  • 2007 FJR1300 It will not start without starting fluid and seems to be running very lean after replacing the small diameter coolant hoses going to the high idle wax valve. The self diagnostic checks reveals nothing. Checking for vacuum leaks reveals nothing. All 4 spark plugs look good. Everything seems to be operational, no error codes. What is wrong with this thing and how do I determine what the issue is.

Thanks. I'm glad you found the update. You are generous. I've had to learn to be a good mechanic to fix the stuff I break. I'm my own worst enemy.

When you start messing with the factory settings you are bound to run into trouble. This bike has been designed by experts and is one of the best performing bikes in the world today. I own one, leave it alone and enjoy it.

Sorry if you tried to leave a comment. I did not realize that if I checked "ok for kids" they do not allow comments. And I've discovered that there is no diagnostic mode for the O2 sensor so maybe that is my problem. A signal from the O2 sensor indicating the engine is running rich may case the ECM to lean out the fuel mixture but there is no error code or diagnostic mode to indicate this so I'm going to try and force the engine to run in open loop and see if the problem goes away when running with default settings.

Dan, how did things turn out?

also note that diagnostic code 48 to test the air solenoid valve does nothing on my bike because the PAIR system has been removed but that should have no bearing on my problem.

    Hi,
Clean the injectors both ways( with WD40+seringe+battery)
Clean fueltank and take out the fuelpump than clean the little fuelfilter on it.

thanks. I should have updated this youtube. I did run a can of seafoam through it before my trip in late July to
SD. In the end the problem was a self inflicted wound. What I should have done (and did eventually do to find the problem - see other youtube video) was to check the fuel pressure. It was only 20 psi because 2 years ago I messed up reassembling the fuel pump and it was leaking at the o ring between the upper and lower pump assembly. ua-cam.com/video/Uvxez4vX0cI/v-deo.html It's a miracle that it made it to SD and back. But now that it's working right it's a hoot to ride. I really like this bike.

Thanks. the tank was cleaned when I "fix" the broken pump. See this for an explanation. ua-cam.com/video/Uvxez4vX0cI/v-deo.html

    This seem like fuel pressure.
I had the same problem in my FZ6 from time to time when i disassembly the fuel pump and dont get correct the little rubbers on the inner tubes.
In fact, a friend of mine had exactly the same problem and the same cause las week, he took apart the fuel pump to clean the strainer and he thought that assemble it correctly but it doesnt start.
When you take out the air filter you can see the inyectors inyecting fuel but at low pressure, not atomized, so its a sympton that the fuel was being pick up by the pump but it was being returned to the fuel thank by some rubber misplaced.
After disassembly and assembly again, he told me it solved the problem.

    Hi !
You have cat the oxygen on the bike , and you expect to start .. ?
You must put back again the electronic air system of oxygen on the bike , and everything will be ok !!
