@@MetalDetectingNYCYour Sensitivity is totally to high for the X-Terra Pro and lower it between 12 and 20 Sensitivity and it will do a Better job than the Jumpy VDI and Jumpy Tone's that you are experiencing now....
First, this was an extremely informative (and entertaining) video. I’m excited to see more comparisons. I ‘drive’ the NOX 800 after years of using an X-Terra, but my husband refuses to give up my old X-Terra or even try my NOX. I’m seriously thinking of getting him an X-Terra PRO so he can progress as a detectorist. If he doesn’t like it, I’ll just keep it for non-detecting friends to use. About your test: The difference between your test and what I prefer is merely sampling in a different way, but I would very much liked to have you swing one then the other over the same targets and hear how they sounded before digging. Going over the same area but not the same actual ground with one then the other potentially randomizes the process to the point where you could be comparing apples and oranges. Of course in order to haul around two detectors you would need a Sherpa. I’d volunteer to schlep your equipment for you, but I’m in California and my personal jet is in the shop for repairs.
Thank you 🙏, I was about to buy X terra pro from Facebook marketplace for $200 😅but seeing your post makes me rethink my Actions I’m sticking to my Old metal detector White Prizm 3 🤣 That old detector finds more coins 🪙 and some rings than that expensive metal detector I don’t look at the display, I hear the sound more clearly But yay thank you very much
I just bought an ex Terra pro off amazon 12 months payments interest for 420 after taxes comes with a minelab pinpointer and carry bag. I was gonna buy an equinox or legend instead but honestly dollar for dollar this machine seems to be a great bargain buy.
I too purchased a xterra pro. Paid $194 new for it. First outing salt water long island sound. I found on the wet sand it was spotty at best. underwater was un-useable. Second outing was at a dirt permission. Found a few deep targets. Not bad in the dirt. What you would expect from a single frequency machine.
@@rickvann3489 Good day! Where did the opinion come from that in the “beach” mode the xterra works like a multi-frequency??? I've read something like this more than once. What is this opinion based on? Or is this just another legend? I apologize in advance for the Google translation))
@Atrogate it shows it on a sheet shipped with the unit and a few on NASA TOM forum have figured it out. Show running like the CTX frequency wise. 8Khz on the beach doesn't perform that good so why does the X-Terra Pro perform stellar when used on the beach. They believe that Minelab snuck that in there and called it 8Khz at worst it is using the frequency that listed on machine simultaneously but the print out shows 2.5 Khz to 143 Khz
But the X-Terra Pro Sensitivity is totally to high and Full Sensitivity without any kind of ground Feedback and that's why the Jumpy VDI and Jumpy Tone's are happening so And he was to lower the Sensitivity down and I have mine set at 12 Sensitivity and I don't have the Just Jumpy VDI on my X-Terra Pro.... until I get to a Junk Target....
One of the spots I search twice a week has a tiny ocean entry point for swimmers. Flanked by sharp lava rocks and sandy only out about twenty feet. Seriously no bigger than a back yard swimming pool. I found an old beaver tail pull tab there last week. Been searching this spot for a year with an Excalibur2. You can never find it all.
And then look at the junk Targets Ratio to the good Targets and see what adds up first and I was using the Simplex + and my trash Targets Ratio favored the junk Targets in the 4 years that I was using the Simplex and now that I have the X-Terra Pro it's been more coin's and I did Dig up alot of junk Targets just to get the idea of what the numbers are and how the X-Terra Pro is telling me about the target and where it was putting it on the VDI Scale and the Simplex is only using 3 Tone's of High Medium and Low Tone and everything is mulled together and it's not like that with the X-Terra Pro and the next time you get some rocks like that you may have some meteorites, but Merrill has the X-Terra Pro at the Max Sensitivity and that's why the Jumpy VDI is happening and getting Ground Feedback... and it's not Necessary to be at Full Sensitivity using the X-Terra Pro and Even when I was using the Simplex it could only handle 3 bars showing Sensitivity in my Area and it's going Crazy 😧😧😧😧...
