Morvelaira Morvie, can you please give dire a lesson on the value of depth? I feel like that's all he's missing to be a moderate builder. He's been a decently competent builder for a few seasons, he just needs a good depth conversation. Explain to him that a wall can be more than 1 block thick.
I started watching a couple months ago, so im still not upset about the 9x9s yet. Besides, its a very efficient design anyways, just not appealing to the eyes.
GinkoG obviously not very long because it's the running joke of this channel. That's not why I'm here. dire is the reason I know how to literally automate everything.
I to have a few go-to designs so I know the feeling. The octagonal tower is kind of a specialty I've developed after playing a lot of Witchery. The way it upgrades the size of the "circles" for the rituals inspired me to design a modular octagonal base to build off of. Dire's inspiration for 9x9 was how the lighting engine balances more more easily at that size range with the usual Torches.
Tip/reminder for dire and other players: Put pistons in your dark boots, empower them and carry a battery (I'm doing a double battery) with you. Life becomes so much nicer! (This was in response to dire saying how he sometimes misses flight while pillaring up to fix wiring) Also the slime slingshot combined with glider wings in your dark chestplate is fun times. Makes exploring so much more enjoyable.
Not that it really matters, but I think that the elevator mod is fine to have downloaded, it was just a quality of life upgrade that didn't effect any of the tech, if per-say dire downloaded a mod that let him have wireless power earlier on, just for the quality of life, that wouldn't be ok, but all the elevator does it make it easier to go up and down, it's easier for him, and gives us a nicer video with no 5 minutes of stairs every episode
Travel Anchors work the same as the elevators . There is no reason to use add elevators. I don't know if he wanted to make his life easier or have them done easier as the travel anchors are a bit more expensive. Not much, but they are harder to get to. At this point he can do both, but I seriously don't see the reason why anybody needs to add any mod to this pack.
Here's a tiny thing that makes a difference. Make corners of the base log pillars. And also for elevator, travel anchors do it when they are place above each other
Ender IO and Immersive Engineering power transfer systems are both very good for specific purposes. Ender IO is great for short distances and confined spaces where you may want other stuff running through the same block. IE is the best I have found so far for long distance wiring. The best of both worlds comes from using conduits to make wiring harnesses for sets of machines so 1 connection to the main power running into the room from the central generator.
Consider using an AA crusher for general ore processing, rather than the macerator. It's really not too expensive at this point in the tech tree, and is much faster than the macerator - and it has a chance for bonus dusts with some ores.
For now, though, he doesn't have overclocker upgrades either, and getting access to them is rather more complicated than making a crusher. If it's even possible...I can't see a recipe for coolant in JEI, and I'm not sure if it's because of IC2 doing its "hiding recipes" thing or because the recipe has genuinely been removed.
And he can make both a SAG Mill and make capacitators for it to run faster. It should be "doable" to make 3 sag mills and 3 alloy smelters and automate ore doubling.
I really wish certain blocks from eg RFTools had been given recipes more friendly to the early game; the elevator is nice and stylish, but not worth the expense of multiple RFTools machine frames until you're absolutely swimming in resources. (Happy discovery, though: chorus fruit CAN be grown in a garden cloche.) In the meantime, as others have observed, the travel anchor will have to do. Though it's also nice to have for bases with any horizontal sprawl, anyway.
I am trying to use simething fancy for the walls, like..... smooth stone ;) I like your 9x9 s, they are functional, and form follows function, so they are great.
For the machines that need power from the top, do you think you could run the lines from the basement to outside the house and onto the top of the house and then you can feed the machines power directly through the ceiling?
I love how Dire's idea of making the base prettier is to replace the blocks of the walls and ceiling of his boxes with fancier blocks and move the mess to a basement. Gotta love Dire.
hey man, I really like this series, and don't let people complaining about a lack of aesthetics get to you, if I want building- I'll watch BdoubleO. Do your thang man!
Another great passive power option is the immersive engineering thermoelectric generator use uranium blocks and ice for crazy rf/t and its passive and doesn't consume resources
I've been watching since the 1.2.5 days with Equivalent Exchange 2 and such (FTB Pyramid map, Tekkit. Those days). I've watched his entire back catalog, however, so I've seen his LP's with the original Thaumcraft and IndustrialCraft (the original, good one. Not the new IC2-Ex, aka mini-Gregtech)
The elevator was a decent idea for video purposes, as it cuts out unnecessary tedium of climbing ladders. Yeah, it costs a lot less resources than travel anchors or whatnot but I'd say this is fine. I can see the argument it's against the spirit of the pack, sure, just don't think it really matters.
