Who else was screaming at their screen when dire didn't check out the recipe for the small storage crate and kept claiming that the metal former doesn't require any diamonds or a compressor
just a tip to get a jumpstart on resources > put a tank on an open side of a smeltery drain and changed the attached side to push and put 2 lava buckets in it, wait for it to go in then put 2 water in it and let it go in. should make 2 blocks worth of Obs., use clay to make a clay sharpening kit mold and make a Obs. sharpening kit. Puts the tool at Cobalt mining level.
@dire, quick tip. the shield can block more than just skeleton arrows, it just happens to deflect those. it can block all incoming sources of physical damage, including explosions.
Fun tip: the tinker's crafting table has access to the adjacent coke oven's inventory slots. That's what the 4 inventory slots off to the left were. You can put your bucket in from the table to refill it.
Dire, move your ender io tank of lava under your smeltery tank, you can set it to push the lava up into it, that way you won't have to worry about transporting via buckets constantly.
There actually is another path of progression that requires much less iron: First build a block cutter, which can cut blocks of metal into 9 plates (as efficient as a metal former does) and than build the other stuff including the metal former which you still want, but you will save on resources that way.
The tinkers seared furnace is a great way to bulk smelt items :) especially early game in this pack. Just macerate the ore and throw them into the seared furnace and they smelt for the cost of a little lava
Uh... Soaryn elementals tend to have negative side effects on your playthrough. Random chests placed around the world, coming back to find your pack half completed for you, etc.
EnderIO Fluid Tank is an easy way to pump out lava from the smeltery drain and output out of its bottom to the seared basin. In fact you don't even need the smeltery as the tank itself can hold the lava and pump to the basin, after that attach a hopper to the bottom of basin and you're good to go with the pack's first automation challenge.
34:30 Dire: I have never had such bad luck. Me: This is a normal amount of luck for me. At least you normally get worlds where you don't have to walk several hundred blocks in any given direction to find a single rubber tree.
5:45 - no, you don't need to click it 52 times, you need to put a tank of lava beside your basin set to push lava in, and a hopper under your basin. Then walk away and do something else while it makes your lavawood for you. You need to be thinking of how to automate *everything* in this pack (and there are always ways & means) or you'll be in for some serious frustration.
@direwolf20 You know, the EnderIO Fluid Tank you're using can automatically output to the casting basin :) Just plop it on top of the basin, and set the output side of the tank to bottom. You'd still want 2 hoppers, 1 for inserting the wood to the basin, other to pull the finished product out of the bottom though, but no filling the whole smeltery with lava and messing about with redstone clocks.
16:28 crafting table is being "smart" and the 4 slots on the left are related to the 4 slots in the coke oven. 1st - coal in, 2nd - coke out, 3rd - bucket in, 4th - bucket out. aka could have just put bucket in 3rd slot it would have filled and moved to 4th slot and then you could have added to craft without going between cokeovens gui and crafting gui 3-4 times.
ender io tanks will pull from the coke over any where you put it as long as it is touching it and you configure the tank to pull from the side the coke over is on
gold and iron ore needed for making the two small storage crates, 36 gold ingots and 36 iron ingots, used in a compressor for making the two compressed plates per crate
Dire, once you get enough steel and machines you can create the enori crystals and make yourself a drill with some upgrades. makes resource gathering so much easier.
I have used both. I was just hoping that they upgraded the amount of storage in the first crate since it requires 2 diamonds and so much gold and iron.
Rubber "nodes" take as long to "regrow" as the entire tree. What I usually do is tap the nodes for all its worth, then chop down the tree and plant a new one. If it's gonna take as long anyway, I might as well get 3-5 times more rubber out of each trip.
The funniest thing for me is that drains have two outputs when its's on a corner, and he kept building more instead of just using more faucets :) So we all learn!
How long has dire been using tinkers? the moment he used an iron ingot to make his cast was just painful. Also the storage crate needs one compressed gold and iron plate as well as two diamonds.
Totally screaming a the screen wanting DireNoob20 to click the crate recipe and see not only the 4 diamonds ARE needed but also 36 gold ingots to make 2 compressed gold plates and the less difficult iron for compressed iron plates. I have just about gotten the 1st steel ingot and I am seriously wondering what Dire has gotten us into. I see much pain in our future.
I'm now at age 10 and STILL struggling with gold despite having a builder making huge holes in the mining DIM. Guide tells me to make a quantum miner, looks at recipe. Much more diamonds required. Question remains What has @Direwolf20 gotten us into?
