ABOUT LAZARET
Lazaret is an atmospheric first-person horror game. You play as a member of a rescue team called out to investigate a distress signal coming from a ship that disappeared 4 years ago.
One thing that makes being on a ship like this more eerie, there are constant noises from the ship itself. It can be difficult to discern what or where a noice is coming from
Indeed
Agreed. Also the fact that they can also be claustrophobic and there is no real escape as you are trapped on the ship unless you plan on jumping overboard.
or what is falling off.
The thing that truly makes ships infinitely more terrifying than a haunted house or castle or asylum or whatever, is that *there is nowhere to run.* You can't just break down a door or climb out a window, or call for help. You can't just 'get out.'
Especially if there is something in the water waiting for you.
A ship which is adrift, therefore whose engines are off, produces a whole lot of structural noise which are inaudible in normal times, even at the quay and they are quite distressing I would tell you.
And in the open sea it's even worse, because it is tossed about by the elements, a ship deforms when it passes through the waves, there are some rare videos on cargo ships in the middle of a storm with people filming the long passageways, that's this bend, this spin, this twist, all in a sound of scrap metal that squeaks and cracks.
therefore useless to have a Haunting on board, for the experience to be frightening.
or in a space ship like Nostromo, Sevastopol or Ishimura lol
I agree, I would love to see more claustrophobic horrors on ships tbh
Claustrophobic is a good way to describe that hellish ship!!! And the bar
As someone who was in the navy, all those boxes and propane tank just chillin on those shelves give me more anxiety then the monsters
One fire and the ships gone
@@fanndyeffendy2672 Big badaboom! Adios muchachos. 😄😁
@@fanndyeffendy2672 not only that but if the ship rocks in heavy winds/waves all that stuff is coming to the deck.
The Old Navy department store doesn’t count
Yeah unsecured stuff on a ship is asking for trouble..
There nothing scarier than when a horror game suddenly says “Shift to Run”
I don’t know, the prompt to “hide” is up there. Especially when it’s long before you see any enemies. You just know what’s in store.
Aye not as scary as it telling you the movement keys
@@deniseatkins9407nah not as scary as it telling you how to adjust the brightness to make a symbol just barely visible 😔
Agree 100%, that and the “hide” prompts.
crouch:
I worked security 3rd shift, at a ship repair yard. One of my obligations was to regularly patrol through the ship in drydock, and that was pretty unsettling at times. Its hard to describe the feeling, especially going through the dark areas of the ship with nothing but a flash light. Fortunately I wasn't totally alone, some of the crew were still living aboard the ship, but they were all in the forward house, my patrols took me to the engine room, and the aft house all of which was empty, as well as some really dark below deck berthings, and passages. It felt a lot like this game.
I imagine the worst part is knowing you wont run into anything supernatural or horrible... and yet that fact doesn't reassure you at all.
@@americancaesar6065I used to work night security at a Borg Warner facility. It was MASSIVE. My rounds were basically a deep dive into the dark and damp labyrinth that was the insides of the building. Lots of terrifying noises from automated machines combined with red lighting in other areas. It was like a horror game. When you are in the belly of the beast everything comes to mind, paranormal or not.
I know exactly what you mean.
I work in a large fabrication facility / warehouse and I'm often the last one to leave for the day. I have to set the alarm before leaving and people turn off everything as they leave but sometimes forget to close a door on their way out and the alarm won't set unless all the doors are closed. Its always a door on the other side of the facility so I have to make my way all the way there and back. Rusty equipment, pipes laying around, chains hanging, dirty rags thrown about, only minimal lighting on. Eerie is an understatement. One time someone had set up a mannequin to showcase some safety gear and I just happened to turn a corner and see it. I nearly had a heart attack.
Same, old unused hospital, I was the night guard. The posh management musty carpeted space was nothing but terrifying. No electricity. Just a torch.
Not quite the same, but I worked nights at a (big) old factory, and the job meant to sometimes being called to do stuff in different sites/lines/machines. During deslocating to those tasks, my mind sometimes got "lost" in the fact that some machines kept making noises/air pressure sounds/release air sounds/cranking/clinging/whatever. Some lights would randomly blink or simply some screens/buttons/panels would go on or off.
I knew what they were, but still.. At night, in a dark industrial setting, semi-silent zones get creepy.
