    I work at a very intense job. Most days when I get home, I am very tired and I have zero energy. I need to recharge all my internal batteries. Watching the Waltons is one way I recharge. The shows reminds of me of all the good things in life I don't see during the day, like kind people, beautiful nature, a slower pace, home cooking! Thanks to everyone involved in the show - I am very grateful for your continued positive impact on my life.

    Tonight the children's carol on. The human compassion that Ben did replacing Verdies money so the children could have a nice Christmas. Great episode. The compassion and love and being unselfish you don't see this in this time now. This show is a reminder of the kindness and love people had for one another. This show has and shows the kindness we should have for one another. Eric Scott did a great job. The whole cast. Also showing the love she had and how she missed Kurt her husband. I believe Judy has those values in her real life with her family. It's amazing to see these episodes every day. It's a reminder to show kindness to people and loved ones.❤❤

    I remember "The Walnuts" 😆. I heard of the waltons back then, but hadnt watched any episodes. When the waltons premiered in '72, I was only 8 (not much older than Elizabeth). I didnt start watching the show until just a few years ago. I don't think I was mature enough to appreciate it when it was originally aired. At that age, unless there were a lot of car chases and gun fights, my attention wouldve strayed not far into the show. In the '70s, I watched Baretta and Starsky and Hutch 😆

    I guess it's a good thing they didn't shoot multiple episodes at once - it would make it hard to keep lines straight! (At least it seems like it would to the inexperienced me!) You answered my question about learning lines recently and said you typically learned them the night before or even right before you shot a scene. Although I'm sure you could have done it, 🥰 having different scenes in your head for different episodes that were totally different story lines might have gotten confusing! I love when The Waltons are referenced randomly - and it happens quite often, actually! Numerous times in TV shows, characters do the whole "Good Night, John Boy,'" bedtime routine, for instance. Same in books - just last week The Waltons were referenced in a novel I was reading...and yesterday Will Geer was a clue in the crossword puzzle I was doing!😁

    Wow, That was great footage you included Judy, I would love to see the Carol Burnett Sketch and Mad Mag's comic strip of the Waltons. It's satirical, witty, and probably mimicked in good taste. To impersonate such a critically claimed award-winning show would be a challenge for the comedic actors and they would not have an audience if you and the Waltons weren't immensely popular and relevant.🤩🤩

    Ask Judy: You have mentioned the child actors would return to public school during the off-seasons of filming The Waltons. Was it challenging to make friends at public school or feel involved in the school community?? Did the other children treat you differently because you were on television?? Did the on-set teacher partner with each child actor's school to collaborate on the curriculum??Thank you again for taking time to answer our questions.

    • @judynorton2598
      @judynorton2598  5 місяців тому +2

      Yes, it was challenging to return to public school. Many, if not all of us experienced teasing about being on the show. It wasn’t considered “cool” in Los Angeles. And likely jealousy played a part as well. Our teachers did not collaborate with our schools. I would go to the office to establish what the requirements were for the upcoming grade and get the text books the school would be using. Then take that info to the studio teacher.

    Hi Judy. In the episode The Heritage Grandma and Grandpa are celebrating an anniversary and Grandpa is dancing a jig on some boards. Do you recall the shooting of that scene? Will Gear was really giving it his all - how was that to shoot? Also I note Grandma was wearing her wedding dress but it was not the same one passed down to Mary Ellen to wear. Back then they had no idea we would be able to watch and rewatch the episodes so this type of continuity was not on their radar.

A question: If Mr. Senensky would ever sit with you for another interview, I wonder if he might talk about his memories of growing up. As you know, born in 1923, the same year as Mr. Hamner, Mr. Senensky has such life experience, his perspective on so much about life and living would be a treasure to behold and, I’m sure, from which to learn. Hi Judy - I agree with other comments. It is relaxing to watch your videos. Your tone is gentle and the details are interesting especially after seeing the episodes on tv (which sometimes are shown here the same time you talk about them.). Today we watched The Caretakers episode and thought it was one of the funniest most light hearted episodes of the Waltons. They did an excellent job with that one. Grandma could be so rigged but equally sweet. What was she like in real life? Soft spoken or more like grandma? lol Zeb of course was always fun to watch. In the Caretaker the house they were staying at had a really long set of stairs down a rocky ledge. I wondered why they would create that? I don’t recall seeing it on other episodes. Seems like a lot of work and harder for filming. The credits rolled by too fast so I didn’t see who wrote or directed that one. Was it written by someone not used before? It just had a more unique fun vibe than other episodes that made it a joy to watch. Thanks 😊

    • @judynorton2598
      @judynorton2598  5 місяців тому

      Ellen was a mix of strong, smart, funny, caring… My guess is that house was one on the lot that had the right look for what they wanted for the episode. The Caretakers was written by Richard Carr who wrote 4 episodes. It was directed by Ivan Dixon.

    Top segment Judy, loved the questions but loved the answers even more. We had a comedy show in the late 90's that did a parody of the Waltons and it was very funny. I take it that on two part episodes it takes the two weeks to shoot it and if so, it would be a lot easier to reshoot any scenes which did not turn out right the first time? Anyways, best wishes as always to you Judy from your waltonian superfan in a pleasant warmer and sunny England😉

    Sheila Allen was in "The Towering Inferno", her husband's production. Dorothy Neuman was a character actress who worked for years in Hollywood and had small parts in many movies and TV shows. It seems to me she played the wife of Otis on "The Andy Griffith Show". Some directors like Ralph Senensky and Walter Alzmann knew how to budget the time. I understand Alzmann later taught them how to do it on "Tales of the Gold Monkey". Eric Scott said he loved the sketch on Carol Burnett. "Immitation is the sincerest form of flattery." Hi, if you were only in one scene on a particular day and it only took a few hours to film, could you go home immediately afterward or did you have to "hang around" for the rest of the day to get paid? Also, if you weren't in any scenes on a particular day did you have to come in for rehearsing and/or to attend school on set? If you were sick for one or more days were you just written out of an episode? How was sickness handled if you were a central character in that episode? Thanks!

    • @judynorton2598
      @judynorton2598  5 місяців тому

      Once we were done filming our scenes we could leave. When we were still in school, we had to stay to complete at least our 3 hour requirement. Regular cast were paid by the episode regardless of how many scenes we were in. If someone was sick, they would likely be written out of scenes. We mostly tried to show up and work even if sick. Not ideal, but no one else can do your job. If you were too sick to show up, you were worked around. If you were integral to the story, they would try to reschedule.

And I know the cast members are often ask what their favorite episode is, but I thought this might be fun to think about. Do you have a favorite season? Maybe because of the storylines, behind the sences memories or charecter arc?
