I'm happy to see that the old railway rights-of-way have been re-purposed as biking and hiking trails. Still, it's kind of sad that the railways are gone.
We agree, nothing beat seeing the area by rail. At least we have a gem of a rails to trails to enjoy for many years. Thank you for watching and commenting, much appreciated! Tom & Suzanne
Hi again, we'll repost the same info here: Yes, there are many places to swim along the rail trail accessing Kalamalka Lake between Oyama and Vernon. There's Kekuli Bay Park a provincial campground and boat launch that the rail trail passes through, bcparks.ca/kekuli-bay-park/ . If not on the rail trail, another great beach is located at the north east arm of Kalamalka Lake called Cosens Bay. Great for hiking www.google.com/maps/place/Cosens+Bay+Beach/@50.1960251,-119.2617469,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x537dddc05b35f09d:0xfff42ed8e6b02216!8m2!3d50.1960251!4d-119.2617469!16s%2Fg%2F11j94dll8_?hl=en&entry=ttu Enjoy and thanks for watching our video! Hi Jodi & Ron! Thank you for watching this one. We have heard that Lake Tahoe is similar to Kalamalka Lake colors. We hope to visit there in the future. We are so fortunate to have the Okanagan Lake ( 100 miles long ) and Kalamalka Lake ( 30 miles long ) so close to our home. The wineries and breweries up here are in abundance too. Hopefully we can meet up one day. Keep up the great work you two, we love your channel! See you on the next one, Tom & Suzanne. 👍
Good to see you out enjoying your bikes Tom & Suzanne. Have you heard anything about when the part of the railtrail between Lake Country and the airport will open? It will be wonderful to cycle all the way from Vernon to Kelowna without going on the hwy.
Hi L&R, thanks for watching this one. The most recent update for the closed section was simply that the 3 stakeholders ( Lake Country, Kelowna, and First Nations band ) were still working on a final draft of the land transfer from the Federal Government to Okanagan Indian Band. Once the transfer is complete, we believe as part of a joint venture, the rail trail development work will begin on the closed section. No date yet, however we do hope they can complete all before summer of 2024. It would make for sure a great adventure linking the rail trail in its entirety. Take care and see you on the next one!