Combat in MC got less responsive when they changed single player to run on a local server. I remember when the change happened creepers became harder to fight. It might also account for getting hit if you leave it too late to put up your shield. It's like single player constantly runs with a few milliseconds of server lag.
gunpowder + Flint = ELFN? I think it's called it's from tinker's construct and it realllllllyyyyy helps with mining, it's like a throw able tnt that does not destroy ores or gems.
I've been messing around and seems silver is a better material for a sword than bronze. does slightly more damage + has increased damage to undead (from holy). silver also seems to be the better tool.binding (+ more holyness)
Direwolf20 i have played the pack and noticed the shield thing as well. the problem isn't that your bringing it up in time is that you need to keep it up for about half to a full second after the hit. IDK whats causing that but that is the problem.
I totally want to know how you go about power gen with industrialcraft. I had a lot, and I really mean A LOT of troubles powering up to the point I cold make steel at a descent rate because of all of the machines you need to have some stability.
Yeah, I ended up with 4 windmills (not placed very high) and about 32 watermills just to keep the blast furnace going. When ever I was doing other stuff I had to supplement my power with coal gens.
make a battlesign instead of a shield. if you make it of wood, you'll never need to repair it because it'll heal itself plenty fast compared to how often it gets used.
FYI, I've sen you do this a few times, and I'm 99% sure that you don't need to use a metal ingot to make an ingot cast. You can use a seared brick instead, save the valuable resource.
Lack of Fast Leaf Decay is annoying a bit, but don't add it to the pack. It messes with trees from Calculator mod. I don't know if you intended to add this mod, but wanted to warn you anyway.
Too bad the metal former requires toolboxes, which require small storage crates, which require 2 diamonds each.... I really want to use storage crates, but that is so expensive for early game!
Geez, this comment section looks like Game Grumps' today. Losing the iron ingot to make the cast was no big deal, and he'll find out sooner or later that he needs more diamonds.
If you dont use the blocking ability of the sword its worth try out the jumping one.. it increases early game mobility insanely and allows jump over bigger holes. also the damage increase when jumping is really helpful. Maybe woth a try to do something else then the usual boring standard sword..
"look at dat fanciness!" places a cobblestone with a torch on top of it. Perfect!
Who else was screaming at their screen when dire didn't check out the recipe for the small storage crate and kept claiming that the metal former doesn't require any diamonds or a compressor
Ya I was screaming at screen too
omg me to
Toke K.L. Hehe yup, went to comment, first post is yours ATM!
direwolf probably doesn't know how hard this pack gets because of most recipes being changed.
yup. Can't wait till he finds out that doozy. lol
just a tip to get a jumpstart on resources > put a tank on an open side of a smeltery drain and changed the attached side to push and put 2 lava buckets in it, wait for it to go in then put 2 water in it and let it go in. should make 2 blocks worth of Obs., use clay to make a clay sharpening kit mold and make a Obs. sharpening kit. "I do officially have enough diamonds"... oh, I can't wait *insert evil grin here*
@dire, quick tip. the shield can block more than just skeleton arrows, it just happens to deflect those. it can block all incoming sources of physical damage, including explosions.
A redstone clock needs redstone? :o Shocker!
18:03 I expected the 'YAAAAAAAY' sound from invasion
Can you not just use a seared brick or a normal brick etc to pour the aluminium brass around to make the ingot cast?
Thought so. I guess Dire didn't get that memo.
sixfreekazoos yup he coulda used seared brick, brick, any ingot and not waste he iron.
iron is cheep but you do have a point. at least he saved gold in the casts
Not at this stage of the game it isn't!
That recipe is actually removed from this pack, I tried when i started it.
Fun tip: the tinker's crafting table has access to the adjacent coke oven's inventory slots. That's what the 4 inventory slots off to the left were. You can put your bucket in from the table to refill it.
Lapis lazuli *IS* a gemstone. Also lovin' the series, keep up the good work Dire! 😄
Dire, move your ender io tank of lava under your smeltery tank, you can set it to push the lava up into it, that way you won't have to worry about transporting via buckets constantly.
Dire , you have a flat , eternal day dimension you could build your farms and base in.
How he just ignores the small storage crate's recipe :)
To be fair, diamonds for a storage crate is a pretty cruel thing to do.
yea diamonds and a compressed gold and compressed iron which are 9 ingots each :\. I used soo much iron in this age.
Even more without the Metal Former itself.. so 18 iron >
Sombra:I might need this later
Dire:We might move this later
34:11 that flick to get that leaf was on point lmao
Hey Dire! If you need an early game way of chopping down trees faster, as well as mining faster, you should get a Pahimar!
but how does one craft that?
