  • Today we dive into English pop band Johnny Hates Jazz. "Shattered Dreams" is a song off their debut studio album TURN BACK THE CLOCK released in 1988. In The US the song was released with an alternative music video shot entirely in black & white. The tune was a Top Ten Hit around the world!

The nostalgia and beauty of this one is off the charts for me. Great 80s pick as always!!

Classic mid/late '80s track. They also made some other good ones during their seldom career, such as 'Heart of Gold' and 'Turn back the clock' where Kim Wilde had provided some backing vocals on it possibly due to her affair with one of the band members.

Johnny Hates Jazz has some great songs that I love. This song, plus Pamela from Toto and Dreaming from OMD, were my 3 favorites of the year. Still try to listen to them together.

Superb track of its era…..production values were high on this track, and it still stands the test of time, in my top 20 of 80s songs 👍🇮🇲👌

One of the top songs from 88 for sure. Both this and Climie Fisher's Love Changes Everything are top 88 hits for me

Cool 😎 actually love both Naked Eyes & Climie Fisher. Maybe first time heard them mentioned, ha. "Fire on the Ocean" is classic 😎

      @@reactionextraction Cool bro 😎
Love Fire On The Ocean too, Rob does an amazing job on those keys, and Simon his usual amazing vocals and energy. I still have both LP's, both are great. Funny thing is, by 88 my "pure mullet" phase was swifting a bit, and i got obsessed with copying Simon's hair style, anf his style in general... 😋
      R. I. P. Rob Fisher, thank you for the music.
BTW: Simon made a cool new version of Love Changes a few yeaes ago:

So much for your promises is like the one I would utter if someone said I had to give one line from an esoteric 1980’s song.

Just as recognisable as Alannah Myles "Black Velvet" and Living in a box with their "living in a box"

JHJ were part of the late 1980s sophisti pop movement. Tracks such as this had high production values that were polished.

Love watching these reactions!I am an 80s kid and love seeing how the younger generation reacts to these classic tracks. I would love to see you guys react to this 80s gem Olivia Newton-John's "Heart Attack". ua-cam.com/video/IN4_OSt0plY/v-deo.html

They had a few decent hits. This was my favourite. I'm not sure if the Genre of Sophisti-Pop was invented after the fact but that is what Wiki has it down as 😊 Swing out Sister also come under that Genre, apparently, Lol.

If you are interested in foreign bands and don't mind them singing in other languages than English, then may I suggest Danish rockband The Minds of 99 with their new song "Og du blev til en hvis fugl"... I don't know if you will like it, but just a suggestion - coming from a Dane of course😅

Can you pleae react to either of these two songs from Black, 'too many times' or 'fly me to the moon'. Your son would love both. He sang 'Wonderful Life' in the 80s but everyone reacts to that. Colin has one of the most criminally underated voices ever in music.