Pretty sure the point of this pack is to make things you normally take for granted harder. He's totally at the tech level to make them, it just takes some effort.
About the base design 1) it dies bother me that it is the same 2) but since you gave the explanation and that's the style you like....then whatever floats your boat. 8)
crazy wizard73 yea maybe something different like automating a culinary generator, I currently have my base powered off 4 culinary gens (using baguettes each with 2 speed upgrades) and a tier 2 environmental tech solar passively as well as a windmill and waterwheel and when I need large amounts of energy I have a setup like from his last series for melons and 2 diesel generators
as a long time viewer (5 years i think) the oil is still new and amazing and cool its part of the limited options in reasonable fuel sources. (Coal , food, Nuclear, lazy renewable aka Solar) The oil builds are fun in depth and difficult i love it and this is only the second series i have seen it on.
find an ender lilly fron clearing grass and put it in the greenhouse, it ignores the can grow check in the greenhouse and they grow really fast, it just wont harvest them, and you have to plant it manually
Why not just make the ender energy conduits? All that takes is an additional ender pearl with the energized ingots, which you already use to make the tier 2 ones. You even set up an ender pearl farm, might aswell use it. I made the AA crusher in I believe the second age. Saves a lot of time and gives additional outputs for some ore. Otherwise very enjoyable to watch. Keep it up. Im always an age ahead of you so it's fun to see your progression compared to mine.
I wouldn't consider the lumberaxe incident a direderp. I've had similar happen to me with them. Once I have the ability, I upgrade the dark steel axe. that thing is a beast!
He added it to the pack and made no changes. In other words he cheated here. Because the only thing that is somewhat the same is the travel anchor which is a bit more expensive and it works the same (with some additions).
Everyone PANIC dire cheated, oh no, he added a mod that sped him up right into the last age!!! OHHHH NOOOO!!!! Calm down people, It was just an Elevator (yes, I know he could use Travel Anchors... But what does that even matter? All it does is gets him up/down in far less time than a ladder would)
I'm not particularly happy having to add a mod to the modpack to continue our let's play. Modpack should stay vanilla. The way the modpack creators intended.
Omg i could have been first, i have watched 8 min already D:. The direderp with lumberaxe was a real derp sinne You said IT mines a 3x3 area, IT mines 3x3x3 area....
What are you doing with all those resources? The most I've built is 2 void miners (full speed upgrades) and had more than I could use. Always try to find some resource intensive projects to use the stuff but usually don't make a dent in it.
You're using blocks that you like. That's the essence of aesthetics. Don't let the haters get to you.
If only you could paint travel anchors...
...at least, I don't think you can. It's been a while.
You can
I'm on Twitch, every weekday XD
Morvelaira Morvie, can you please give dire a lesson on the value of depth? I feel like that's all he's missing to be a moderate builder. He's been a decently competent builder for a few seasons, he just needs a good depth conversation. Explain to him that a wall can be more than 1 block thick.
Morvelaira he respects your building chops more than anyone, so that conversation might be taken to heart
When not cutting down trees, the Lumber Axe cuts wood in a 3x3x3 area.
Not a 3x1x3 plane.
anyone who complains about a 9x9 in a direwolf series must be new to dire's videos. its what he does, just like dire wire.
EHC MineMadNut or they've been watching him for a while and are just tired of gray cubes in EVERY. SINGLE. SERIES.
and direderp
I started watching a couple months ago, so im still not upset about the 9x9s yet. Besides, its a very efficient design anyways, just not appealing to the eyes.

I really like the jump cut at 16:10 from a recipe you are looking up to a recipe you are crafting, very nice.
Tip/reminder for dire and other players:
Put pistons in your dark boots, empower them and carry a battery (I'm doing a double battery) with you. Life becomes so much nicer! (This was in response to dire saying how he sometimes misses flight while pillaring up to fix wiring)

Dura was here once travel anchors suck at vertical this is just a nicerexperience
blooddragonofdeath how do they "suck at vertical"? I've had no problems with them in the past.
I use travel anchors in this pack for this use just fine.
Weeaboo
Here's a tiny thing that makes a difference. Make corners of the base log pillars. And also for elevator, travel anchors do it when they are place above each other
The travel anchor from enderio works as an elevator. No cheaty adding things to the pack needed!
So proud of you for making the base look nicer. Doesn't matter if it looks the same as last time at least to me.
Dire. Don't worry about making the base look pretty. Just keep up that crazy technical building we all know you for.
Ender IO travel anchors support sneaking/jumping to ones directly below/above.