You can't craft him, you need a equivalent exchange ;)
two pieces of dirt and a flower
@Tzisorey Tigerwuf Dude, wouldn't it be better to just summon a Soaryn elemental and make him do it?
Uh... Soaryn elementals tend to have negative side effects on your playthrough.
Random chests placed around the world, coming back to find your pack half completed for you, etc.
Did anyone see when he was getting creosote buckets and the crafting station had the interface to do it lol

Me: This is a normal amount of luck for me. At least you normally get worlds where you don't have to walk several hundred blocks in any given direction to find a single rubber tree.
It has been a while since I raised my voice at a monitor....but yeah, this morning Dire had me yelling "Click the dam CREATE!!!" lol
5:45 - no, you don't need to click it 52 times, you need to put a tank of lava beside your basin set to push lava in, and a hopper under your basin. Oh no, you've removed all the sand from the river! Pahimar is not going to be happy.
16:28 crafting table is being "smart" and the 4 slots on the left are related to the 4 slots in the coke oven. 1st - coal in, 2nd - coke out, 3rd - bucket in, 4th - bucket out.
aka could have just put bucket in 3rd slot it would have filled and moved to 4th slot and then you could have added to craft without going between cokeovens gui and crafting gui 3-4 times.
he doesn't realise that you have access to the liquid input and output for the coke oven when using the tinkers crafting table set next to it.
I was thinking the same thing, just had to see if anyone commented on it first. :p
ender io tanks will pull from the coke over any where you put it as long as it is touching it and you configure the tank to pull from the side the coke over is on
gold and iron ore needed for making the two small storage crates, 36 gold ingots and 36 iron ingots, used in a compressor for making the two compressed plates per crate
Thx Direwolf for playing my favorite pack - AoE!
Love this series direwolf!
Dire, once you get enough steel and machines you can create the enori crystals and make yourself a drill with some upgrades. makes resource gathering so much easier.
Creepers want hugs. But when the get close, they realize they can't hug you. Thus they explode in anger.
Using multiple drains and basins like that was pretty smart.
the lava wood part was oddly satisfying
DIRE: look at recipe for the crate that you love so much
go in to mod options find "The one probe" select it press configure look for "BoxTopY change to 1" it will set it to top center
in the start of every series you see dire with every tool 20 episodes in the series he uses a pick to mine wood and some times dirt
He needed a Thermal Foundation Excavator rather than that shovel to help him flatten the terrain
Quartz Grindstone is a must have for me early game. You got Certus Quartz Crystals, should be easy from there.
THIS IS SUCH A GOOD SERIES PLS FOCUS FOR LIEK A WEEK PLS
The storage crate recipe is evil
It's a HUGE inventory, though. Have you seen it yet?
Zack Bond How huge? I didn't wanna make one because if it was like the normal storage crate then it would be a waste.
DH Holy have you ever used iron chests? the small storage crate is equivalent to the diamond chest more or less
I have used both. I was just hoping that they upgraded the amount of storage in the first crate since it requires 2 diamonds and so much gold and iron.
DH Holy to be fair is only slightly more expensive than a diamond chest, excluding the need to make a compressor
Rubber "nodes" take as long to "regrow" as the entire tree. What I usually do is tap the nodes for all its worth, then chop down the tree and plant a new one.
If it's gonna take as long anyway, I might as well get 3-5 times more rubber out of each trip.
just out of curiosity, how much playtime went into this episode? just appreciate the work you put into episodes :) it's what keeps me watching
very nice method of making the lavawood =) i grinded it out with just one basin =P
The funniest thing for me is that drains have two outputs when its's on a corner, and he kept building more instead of just using more faucets :)
So we all learn!
Pouring lava over wood: Such a good idea!
I thought you had to leave the column of rubber tree leaves at the top of the tree in order for the resin spots to regrow.
If you use broadsword you can use a battle sign as a shield i prefer cactus handle and a steel head for the shield
How long has dire been using tinkers? the moment he used an iron ingot to make his cast was just painful. Also the storage crate needs one compressed gold and iron plate as well as two diamonds.
thelordofsticks a long time (not sure if ur being rhetorical or not)
eva 2020 don't feed the troll, feed the beast!
hes referring to the point that most people use a clay brick since creating the cast consumes the material.
its as Siipher said, wasting an iron ingot this early in the modpack is a bad idea as you need alot to actually make IC2 machines.
Doesn't work for this pack.
