I almost cried. Very emotional moment in history! First shuttle craft in Sci-fi? Wonderful. Many Brazilians love Galileo, too! 💕
I did, and it caught me by surprise!
I've seen someone restore the DeLorean from Back to the Future, I saw someone restore the K.I.T.T. 1982 Pontiac Trans Am from Knight Rider, and now this. This shuttle's restoration is as much of a labor of love as the other two projects. I have to say they did well restoring this prop back to it's full glory. :D
I watched the Star Trek series as an elementary school kid when originally broadcast. The restoration of the shuttle is a nice thing for us old fans of the series
Adam Schneider, thank you for restoring her! Your team’s very expensive labor of love will inspire the next gen and brings back great memories for us old farts!
What an amazing project! The ultimate tribute to our favorite Shuttlecraft..
Paying tribute to the greatest TV sci-fi series which influenced so much.
beautiful work! somehow it makes me happy to know this little part of my childhood has been restored.
It’s Awesome that some people can still appreciate a classic like this, Bravo....
Seeing the Star Trek scenes with Galileo just made me feel good. Great memories. 👍
When I was a kid, I used to walk by this everyday going to school when it was at the Foundation for the Jr. Blind in Los Angeles, in the 60's. Used to wonder why it was there since the kids were blind. Still, it was cool to look at and I wanted to get in it but it was fenced in. Memories.
Thats some cool information right there
Very cool
One of the most awesome restorations ever. Thank you guys. I love this work.
I am just so pleased with this rebuild restoring such a iconic prop from my youth. As with others the star trek series inspired me and my love of science especially science. I am very happy that this piece of history will now be cared for in a proper setting so that young people may see it and the show and it will inspire them. Thank you again.
It truly does belong in a museum. Great job guys. Thank you
lothean SO DO YOU!
I visited Space Center Houston last year and had no idea it was there. I was eating in the cafeteria and saw the shuttlecraft sitting in the back corner.
So glad to see this prop restored, and made publicly available. Thanks for sharing this.
Those guys are awesome. Thank you Master Shipwrights!
amazing... this brought tears to my eyes.
I just now read in the "Comments" that the Shuttle is no longer on display at Johnson because the COO didn't think it "fits". I'm retired and have visited ALL the major A&S centers/museums in this country and spent 3 days at Kennedy SFC a few weeks before visiting Johnson in December 2017. EXCEPT for the Space Shuttle mounted on the Boeing 747 carrier and a Saturn V rocket, Johnson was a TOTAL disappointment. I do not recommend it. They did not even acknowledge the existence of SpaceX and offered no SpaceX items for sale in their gift shop. Fortunately I had bought a number of SpaceX shirts and other items at Kennedy SFC for Christmas presents when there. The Startrek Shuttle MUST go where it will be appreciated. Johnson does not deserve it. My #1 recommendation is the Smithsonian at Dullas Airport near DC where they are now carefully restoring the Enterprise scale model used for the TV show and movies.
SpaceX's flight suits don't look functional. Maybe it is just theatre like Star Trek.
They did it!! It was such a sad mess in the pre-restoration videos. I'm so happy about this!! Congrats, guys, on a job well done!!
This is awesome huge Star Trek fan ☺️🎥😇😊😎📼👾🎞
Yeah a Star Trek fan club in my city got it in the newspapers and TV made a big deal about it, and hid it from everybody and nothing ever became of it and now I see this! I'm glad!!
This is great. I would like to see one actually fly. For now, this is an inspiring relic. RIP to the crew members who have passed on to the far reaches of the galaxy. Live long and prosper.
Thank you for that Herculean effort! So cool of all involved! I'm glad it still exists!
My favorite story about STAR TREK is when I first met Scott Carpenter, Mercury Astronaut we were at a Black Tie event backstage and as I walked up to greet him he was watching a wall monitor playing an original series STAR TREK episode. As we chatted he said "I LOVE this show" and I said "You Are Responsible For That Show" and we all laughed knowing.
KUDOS! to everyone involved in the effort to restore this artifact! May it inspire others to dream of the possibilities of exploration and understanding our world and universe!
Someone explain the 'normalize' audio function to the narrator. Holy crap, blowing my eardrums between interviews and narration.