As a person who has never done this, doesn't own a detector but is thinking about the X Terra, the numbers mean nothing to me, the tones mean it found something, and regardless of numbers or tones I would be digging it up. Pretty sure the experienced peeps would as well, right?
I have a 2008 Jeep Patriot 4cyl. manual shift 5 speed. Do you have any issues with loud creaking sounds coming from the underside of your Jeep? Btw, I’m totally hooked on your videos! 🤓 Also i am so thankful to see another human that goes around barefoot at home!! My husband picks on me about it! I tell him every time it’s how i keep myself grounded and sane!!! 😂😊
Great minds Jeep alike! Yes I get it from the brakes. Not terribly loud but when I mildly put my foot on the brakes I can hear it. Barefoot is the way to go!!!
Great job brother, really enjoying getting to know you. Cowboy Joe 35 years searching Florida ...Gold Fever is deep in the blood. Xtera & 900 & Sea Hunter
That earing is quite small and deep for a single frequency machine on a salt water beach. When your searching a jewelry you know that it's not going to ID solid and could be all over the place depending on the depth and/or how it's laying. If a target goes away after you get it up the experienced knows this could be small and turning on edge. It could be a broken ring or a chain.
I have a buydd who owns one of these up here in Canada. He's confirmed the ID sucks but if you reduce the sensitivity down quite a bit it's much better and still gives ok depth. Not so great for hunting deep silver but..........for the money you can get it done.
You should take a sample of sand and salt water home in a large container with a lid, bury a quarter in it, take the lid off once every couple of days to ensure the oxygen isn't getting used up by bacteria and oxidation of the coin, and see how long it takes for a quarter to turn green. I now this is not a definitive test due to no wave action, but it would still be interesting to get a ballpark figure out of it.
You want 15 sensitivity in water it you want complete quiet I run 16 so it’s just slightly hot , the Corona caps hit good on the 600 but on my Xterra it has a louder clipping beep at the end of the tone I didn’t hear on yours maybe it’s the speakers limitation . In the wet sand you can run 19-20 no prob you running zero GB on beach two in wet or beach 1 that will also make it a bit more chatty
And I run it At 12 Sensitivity but I Don't have any Sand to test and I also have on the horseshoe Button on and I get the clips and the iron grunts and I think the Equinox 900 is it's Bigger Brother and I'm amazed at what the X-Terra Pro is able to tell me about what is in the ground and before I had to dig up everything just to find out that it's a JUNK Target And Simplex + Was the DETECTOR and it's now on the Discontinued Detector List 😂.....
I was shocked to see the xterra’s underwater capability too, looks a nice machine, but I’m sure if it was worth £1800 then minelab would be charging for it.
Hey bud, been out getting into beach hunting with my manticore. It’s not my forte I’m usually on solid ground. Which is your favorite setting and do you have a video of the ring program you set up.? I did well yesterday and found a 9 g 18 karat gold ring. But I’m getting a ton of 38 that our pull tabs, do you discriminate anything out off of beach General or do you have a customer program?
The X-Terra is a Cool Little Machine--it Detects Very Deep Targets. Silver Coins I Do a 5 Freq All Around Detecting - 10 Gold Jewelry & Small targets 15. Good Little Machine for the Price.
Interesting experiment. I'm not surprised the Legend works well on the beach. Whether single or multi freq, if the machine can handle salt / black sand, it will find treasure. I would be interested in a different comparison approach where you mark a signal from one dectector and check with the other detector - you know the drill. Suggest dropping sensitivity on both machines to eliminate some ghost signals. Glad youre ok - wondered what happened to you fir the live stream especially with the wonky pic Stay safe!
always entertaining and always value.... tempted for the Manticore, you don't believe in target ID anyway...lol. I will keep pounding the beach with my Nox 800 for now.... thank you Merrill! Nox goes to Thailand now for the "winter" . Excited as the sand level has gone down here in Ao Nang....