If your going to do a diagonal mine shaft...... MAKE STAIRS! lol... you're a long way from automating ore mining, it's worth the investment
Ocker Spock holy crap 36 gold, dammmm
I'm now at age 10 and STILL struggling with gold despite having a builder making huge holes in the mining DIM. Guide tells me to make a quantum miner, looks at recipe. Much more diamonds required. Question remains What has @Direwolf20 gotten us into?

It's not bad luck Dire. The trees are getting their revenge! #conspiratreetheory
gunpowder + Flint = ELFN? I think it's called it's from tinker's construct and it realllllllyyyyy helps with mining, it's like a throw able tnt that does not destroy ores or gems.
You can use seared brick to make an ingot cast

wind Turbine + 2 windmills will be enough.
make a battlesign instead of a shield. if you make it of wood, you'll never need to repair it because it'll heal itself plenty fast compared to how often it gets used.
I think you can get creosote oil bucket from crafting station.
I remember the old mud brick looking Coke Oven.
FYI, I've sen you do this a few times, and I'm 99% sure that you don't need to use a metal ingot to make an ingot cast. You can use a seared brick instead, save the valuable resource.
Dire plays for a couple of hours and is already near me.
Funny how battlesigns are actually better than shields since they reflect projectiles
Dire obviously hasn't looked at what is required for the tool forge ;)
31:40 Hungry like the WOOOOLLLFFFF
Personally, I would make a home within the Mining Age. Never need to worry about the darkness or having to sleep, win/win.
some one else said if u ever try to sleep in the mining age the bed will blow up like u tried to sleep in the nether
No dark, who needs sleep lol....
I saw the title and i was thinking direwolf is playing age of empires?
silver hilt for holy, you are hunting skeletons!
Question - does anyone know the name of the mod that looks like waila? And how to move it from centre left to top of screen?
Ocker Spock The One Probe. There’s a crafteable “config paper” in the game.
just type /topcfg
Thank you both
Lack of Fast Leaf Decay is annoying a bit, but don't add it to the pack. It messes with trees from Calculator mod. I don't know if you intended to add this mod, but wanted to warn you anyway.
"I was just going to do this off camera, but..."
I feel like this series would've been a good one to do with Pahimar
Also, there may have been some coding put in to mess with Rubber Tree Node Spawns.
Cant you use one of the grout cooked bricks instead of an iron ingot for the ingot cast?
If you had a hatchet from tinkers construct you'd be able to chop leaves faster Direwolf20
Hoper can be crafted with iron to
I wonder who's not going to be the next lottery winner XD
Can't rubber trees just be left to generate more resin nodes?
Anyone figured out how to move the waila like thing, 'the one probe', to the top?
Battle signs can be used as shields fyi
anyway , only for me making the blast furnace is freaking painful ?
Dire, you animal!!! That poor pig...
aren't you able to ore double with the grindstone from ae2
As dire learned, the grindstone from AE2 is not available in this pack.
12:33 WELCOME TO MY MINE WE ARE MINING DIAMONDS
#Diretime
take a look at the hopper recipe again dire you can use iron
armor power you can't, I put the recipe in with iron, and nothing happened.
??? why would they change a vinalla recipe if so far only the modded ones are changed
armor power I dont know, but iron does not work.
how did he not find any Redstone i have 2 stacks of Blocks of Redstone and i have just progressed a bit more then him
This series needs Pahimar
I didn't mind him using iron for the ingot cast, for what it's worth. It's not like super pro minecrafter moves, but it's fine. :P
what about bronze wolf 20?
Too bad the metal former requires toolboxes, which require small storage crates, which require 2 diamonds each.... I really want to use storage crates, but that is so expensive for early game!
Diretime!!
Geez, this comment section looks like Game Grumps' today. Losing the iron ingot to make the cast was no big deal, and he'll find out sooner or later that he needs more diamonds.
An Octorok
If these guys rip their dicks over those problems im worried what would happen if they watched the yogscast lets plays
Are you living in a 9x9 area?
If you dont use the blocking ability of the sword its worth try out the jumping one.. it increases early game mobility insanely and allows jump over bigger holes. also the damage increase when jumping is really helpful. Maybe woth a try to do something else then the usual boring standard sword..
AND ONCE AGAIN Dire uses Bronze to make a "better" Sword.... that does the same damage as a Stone one and costs a heck ton more resources
Whats the mod that allows you to claim chunks?
San Which ftb utilities
DireTime!
On my first trophy i brocket it with a pickaxe ( mining level obsidian ) and it broke, like gone forever. I cant find a way to get it back aswell D:
fuzz buzzy Can you cheat it in? It's an item after all.
DireTime! :)
