So awesome to wake up to the highlights of this epic event and re-live it all again! Felt so bad for Sam, but what a turn of events! Patrick Lange is the man! Thanks for staying up all night to compile this amazing footage! I ❤ The Daily Tri! 😊
Sam Laidlow beat his own Kona bike course record by ~8 minutes. He paid for those 8 minutes with 30 minutes on the run. I hope he got a huge sponsor bonus for the sub 4hr bike course record.
We've recently seen the swim record and the bike record both get smashed by people who sacrificed the rest of their race to get that record. I hope that someday soon a super runner will sabotage their early race and drop a crazy run split lol
Pacing is everything, truly knowing your body inside and out, saving watts by riding at the back of the front pack is great strategy, and understanding that this race is almost always won and lost on the back half of the marathon
That was epic! Patrick Lange was the only one that the Kona course didn’t destroy. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many amazing athletes humbled by the heat and humidity as well as the tempo of the powerhouse swim/cycle combination of Sam Laidlow. Great race!
This is where I live! It’s crazy what these athletes got to go through but it’s also unfortunate that I had to work on this race day instead of watching it almost every year.
It's a razor's edge ride, as we clearly saw yesterday. Overhyped stuff always goes wrong - sooner or later. I think, sustainable experience and intelligence is a big part of the puzzle and an important component of success...not just in our sport. BIG Congrats, Patrick!
When you look at the top 10 you can clearly see the value of experience and a belief in your self that is built upon that experience rather than media hype.
Ironman damaged its brand by splitting men’s and women’s races and moving the Kona event. They need to revamp their PR, especially since losing NBC coverage and Mike Reilly’s iconic announcements.
Why anyone thought LS would get near the top 10 is pure insanity. He literally stated that he wasn't going to race, but to "do his best." He's a competitor and decided not to compete.
Patrick Lange might be the GOAT that everyone in the sport had overlooked. I cannot see this record be beaten anytime soon. Laidlow cannot run fast in Kona after destroying the field in the swim and bike sections. KB has shown his limits both in Paris and Kona. Frodeno's record in 2019 was 7h52. Technology has improved but not by 16 mn.. Gustav Iden has not confirmed his brilliant talent and promises. Mark Allen and Dave Scott are from another era etc...
First, tremendous video. Any way to get more? Second, this was to be my 30th time competing here but a cold/covid forced me to spectate with my wife. She said it best, "Something was wrong. No women." I agree as do my several Kona veteran friends. ONE DAY. ONE RACE.
Swim course record broken by Sam Askey-Doran (age grouper) 45:43 Bike course record broken by Sam Laidlow 3:57:22 Course record Patrick Lange 7:35:53 (1:19 off run record) Like what? This sport is getting kinda stupid. 🤯
You can't fit 30 guys in a row at 20m. That would be a 600m long train. How could anyone overtake? 12m is fine. You hardly get any benefit at that distance. It's the motorbikes that give far more benefit.
It's more difficult than you'd expect. Too much to write here, but unless your race is limited to 20 people, there's just not enough room for an IM bc of the Age Group race component.
@@bigredactionsportsstuff1245 I don’t know, let mark allan ride a super bike and draft in a train of 30 riders and then wear some alphaflys in his prime.
I was disappointed! Too many blowups. Many didnt do their race trying to follow others in the bike. I think they lost the respect to the race. Time to go back to basics?
Hope you enjoyed it! What a race!

INB4 Ironman tells you you have to take this down 🙄
“You don’t ‘win’ the bike only to walk the run.” - Every triathlon coach, ever.
He won the bike in Nice it seemed to work out there and it seemed to work out ok in 2022 Kona.
I guess we are going back to the German method 😂
Going to lange method...its mind-boggling, what he did and how he did it
Haha yea
The Norwegians don’t train for Ironman
The Norwegian method didn’t work. The Canadian method was disappointing.
The French method is just crazy!
Haha, brilliant comment!! They sure did KB dirty with the slow mo shots of him projectile vomiting against the backdrop of the intense racing music.
Thanks for getting these highlights up so quick!
Wow what a Kona Ironman race - epic race! Thanks for this footage Travis. I watch it a few times. Great year of Triathlons.

There is so much recency bias these days. People throwing around ‘Goat’ aimlessly. Mark Allen and Dave Scott both won 6 Kona titles.

Have been watching Kona for 40 years. Have never seen so many destroyed souls after that run yesterday. Carnage prevailed.
So many got caught up with pretty bike numbers. The likes of wurfy, Lange, Ditlev and Rudy all were patient and executed really well

why there are running so slow? legit question? it was hot?
Hot, humid, some got stung by jellyfish and many of them overbiked trying to catch up with Sam.
The Norwegian method, how to lose nutrition through the race 😮
They race in a peloton now?
How many penalties were handed out during the bike? Several times it looked like you could call at least six or seven.

The Norwegian method, better not to draft or you'll take my nutrition

at the bike and on the run. Thats why its a triathlon 😅
He told us, he won it at Mile 5 in the run when his late mum was with him. Goosebumps.