I own a Minelab Vanquish 540. A quarter is a 30. A dime is a 25. A nickel is a 13. A penny ranges from a 20 to a 25 (depending on the year) These targets are accurate on the VDI, every time! So, I've been spoiled by a solid reading on coins. I would be willing to purchase the XTerra Pro at that price, but will be difficult for me not to swing my Vanquish...
Another very good informative video,I think that the new Xterra is better than the old 705 that used for many years, but them the manticore had a better target id,Merrill keep the info coming we need that kind of schooling on these new machines ,I am now using the deus 2 lite, but I am like you stick with what ever works, happy hunting my friend from down south.
The sad reality is that this machine and the simplex showed the world that detector companies have been gouging people for 20 years. There's not $1,500 more in technology built into the Manticore. There's only a few more things added into the circuit boards and the touch pad. They have different housing styles , But once the mould is made they housing can't cost much different from one model to another. Before 2,000 the best detectors of the day weren't jacked up sky high. Minelab started these high end high priced detectors along with Whites on their DFX. After that other companies just took advantage of the easy high market profits. It wasnt until Notka Makro started to sell top end detectors for a fraction of the rest of the market that caused Minelab to produce the X-Terra. They can't respond back like that with the Legends price/performance abilities. Well they could but they won't because the Nox created such a loyal base that Minelab can continue to take advantage of loyal following. Unfortunately I doubt things will change until millions of people are out there producing with the Legend and sales of the Nox series shrinks then suddenly they will find a way to sell them for less money.
Actually, I'm glad this wasn't a live stream. I just can't sit through that kind of snooze video. Thanks for taking the time to edit this and make it a palatable little morsel, well done!
Love watching comparison videos and especially when yourself make them, so I think you need to run both machines at same time and that way you will clearly here the difference. Can you please do the same video with both the Manticore and X-Terra pro, Nokta Legend and simplex latest and not fogeting XP D2 over same target if your getting friends together, it would would be a great and interesting beach video, pretty please 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
It looked like it was on the Fullest sensitivity that it has and it is not even Necessary to be at Full Sensitivity without any kind of ground Feedback and I have mine set at 12 Sensitivity and I don't have the Crackling on it....
X-Terra Pro Anytime after I was using the Simplex + for 4 years and I have the X-Terra Pro now it's 2 Different Detector's.... and Merrill just needs to learn from the X-Terra Pro and lower the Sensitivity down and Not any kind of detector Ever Made Today can really stand for the Full Sensitivity without any kind of ground Feedback and that's why the Jumpy VDI is Happening in the video....
I also found what I belive to be a clip on earring, but the 925 stamp is barely there if at all, I posted it online and people thought it was a swastika hallmark lol, it dosnt stick to a magnet though, I should swipe over it I forget what it rang up as
@@mavrick4646 WHAT 🤔 ??? I'M not talking about the Auto Ground Balance and do you have it close enough to you to turn it on and go to the Accept and Reject function and then You hold it down the Cog ⚙️ Button and it's going to change to the e1 ... and I have played with some stuff to help with identify the targets....
And that's The Iron Tone Break's if I have read it right and also on the Volume Settings there's another Hidden Setting And I think that's the Iron Volume Setting And Yes the X-Terra Pro is a Totally Tremendous Detector that I don't think that I will have to go ahead and get another Detector for a few years and it's going great for me and I Only Coin Shoot with it and it will find the Coin Targets and it's a Coin Shooters Dream Detector and I'm not Diggin up ALOT of Relics if I don't want to and I don't with it....
I’m heading to my area Saturday for hurricane Lee goodies if you want to do an experiment with Manticore or Xterra with the Legend meet me over there so we can compare targets live
Hey Merrill, can't wait for you to test the Simplex Ultra. How it compares with X Terra. I'm thinking about getting it for times my wife or kids/grandkids want to join me.
I dont know if it is just me.. but I found watching this that the all over the place constant beeps and blips on the X terra rather annoying! I think I would get annoyed with the constant confusion? Is this a total different machine on the pasture land?
You can literally sweep a Whites DFX in and out of salt water and it will automatically balance to the water and then to the land as you sweep. Why would I buy any detector that was only good for either dry land or salt water but not both?