Dire - don't let them shame you into making things fancy. That isn't your thing. You automate cool stuff.
eh i kind of like the wiring in machine area the way it is, looks like canopy based around each of the relays on the ceiling. looks nifty.
Makes an axe, breaks the floor with a torch.. yup it's Dire!
Consider using an AA crusher for general ore processing, rather than the macerator. It's really not too expensive at this point in the tech tree, and is much faster than the macerator - and it has a chance for bonus dusts with some ores.
Macerator can take speed upgrades though, but the AA crusher can't
For now, though, he doesn't have overclocker upgrades either, and getting access to them is rather more complicated than making a crusher. If it's even possible...I can't see a recipe for coolant in JEI, and I'm not sure if it's because of IC2 doing its "hiding recipes" thing or because the recipe has genuinely been removed.
coolant cells are doable the moment you hit the industrial age.
But the SAG mill is better then both
And he can make both a SAG Mill and make capacitators for it to run faster. It should be "doable" to make 3 sag mills and 3 alloy smelters and automate ore doubling.
The Lumberaxe does a 3x3x3 if the piece you are breaking is connected to more then 8 pieces of wood.
I JUST said I wanted to watch a direwolf20 episode. 3 minutes ago its released thank you.
Hey direwolf, you can make enriched gold directly from gold ore in your stone separator.
Someone once told me I tell terrible puns and that I should go eat some fertiliser.
I said "Sorry, I don't have the apatite for that right now"
You do what you do, love your videos. Also, I don't watch modded minecraft for the building. Great vid as always
I really wish certain blocks from eg RFTools had been given recipes more friendly to the early game; the elevator is nice and stylish, but not worth the expense of multiple RFTools machine frames until you're absolutely swimming in resources. I really enjoy your 9x9s, and don't want you to change, Dire :)
EnderIO Travel Anchor would let you do the jump up and down thing. Just make those.
“25 MILLION RF/TICK”
What is this, a rainbow generator?
You can put hopper conveyors next to the canola planter or covered hopper conveyors to not pick up the canola.
Display stands and the empowerer can be automated with hoppers for diamond, lapis and redstone while you sleep
You can take energy conduits directly out of the kinetic generator on the water wheel so no need for the MV wires
for that 3x3 glass window, you should try using NeoTech's Phantom glass as it is completely clear and you can walk through it.
Dire, for future reference, the TC felling axe cuts in a 3x3x3 cube.
@Direwolf20 Ender IO anchors work as a jump up/down elevator without having to look at em, and they're not that expensive.
The lumber axe actually mines in a 3x3x2, unlike the hammer. That's why the drawer was broken.
Dire, if you run IE dropper conveyor belts out of the garden cloche, they'll deposit in the drawers automatically.
I recommend you putting the garden cloche downstairs
Another great passive power option is the immersive engineering thermoelectric generator use uranium blocks and ice for crazy rf/t and its passive and doesn't consume resources
The basement floor/walls should be a concrete of some kind.
Just realized I've been watching you since 1.4.5, since Ars Magica 1. Wondering how many other viewers have been watching that long
me
I've been watching since the 1.2.5 days with Equivalent Exchange 2 and such (FTB Pyramid map, Tekkit. Those days). I've watched his entire back catalog, however, so I've seen his LP's with the original Thaumcraft and IndustrialCraft (the original, good one. Not the new IC2-Ex, aka mini-Gregtech)
Yeah i think i first watched season 2 live then watched his back log when advanced machines was an IC add on.
hahah that zombie noise right after killing one and sleeping to prevent it.
Dire; not sure if you know but the calculator mod machines will accept EU power as well - I run mine off the Glass Fibre cables just fine.
Reallllly. i did not know that. The more you know.
Why don t u place glowstone in the middle of the floor and place torch around the room?
Don't ender io travel anchors work as elevators
andrew foley yes but expensive elevators
Pretty sure the point of this pack is to make things you normally take for granted harder. He's totally at the tech level to make them, it just takes some effort.
Deraken good point
About the base design
1) it dies bother me that it is the same
2) but since you gave the explanation and that's the style you like....then whatever floats your boat. 8)
I see the oil is making a return hope we get to see other power sources eventually
crazy wizard73 yea maybe something different like automating a culinary generator, I currently have my base powered off 4 culinary gens (using baguettes each with 2 speed upgrades) and a tier 2 environmental tech solar passively as well as a windmill and waterwheel and when I need large amounts of energy I have a setup like from his last series for melons and 2 diesel generators

am i the only one thinks that dires base is faboulous
Dire, the Tinker's broad axes always mined a 3x3x3 cube, not just a 3x3 area :P
7:40 the reason the drawer broke is that you are using a lumber axe, doing 3x3 and above
dire the lumber axe does 3x3x3 not 3x3x1
17:58 This is a vibrant capacitor bank, not a rainbow gen.
