Rotary Engine Explained: How Do Ports Work?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 тра 2017
- Rotary engines like the 13B found in the Rx7 rely on ports to deliver air to the combustion chamber, you modify these ports to make power. Matt goes over how port timing works given each port be it a streetport, bridgeport, or any sort of port.

Can you guys do a video on basic rotary maintenance? Like what to do daily, monthly, yearly, what to watch out for and what to expect. That would be super helpful.
oil/filter changes every 5,000km. places say to use royal purple but it is JUNK. but oil opinions are everywhere. I used mobil 1 with zero issues but they say not to use REAL synthetics so a refined mineral (group 3 are fine) but a PAO/Ester like redline, mobil1, motul v300 they say to avoid. never had issue but that is there. so to be safe use a group 3 synthetic
if you run B9/10 plugs every 5,000km needs changing or the standard plugs last 10-15K
thats about it man. its no diff to a normal engine.
you do have to top up the oil about 100mls a week as it uses some oil and mremixes it with fuel to add lubrication so that is the only big difference.
Hello guys just discovered your channel, we are planning to be a Rx7 13b bridge port. Very factual information and it has helped us on the search. love the content! you guys deserve a lot more credit! looking forward to the upcoming videos keep it up.
Awesome channel!
Nice explanation, had to rewind it twice for the shiba inu because we had one for 16 years he past away though 💯👍👍👍
Fascinating engine
Hey dude I really need help, I just had a act clutch installed and my flywheel resurfaced and the pedal now is crazy soft and it catches almost by the floor. I tried adjusting it but no matter what the catch point doesn't really raise much. Is it normal for a new clutch to catch lower? To be softer? And what are factory specs for the pedal?
nice
the word explosion is forbidden! it's a controlled combustion.
You are correct sir lol. Speaking off the head with no script.
Fun video, there are 2 explosions or power strokes per revolution of the eccentric shaft on a standard 13b.. so 9500 rpm = 19000 power strokes 😅👍🏼
BUT A 6-cylinder 2-stroke engine has 6 power strokes per crankshaft rotation.
At 9,500 rpm that is 57,000 power strokes per minute.
since we are about porting. How do you think Mazda is going to make the new rotary engine for the upcoming RX-9 to have some form of a starting/stopping built into the engine?
since we all know the intake, compression, combustion and exhaust is still happening. In a normal engine the engine will just simply turn off. But there are no valves to speak off in a rotary engine, unless they employ some sort of valve before the ports.
That idea went to the bin.
Mazda recently applied for a patent

Even though rotaries have a lot of problems, it still just amazes me how Wankel engines work. I hope Mazda can improve their engines and finally bring an RX-9 to production. I know AIE is also working on Wankel rotaries too, so let's hope they bring some rotary action as well
so i had this amazing offer to buy an rx8 foor 600 euro, the only thing wrong with it is the compression. could you make a video on how te rebuild a renisis 13b
as a aspiring mechanical engineer, what automotive colleges / university's do you suggest?
A garage haha
:p

Dog: "Rotors suck."
the later port timing on street port... what really gives u?
anyone have any tips about making power on the rx8 😐
Swap the engine. Or build for turning.
Rotors Magazine ayy thanks

Isn't this video already up?
ok so I cant find it, but I SWEAR I've seen this before. I remember dude coming in saying penis, the dog, using light from cell phone...all of it.
Ok, this is really getting to me now. I know I've seen this damn video somehow, someway. This is dumb.
Yes, had to make some minor edits.
Ok, that explains a lot. I'm not going crazy.
need to hear some braps on this channel
Coming soon. We're assembling another 3 rotor :)

Can you sell your template
Rich idle makes the brap brap noise not the port configuration
No. Overlap causes the noise.
Kenny McKee so bigger port, more brap? Will a stock port still brap? I’m brand new to rotaries
Bp, PP, large extend port, will brap on idle
The camera man desperately needs some lessons. Tripod and manual focus!
and since im first can you PLEASE tell me how to convince my american muscle loving step dad that i should get a rotary
Just because you're first to comment on a video? Hah.
Shook has the proper advice.
don't forget the last step, rebuild 😅
What's wrong with a muscle car those are fun too?
Lol
PENUSSSS!!!!