Thanks for the video Merrill! Does it find metal? Yes. The end of its talents I think. I don’t even like watching people detect with it. 😐 Just my opinion.
I’m just thinking in terms of value. That was a tiny sample size. For me it is of interest because it goes against what Minelab stated (smf moving forwards). On land it is really interesting.
I have owned a Bounty Hunter Discovery 3300 for several years it's a good for relic hunting but since I watched your videos on the Manticore and other detectors I purchased the Manticore any tips for using in the mountains, thanks
Great to have comparison videos like one. One comment made was about phantom signals. I get those on the Nox 600 and they are perplexing to me. Any recommended actions or advice to address those type of signals? My sensitivity is usually set between 18-21. Thanks for all informative videos.
Lower the Sensitivity even more and it's more of a Site Dependent Detector and what is working for one site May not work on another place and do make sure to Noise Cancel and Ground Balance it and if the Phantom Signal is still there then check the coil connector and also take your Coil Cover off and then clean the coil and get the Dirt out and that's possibly why your getting the Phantom Targets and the Coil cover is going to be a little hard to get off but it will come Off and I have shaking it and watching the Dirt come out and alot of people don't know to do that and it will help....

Hello, I want to get an X trapro device. Is it a good device?
I've had this machine for a while now and and I'm extremely satisfied with it. You learn to know what you have under your coil with just the audio ( Minelab's audio is just that good). A few tips:
1. This is a detector where you want to have you iron sound ON, at least to where you can hear it and not be annoying, it helps you a lot in identifying the targets, as follows:
So yeah, for the price it is truly unbeatable, I'm super happy with it 👍
Thank you for the in depth advice.

For the money, it's a beast of a machine!
try that in the wild maybe a pull tab
Hello
What is the deepest VLF detector u have on large targets?
42 detectors? You're my hero, dude.
Amigo buenas noches acabo de comprar mi X-TERRA PRO espero me apuedas ayudar para aprender a operarlo de la mejor manera gracias saludos desde Colombia
42 Detectors - that’s the first step to healing, admitting you have a problem….*lol*
Thanks for helping to re-new my interest in metal detecting.
Honored!
Awesome
I own the manticore and my wife has the Xterra Pro, we hunt the beach quite often. they both perform quite well
I feel the same way. I’m posting this commentZ
great video!!
Settings? You put the head under water??
I enjoy the comparison videos quite a bit. In the test areas I use I use colored golf tees to mark different signals. Then go over the same spots with another detector to see what I found and missed with each. Keep up the good work.
I love both my Manticore and the X-terra Pro on the beach. I use the X-terra Pro with the 15-inch DD coil and it's great.
Very nice! That says a lot that you use it with a Manticore in the inventory.
I forgot to thank you for doing this awesome comparison, so thanks :) I use them both depending on my mood plus to make sure I keep learning how they both work.

For underwater, the X-Terra behaves better with lower sensitivity (18 or lower) and Beach Mode 2.
I posted a video of me on. The beach with it, NO CHATTER on myrtle beach, it was quite. 19 or 20 sensitivity, recovery speed 3, and noise cancel. It performed better than my EQUINOX
Unbelievable!!!! I have heard anecdotes like that!
hands down best detecting channel on YT.
Thank you!
Ive been using my X terra alot more lately and I definitely think it's hanging with the big boys!! Surprising on a Saltwater beach though!!
Try the 6 or 11" Equinox coil on the XTP. Its been working a lot better than the stock coil signals
Wow! Interesting
X terra pro is a great machine for dry and wet sand on the beach, use mine daily here in Florida, great machine for the price, fireman Jim
I been there Myrtle help me pick minelab nox600
One time purchase historically? Utter nonsense, most detectorists upgrade as soon as anything new comes out. You couldn’t be more wrong 😂
Just for a little more perspective, I have been sponsored by several metal detecting companies, worked with the biggest distributor of detectors in the world, had dozens of machines sent to me for free, written articles for nearly every US detecting publication, done radio interviews, have relics published in
reference books and am actually in the process of writing one myself currently.