Dire look into ic2 wood scaffold it's very useful for early game getting too high places
@direwolf the lumber axe does a 3X3X3 area
Direwolf logic: Makes a nifty elevator using rfTools... Proceeds to use staff of traveling to enter & exit basement... ~(-_-)~ meh, whatevz...
Y'know the laser relays from AA are available and use the vanilla recipe...
I hope these mods and such are avaible on the launcher.. Seems fun!
The lumber axe is not 3x3x1 unless that was changed its usually 3x3x3
lol the Lumber axe breaks in a 3x3x3 area the blocks your pointing at plus 2 layers behind :P
I prefer the large cobblestone tiles from chisel myself
Hey dire - you should put an enderman head on a wall - expect a spooky result.
There's no point in making that now, as his base cannot produce that much RF/T to warrant it. It's a waste of resources to do.
U should use the ore washer after them macerator u get more out of ores
I have not yet seen Direwolf build upwards...
Wait, I have, but it was because of Soaryn
Even when something good happens... blame Soaryn.
I didnt even make a base I just build everything in the mining dimension ... constant sun there so no mobs and solar arrays work great
I wouldn't consider the lumberaxe incident a direderp. I've had similar happen to me with them. Once I have the ability, I upgrade the dark steel axe. that thing is a beast!
Its actually intended (albeit un-intuitive) functionality. The lumber axe harvests a 3x3x3 area. Not a plane.
Adam Roy
Yeah I realized it afterwards. least mine was wood floors replacement and not a drawer full of canola 😂
Why isn't that elevator mod in your modpack?
Has anyone seen some of the 1.12 mods they changed a lot of stuff especially in environmental tech
anyone know where to find the world 30 download?
when he said 25 mil he sounded like Kermit the frog
Any chance for world downloads Dire?
"shh, quite I am crafting here" 13:11
I'll like the wood better in an episode or two, or if you give it an edge...
Diretime!!
Dire has a really weird definition of "cool" and "looks nice".
Lumber ax breaks a 3 by 3 by 3 cube.
using quartz in block form is faster quartz glass and quicker
Chisel, not Chisel and bits!
am I the only one that finds it weird to the a 3x3 of flax doesn't make wool
Lumberaxes break TREES, not in a 3*3 fashion
Do people even complain about direwolf's 9x9s anymore?
Lumber Axe breaks 3x3x3
direwolf20 the type of person to have a hammer that's breaks 3×3 and break 3×3 with his pickaxe lol
I'm one of the few people that believes grass is the best floor material in minecraft
you know you can use a travel anchor as an elevator to go up and down.... cmon dire....
youtube gaming shows this video as Age of Empires.
i smell let's play power generation basement but probably not with SCM
The broad axe is a 3x3 cube silly
For that elevator mod: Did you change it's recipes to fit it in the pack somewhere?
He added it to the pack and made no changes. In other words he cheated here. Because the only thing that is somewhat the same is the travel anchor which is a bit more expensive and it works the same (with some additions).
At his current tech level, a pair of travel anchors is trivial. So its all moot anyway.
18:02 No thats not a Rainbow gen
Timings!
it's gotten to the point where any time i'm wondering what dire actually looks like, i just imagine steve's face
help
Everyone PANIC dire cheated, oh no, he added a mod that sped him up right into the last age!!! OHHHH NOOOO!!!!
Calm down people, It was just an Elevator (yes, I know he could use Travel Anchors... But what does that even matter? All it does is gets him up/down in far less time than a ladder would)

Lumber Axes break in a 3x3x2 plane.. not 3x3x1
are void miners available in this pack? if so you may want a few.
in my ftb beyond world I use 7 void ore miners 3 resource miners 5 quantum quarries and 3 rf builders. that doesn't fully supply my needs.
What are you doing with all those resources? The most I've built is 2 void miners (full speed upgrades) and had more than I could use. Always try to find some resource intensive projects to use the stuff but usually don't make a dent in it.
CALCulator, not KAKulor. Enori, not Eñori. REstonia, not REDstonia.
Oh, and just in case botania is in this pack, it's GourmaRYLLis, not GourmaLAYis.
He does say calculator.
And it's WAH-ter, not WAR-ter lol.
Like really just stfu and watch
M0R7IS nah.
You sound like Hermione Grainger.
At least is better than dirt ;P
