I can remember watching these lock thru when I was a little girl. Being an adult, I still like to watch them lock thru!!! Thank you for sharing!

I will never forget my first time locking through 19 with a full tow(15 barges). I was north bound at night and that chamber is monolithic, almost terrifying. Its 1 of only 3 locks on the Mississippi that has a 1200' chamber and is one of the largest elevation changes of all 29 locks on the Upper Miss. Upper St Anthony lock being the largest at 49'.
Since both upper and lower St Anthony locks have been closed since 2015 to prevent the spread of the Asian carpet, I'm not sure those count anymore. I am one of the few people who can say they have been through all 29 locks on the Mississippi River. Even among towboaters, that is rare.

Must have been a great experience for you navigating those huge locks and i'm sure you have had an amazing career. Please forgive me though, i don't know what the 'Asian carpet' means?
      Thank you.

@@tilerman 😂 spell-check. Suppose to be Asian carp. It’s an invasive species of fish most commonly seen on the Illinois river. Look for it on YT

I worked for Ashland Oil and Refinery in late 1957-60 on the WICHESTER. We ran the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers from Pittsburg to Cairo and St Paul to well below New Orleans. Great job. Great company to work for.