Which would you recommend. I'm in the same areas in nyc
Nice!!!
You will be really happy with your pulsedive experience. I use mine with the blu3 nemo and destroy beaches. Good luck. 👍
I’m looking forward to seeing the reviews on the new NM Score machines. Hopefully not a upgraded replacement version of the Legend.

Don't let the comments bother you Merrill there is one in every bunch your a pro.
Also, on the Xtp forums, people are using the 12 inch Equinox coil to stabilize the vdi, but I haven't tried it..
Exactly!! Works every time.
I'm a tone only hunter ( Fisher CZ) . Had a whites with VDI. But found myself swing over and over and over trying to figure out the numbers instead of just digging it !
Nice comparison Merrill. It's a great entry machine for the price
Yes
Merrill what sensitivity are you running on your X-Terra Pro? (this and newer videos) Is all ocean sand the same in NY to CA? Reason I ask is some say 20 is max but I know it can go higher especially if its not in totally wet sand like a wave just rolled in and back down and it not chattering. 21 or 22?
Thanks
I'm getting ready to do some beach detecting in March 2024 for 5 days at an RV park in Carlsbad CA.
My favourite new you tube channel. Love from Western Australia.
The XTerra Pro is a lower priced machine than what the Safari was but it has the modern processing magic compared to my beloved clunky old Safari.
very sad news the manticore hasn't found any missed silvers at my sites :)
Safari is not old. Find a Garrett GTA if you want a digital screen or even better an old analog White's, Fisher or C-scoope. Beaches are not like NY parks. That English guy's learning channel who use Deus, he raffles old clunkers away.@@MetalDetectingNYC

About your test: The difference between your test and what I prefer is merely sampling in a different way, but
I would very much liked to have you swing one then the other over the same targets and hear how they sounded before digging.
Thank you! Yes I agree. We will do that in the future. Im not done testing it.

The x-terra pro on the beach sounds like R2D2 arguing with C3PO.
It does
But the X-Terra Pro Sensitivity is totally to high and Full Sensitivity without any kind of ground Feedback and that's why the Jumpy VDI and Jumpy Tone's are happening so And he was to lower the Sensitivity down and I have mine set at 12 Sensitivity and I don't have the Just Jumpy VDI on my X-Terra Pro.... until I get to a Junk Target....
This is true but remember that there is sand movement. My test happened before the layers of sand could move .
i just bought a nokta simplex ultra and it sounds just like that. found some rocks today made the the metal detector sing.
Also i am so thankful to see another human that goes around barefoot at home!!
Hi Merrill, most jewelry from China had nickel and other metal.
Great job brother, really enjoying getting to know you. Cowboy Joe 35 years searching Florida ...Gold Fever is deep in the blood. Xtera & 900 & Sea Hunter
Thanks Merrill. Enjoyed the video. 👍
I mean for $265 online…seems pretty good! Not everyone has 1K+ to buy a detector. Great detector for anyone that wants to get out and start hunting!
I think you need to do a comparison between the Xterra Pro and the new Simplex Ultra
I’ll be getting one. I have the old simplex and it is not formidable at the beach.
I like that idea
Drag your scoop behind you, and you can then use the same lines on different detectors .No one can then say you missed it with the other detector
In retrospect I wish I did that
@@MetalDetectingNYC I am a spade dragger lol
Hey try these settings on the xterra sensitivity at 14 15 kHz 5tones beach 1 all metal I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised!!!
Ive been having all kinds of issues with my detectors in water.
Silver Coins I Do a 5 Freq
All Around Detecting - 10
Gold Jewelry & Small targets 15.
Good Little Machine for the Price.
damn... i dont got facebook and i still dont want it as im not willing to give my data to them ;(
Hi trying to tested new RUTUS metal detector.
Have a great Monday
great vid, loved it. hey i recommend a green screen for videos in the selfie frames! it would look cool and clear on overlaying videos
Glad youre ok - wondered what happened to you fir the live stream especially with the wonky pic
Stay safe!