I'm working on an AMT model kit of this shuttle right now. The kit is woefully inaccurate out of the box. But thankfully there is an upgrade kit for the AMT Galileo that makes it more accurate. I'm looking forward to the results.
I saw one of these sitting off the road for many years in Calabasas California near Woodland Hills in the mid 80s nice to see it restored
What a wonderful story, what a patient and loving wife to let her husband to do this.
:3 You guys have done Gene Roddenberry and Matt Jefferies proud by giving the Galileo Shuttlecraft the restoration it rightfully deserves ^_^ Gentlemen i salute you and say from one trek fan to a bunch of trek fans on behalf of the entire Trek fandom. Well Done :3.
Too cool. It's amazing it was saved in time. A real sci-fi icon.
Thank You very Much, you all did a Great Job
People come together common love of something and saved it. Thank you
Brilliant👍🏼
You have got to love people like this.
He never asked for fan donations either. I tried!
very aspirational, and very generous of the schneider’s to save this piece of the way humans dream about their future.
So glad this was saved.
just about the welded armature and pods were saved, all new covers and busy box.plus it survived HURRICANE SANDY in NJ tooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@gertraba4484 Holy shit, thx for pointing that out
Never really think about things like restoration projects and antiques when theres a natural disaster afoot.
But hey, it was restored by boat guys, not shocked it did well in water ;)
You people have done a wonderful job, thank you..
Before the restoration, it was lucky it wasn't hauled away AS garbage!
That's gonna go over a lot of heads.
Haha! I see what you did there. : )
Laddie, don't you think you should rephrase that?
Those are fighting words
It's a matter of pride
What a beautiful work of love and inspiration for the future fans and those who dream! Grea restoration
I love this! God Bless the restorers! Thank You!
What a fantastic job.. So glad they're People like these women and men to preserve such items..
Labor of love. Great job!
Thank you from Trekkies everywhere for saving this valuable piece of modern culture.
I'm a Trekkie from way back. God bless these people.... live long and prosper!
I remember following its repair a few years back. They posted a bulletin every week or few days. I can't remember how it was done now, I think it was on a website not YT or any sort of social media.
Great to see it in it's restored condition... gonna have to see this in Houston IRL some time
THIS IS BEYOND AWESOME...TY!!!🖖🖖
Love the work and trekkie spirit!!
Thank you for saving an icon!!
Awesome project!.. well done👍
great job!!!! going to build the new model kit!!!!
I've got the Galileo as a Christmas ornament. Last time I check the voice of Spock still worked.
Dude! Where did you get that? I must have one.
RaisedByCats Hallmark Christmas ornaments. Check eBay. I might have 2 of them.
@@samiam619 Thank you!
Amazing work.
I heard it was infested with tribbles
Terrible little critters
@@carlose4314 - Only if you are a Klingon...
That's the trouble with tribbles
@@SailaSobriquet yuup they've all been spayed and neutered so no more trouble from those tribbles,ok I apologize for the bad joke I'll take the fall for this one.
This design shuttle could be used in space and to land on the moon if it was set up right.
Awesome to see it restored. Is Disney still hiding that Millennium Falcon over in the UK?
sadly the Johnson Space Center has placed Galileo into storage
witch means she is no longer on display
Not all Heros wear capes.
Fantastic remodel!
8:22 "... and it had a hopeful vision of human nature, or how human nature might improve in the future."
Yes!!!
Amazing! :D thanks for share it
Well done!!
Awesome, well done!!!
Nice work..A+
They did it! Those magnificent bastards did it!
Thanks for bringing back to life some fond memories.
Nice job btw.
Very nice to see it was restored. Live long and prosper.
@ 5:58 I like how they focused the camera upon a blemish in the paint job about the size of a silver dollar on one of the engine nacelles.
QC Took a little coffe break on that one, or maybe Khan blasted it there!
A happy story and an inspiring video but they should have gotten Uhura to handle the sound mixing and volume level control.
Very cool!
WHAT A GREAT VIDEO.
Glad this was saved!
The audio levels on the documentary are extremely off.
wow..this was historical for me to watch!!!!
Nice to see the effort put into restoring it (easily a 9 out of 10) but let us know when it actually does get put into flight status.
