timmo491 you know it irritated me at first but actually the electronic method of checking is way cleaner and easier. Don’t even have to get out of the car and get oil on your fingers.
@@BIMMERZEITT its irritated me a lot plus its not accurate. You can sometimes get a bunch of error readings indicating low oil or oil pressure problem, or the oil level sensor failing where the only way to figure out if there is enough oil is to drain it and measure how much by hand. Its a useless bmw quirk like having everything made of plastic under the bonnet which degrades with engine heat and eventually fails.
I found this video because I could NOT believe there is no DIPSTICK on a 328i I planned to buy tomorrow - WHAT A JOKE - as a result I will NEVER buy a BMW - enjoy those plastic engine POSs
Cool video. I've never had that feature explained before, well done. Myself, I have to lift the hood, gaze at my inline 6 for a minute, find a piece of pristine white cloth and pull out a long oil dipstick and lay the dirty end onto the white starched cloth carefully and look at the markings at the end of the dipstick. LOL I'm kidding about the starch...:)
does your fluctuate while you are driving ? I have an e85 with this kind of digital dipstick and when i run the car to temperature while sitting still in the parking lot ( flat ground ) the oil level goes to full and it reads OK, but if i check the level after driving around for a while, the level fluctuates - even going to the last 2 out of 5 levels. thanks !
Hi, Guys. Fred here from Brazil wiht a BMW 325i 2011 with a N52 engine. Any problem if my oil level is in Max level? Recently I noticed that level was around mininum and I completed with 6100 Motul. And then the level is in Max, not above Max. Any problem?
Lisa Herrera hi Lisa, good question. Warm up the car first and then check the level. Turn the car off and fill as needed. Do not fill while the car is running or on.
why would my 2007 BMW X5 si not have the oil selection light? Just bought it yesterday. I need to check my oil, but no option on this for oil??? strange
Beware your oil level sensor may have failed. Also must check with oil warm as it expands at operating temp. Overfill of oil can cause damage to your exhaust system and cats.
This video was really helpful, now I can check this stuff without calling a technical guy.
Thank you so much. Went through so many vids about this you made the best point "let the car warm up 1st." Thank you again
No dipstick is one of the worst car design blunders ever.

My question is when putting oil in is the car suppose to be off or on

Might be different if you have i-drive and a navigation screen. Check the vehicle info menu.
WOW - this video saved me from buying my first BWM tomorrow - good luck, damn nothing more critical than manually checking the oil
my car was e90 320d 2011, when i use BC button it always show OK not the engine oil level bar...seems like my car oil level function not available?
I’m not getting a reading on my car it just keeps on spinning
What happens when you get to the Oil Screen and it says "Inactive" How do I activate this? Thanks
Hi did you manage to resolve the inactive problem of the oil on the dash I have the same problem
@@jacquesmouton1695 No I haven't. I replaced the oil sensor and I am still getting the Inactive notification.

@@BIMMERZEITT how does this method prevent overfilling oil though?
Nope, the dipstick is still present on e90 2010 LCI

Thank you