How does the X-Terra Pro stack up against the GoFind-44? Does the GoFind-44 even qualify as a decent detector?
always entertaining and always value.... tempted for the Manticore, you don't believe in target ID anyway...lol.
Maybe they will do an update to stabilize VDI
I think they outdid themselves with this one, and at that price point
Another very good informative video,I think that the new Xterra is better than the old 705 that used for many years, but them the manticore had a better target id,Merrill keep the info coming we need that kind of schooling on these new machines ,I am now using the deus 2 lite, but I am like you stick with what ever works, happy hunting my friend from down south.
This machine amazes me for the price. I would like to see how it performs with a Simplex Ultra!
I really dig your formula for presentation. Honest and likable, Always informative and Always an enjoyable to watch.. Rad🤙🏻
Seems like a better comparison test would be to run each detector over a target and see which does better before digging it up.
There was a engraving or stamp on the bottom of the Mickey earring. I saw it right before you set it down, but couldnt make out what it said.
Could you tell me what your settings were on the X-Terra pro, sensitivity... etc? thanks! love you Merrill!
It looked like it was on the Fullest sensitivity that it has and it is not even Necessary to be at Full Sensitivity without any kind of ground Feedback and I have mine set at 12 Sensitivity and I don't have the Crackling on it....
Thanks Merrill! Both capable machines
Turning down the sensitivity def helps on the xterra
Would you take the X-Terra pro over the Simplex or Simplex Lite?
X-Terra Pro Anytime after I was using the Simplex + for 4 years and I have the X-Terra Pro now it's 2 Different Detector's.... and Merrill just needs to learn from the X-Terra Pro and lower the Sensitivity down and Not any kind of detector Ever Made Today can really stand for the Full Sensitivity without any kind of ground Feedback and that's why the Jumpy VDI is Happening in the video....
I also found what I belive to be a clip on earring, but the 925 stamp is barely there if at all, I posted it online and people thought it was a swastika hallmark lol, it dosnt stick to a magnet though, I should swipe over it I forget what it rang up as
I love the x pro I wish minelab would just tweak a few little things on it and it would be perfect. I find a lot with it
Have you been to and into the X-Terra Pro Hidden Settings Yet ???? That Alot of people that don't even know that it's there to get rid of the iron..
Yes i love the auto ground balance I love mostly everything about the x pro
@@mavrick4646 WHAT 🤔 ??? I'M not talking about the Auto Ground Balance and do you have it close enough to you to turn it on and go to the Accept and Reject function and then You hold it down the Cog ⚙️ Button and it's going to change to the e1 ... and I have played with some stuff to help with identify the targets....
@@carolrice2063 wow 😯 you learn more everyday about the x pro
And that's The Iron Tone Break's if I have read it right and also on the Volume Settings there's another Hidden Setting And I think that's the Iron Volume Setting And Yes the X-Terra Pro is a Totally Tremendous Detector that I don't think that I will have to go ahead and get another Detector for a few years and it's going great for me and I Only Coin Shoot with it and it will find the Coin Targets and it's a Coin Shooters Dream Detector and I'm not Diggin up ALOT of Relics if I don't want to and I don't with it....
Merlin! This is where you going all wrong 🤔 do test area again and test manticore first and check what was missed with Xterra 😏
I don't own either machine, but your videos are always a bright spot in my day. Never miss one. Stay dirty 👍
My only question is…
Are you growing a moustache?
Get the ultra the i.d. is spot on and its deeper.
Mine is fine on beach 2 in wet send on my beach in Cornwall , sensitivity 22.
Thanks you answered my comment on a previous video!😊
You can literally sweep a Whites DFX in and out of salt water and it will automatically balance to the water and then to the land as you sweep. Why would I buy any detector that was only good for either dry land or salt water but not both?
*Metal Roomba* actually sounds like a nice name for a new Metal Detecting Channel 🤣👌🙌
Thanks for the video Merrill!
Does it find metal? Yes. The end of its talents I think. I don’t even like watching people detect with it. 😐
Just my opinion.