I'm happy that this, the 11ft ENTERPRISE model & the Klingon battle cruiser model survived the Hollywood dumpster🖖...but the Enterprise 3ft model is still missing though😢
awesome piece of film history saved
Like the Tardis, the shuttle is larger inside than out. Spock has an extra foot of head clearance in Galileo 7, but this fellow must stoop over when viewed from the outside.
Very cool. I salute your Trek power
good job, congratulations
Great job!! 🇺🇸
Nice job, and as a matter of interest what maximum speed did the Galileo have in open space?
And what sort of range did it have to reach planets and make it back to the Enterprise?
And how long before the power and onboard food, water and oxygen depleted?
@Landica Gaudens Thanks, warp 3 is not bad and and I wonder what warp 3 equates to in terms of miles per hour?
PS- I think the Enterprises top speed is warp 9
@Landica Gaudens speaking of time warp, the film Interstellar does it realistically..:)
I spent an entire day (opening to closing) at Houston SFC in December 2017 and did not see the Startrak Shuttle exhibit. Is it still there? If so, where? I may return just to see it. I thought I had seen everything.
Great contribution and craftsmanship. Curiously, the video doesn’t show the interior which I assume was also restored.
The prop was only ever an outer shell. All interior scenes from the show were filmed on a separate set that was much too large to fit inside the prop. Notice that the actors could stand fully upright on the set, but the interior of the prop is only around 5-feet from floor to ceiling, which is why the actors are always hunched over when they exit it.
It was at Space Center Houston, I saw it first at Astronaut Gallery, then it got moved to the food court (Zero G Diner), and the last time I saw it was at the warehouse next to the employee parking lot.
AWESOME JOB. LITTLE DO PEOPLE KNOW THAT GENE WINFIELD IS A CAR GUY, A HOT ROD BUILDER...WOW. MOPAR 4 EVER.
This used to sit in front of my house when it was owned by a prior owner. Search "palos verdes Galileo".
Yup, I remember it.....neighborhood was called "Monticello" in Palos Verdes.......circa, 1972 or so....
Love this ❤️🤓👍
She's beautiful!!
Very nice video! One problem, though - whomever edited the video REALLY needed to do a better job of balancing the volume of the individual video segments!!
I liked that shuttlecraft!
Can someone help me as to why they used the shuttlecraft instead of beaming down?
There were times the planet's atmosphere or some other "scientific" reason would not allow it. I used quotes because, basically it came down to what the script called for.
kudoes to you, guys!!!
Live long and prosper Galileo!
Would have love to have been there. Now I'm going to have to go to Houston to see it.
Thank you.for what all you do to all that do.it
Well done.✌🖖👍
What was the name of Shuttlecraft /6 in the CBS/Paramount shot? can you tell me please?
Mr. Matt Jeffery, saludos desde los confinamientos del espacio, nos veremos!!!!!
É bom rever este veículo espacial senti saudades do velho e bom seriado antigo.😀👍👍👍
Abraço
They talk and talk about in this video but don;t really show it or elaborate on details of it.
Because they don't know any.
Drinkwhiswyraisehell Well they did say they had to replace "ALL of the wood & Fiberglass" and re-used the metal parts, looking at it, most of it is wood, so they will not show the work, as it was not really (restored), more a replica of the original with original bits re fitted on to a new shell, which if they showed the work, it would clearly show. The same thing was done with the original General Lee No;1 car, the shell was so bad they re=shelled the car, fitted a few savable bits from the original on it, and claimed it was restored, when it was not!.
@@Cortinaman63 So... basically they did to Galileo the same thing they did to every single Constitution-class ship in the fleet when the movies started back in the 70's.
Beautiful
How it was restored to flight status, if it were made in Britain "Well, we just got some new cardboard boxes, painted them white and then had a tea break" ;+}
Can't believe the one and only Gene Winfield, custom car builder was responsible for the design n build of the shuttle Craft.
The trekkies will b pleased
So cool!
A shame that Matt Jeffries, who designed *all* the models and sets for the original series, never got a penny of the royalties from the sales of model kits, posters, etc., while Desilu, then Paramount, raked in millions.
