    Brilliant work! I can imagine using an raspberry pi and a tiny screen to make the buttons active. Amazing work, just wow!

    I remember when I was young I’d build my favorite models and just lay down Imagining living in a universe where I lived and worked with a real ship or space craft. I need to get back in to modeling and teach it to my kids before they get too old. Thanks for making these model videos, makes me want to get back into the hobby.

    I've see the real full size Studio version on the Intrepid in NYC. I built the AMT model when I was a kid back in the late 1970's. I think your model looks better than both. Nicely done!

    That. Is. Stunning. The lighting effects, the details, the finish, the base, those beautiful under-lit buttons, and to top it all that innovative way of powering it, just wow! You didn’t show the buttons working, tho, Boyd, do they do anything or are they just display only?

    • @TrekWorks
      @TrekWorks  6 років тому +3

      The buttons are just for display. I thought about making a few of them blink but thought better of it. It would distract too much from the model itself I think.

    • @Lumibear.
      @Lumibear. 6 років тому

      TrekWorks - I do see your thinking, but they look so very tempting, lol, in certain situations I bet you’re gonna get so many trekkers pressing them then goin, ‘Aw’ when they don’t make the right beep! You might need a little printed card that says ‘Like the original prop, buttons are non-functional’ or similar, in case people get too hands-on! I know I would!

  • @kevinpogue7294
    @kevinpogue7294 5 років тому

    I heard recently that the original studio prop was constructed at 3/4 scale of the original blueprint size, I assume for budget reasons. If this is true, it would be interesting to see a model build that adjusted for this. the seats may be slightly small in proportion to the hull, and have enough room that any scale figures could actually stand up in it. which the actors couldn't do in the interior shuttle set.

  • @AvengerII
    @AvengerII 6 років тому +1

    Heh heh.
    Better than the REAL studio model with all that lighting.
    Again, personally not my favorite TOS design but it's a damn nice model build!
    Very nice base! If there's one thing you always do well Boyd besides maintaining an enthusiasm level in your videos it's finding out a nice style base to fit these customized models.
    It's an elegant simple base solution but it fits. Right color schemes and console style, I'm sure!
    You really like those buttons, don't you?
    I have to admit -- the interior color scheme IS something I like better about the TOS Enterprise versus the later era Starships. TOS Enterprise actually looks like it was color-coordinated for people's mental health -- anybody who was going to spend years out in space in a sealed structure. I don't think battleship grey and dull colors do wonders for people's moods long-term!
    I do appreciate the choice of putting it on a Starship-style landing pad. It fits! They don't always have to be suspended or flying in space. Much as I like to see things fly there are times they look nice parked. This definitely looks very nice the way it is.

    • @TrekWorks
      @TrekWorks  6 років тому +1

      It's pretty amazing how many of those 50 year old designs from the show are still so effective.

    • @AvengerII
      @AvengerII 6 років тому

      Yes, the designs have held up!
      There's not a lot of designs after the Motion Picture era that I care for in all honesty but they didn't really change the layout of of the bridge all that much because it worked. Matt Jefferies got it right in the original pilot episode!
      The bigger problem with the newer shows and movies are the very heavy-handed politics and deliberate lying about which Star Trek they were going to carry on from with the newer show on CBS Digital.
      I didn't like what I saw in the ST: Discovery trailer and I'm not going to subscribe to yet another digital service just to watch a new show which seems to be more of what I didn't like in the JJ films to begin with -- bad acting, bad writing, and bad art desig, with added heavy-handed bullypulpitting (although JJ-Trek is more like watching a flavorless attempt at a Trek version of Star Wars; the social agenda isn't emphasized that much in the JJ films).
      They handled the social issues a LOT better in the original Star Trek and (mostly) TNG. I've never cared for the politicizing that calls anybody who has a reasonably thought-out alternative opinion an idiot -- that's what I don't care for with political correctness.
      The JJ films are controversial, let's be honest... A lot of people are NOT happy with the JJ-Verse and the fact that CBS lied about the fact that Star Trek: Discovery is a prequel to THAT alterate universe and not the prime/true/classic Star Trek timeline. Frankly, I think Classic Trek will still be around in 15 years (after all the original prime cast are long gone) but JJ-Trek will end up on the dustbin of Star Trek series like ST: Enterprise which just didn't work out in the long run...

    And what sort of range did it have to reach planets and make it back to the Enterprise?
    And how long before the power and onboard food, water and oxygen depleted?
