How to install ceiling light without existing wiring. Adding electrical box to finished ceiling.
In order to add an electrical box to a finished ceiling you have to first locate the power source and then decide how you will get power from that power source to the electrical box.
In this video I add an electrical box to my finished ceiling and I walk you through step by step. Our living room did not have any lights in it, so it was unusable space after dark. This was one of those projects that were not priority on my list, but necessary. I finally got around to do it and it took about 1/2 day to complete.
Since I had crown moulding in this room, I decided to fish my wire behind the trim and that does help quite a bit in making less holes or no holes in your ceiling.
Once I have my ceiling hole cut out I fish my wire through joist bay across the room and down behind the trim. I then fish another wire from the 2 gang switch box up to the wall right behind the trim and finally I connect the two wires.