I always appreciate how you add audio effects to match the environment you’re in. Really helps the viewing immersion. Almost like you’re really there, and we’re watching cam footage.
thank you, glad you enjoy it 😊
The reverb in the voice recording is just 😙👌
It'd be so cool if the dev could implement the player's mike in such a way.
@@mistingwolf You mean like built in atmospheric effects? That’s an intriguing idea.
@@valiantwarrior4517 Yeah. As an example, how Phasmophobia and such games use your mike to talk to the ghosts? Yeah, like that, but add the atmos effects to make it sound like you're in the ship. Then the player could actually whistle (if they can) into the mike to check for enemies. I think it'd add an extra layer of creepiness and immersion.
I really love how you change your microphone settings in certain positions of games, such as the feint echo. I've never seen anyone do that before. Its a nice touch.
I thought he got it from IGP, because he's been doing it for awhile.
Glock9 does it as well, whenever he jumps underwater he puts this hilarious underwater effect on his voice. Always cracks me up. 😂
Thank you! I've been doing it ever since I started. I was inspired by the alien movies and how whenever there was some kind of echo it always added a little more to the scene AND made you wonder just how big the ship or place they were was :)
@@YoSuey no lol
games such as this actually forces you to interact with what you fear. it singles out everything to one option and you have to commit to it regardless you're ready or not
That was a very promising demo. Well done to the devs, can’t wait to see you play the whole game!
Oh look who I found
😅 had me right there
this game looks like a remake of Monstrum. i wish Fooster plays it one day.
Love those games where your own dread of "what's going to happen next?" does the heavy lifting and then the game jumps in with its own jump scares and chase scenes to make it even scarier (as if that was needed). Thanks for playing these games so people like me who are too much of a scaredy-cat to actually play through them can still watch xD
What's with fooster all of a sudden playing all horror games. Such a brave boy 💪.
I took a little break from horror games but I found a few that I wanted to take a look at and then got a huge amount of suggestions from you guys!
"That's not run, that's a mild jog!!" Love how you can terrify me and crack me up in the same minute. Thank you for the great videos, Fooster
Hey, that's our ship that we lost 4 years ago!
Well go get it! I would recommend bringing sledge hammers tho as well as some heavy weaponry
Salvage rights apply. As long as Fooster gets it back to dock, you owe him….😂😂😂😂
Slappy boy? Is that really you?
Damnit, we thought you went down with the ship. We have been looking for months trying to find your body you bloody bastard.
@@WarriorLordOfAbyss small tactical nuke....
@@FenrirYT13 a fat man could work although using a fat man inside a building you have to be at least a little suicidal 😂
As soon as you started playing I immediately thought ghost ship. Then you said it. 😂 keep doing what you are doing sir. Hands down you are the best UA-camr. I can honestly say we don’t always come for the games but more for your storytelling and entertainment. You bring the games you play to life by throwing yourself into the full atmosphere of each game you play. It’s like watching a film with you as the main star.
This was a truly scary game! I love the whistle mechanics and watching Fooster double take the statues and flinch at every noise 😂. I also love that the boat actually makes you feel like you're on a decrepit ship swaying back and fourth in the water. The monster looked like it was one of those 1950's deep sea diving uniforms with its very own coral reef growing from its body.
You have to play this game when the full release comes out.
I second that motion!
Here’s something really scary
A real job
I love this guy man, really adds reverb and echo on his voice to make it more immersive love it
I loved it. The statues constantly moving sticking their heads out very scary great even for a demo just like the resident evil game back from PlayStation one.
Thanks very much Fooster.
I want to play this game when it comes out.
Fooster: "Hide. Oh no it's not one of those!" 😂
I love how Fooster keeps the immersion going with the echo effect he uses in his videos whenever he's in an environment where you'd expect to hear an echo, or the radio chatter when he's underwater. A true pro
I'm a new subscriber and I'm so happy I found your channel! Really enjoy watching your horror and survival series. Thanks for sharing, hope all is well ❤
Welcome to the club young lady,.. kick back and enjoy the ride we call Fooster lol.
Wait till you meet his brother fisk. 😁😁 The dynamic duo in youtube. 😁😁
Don't leave out taco and Olaf
@@mycatz2fatgaming wtf kick back 😂
I love the way Fooster yells at the thing that it moved, and does NOT ever break eye contact with them when he passes by, like “Don’t you do it!”
This game has a very well made horrific atmosphere, I found myself tense every second Fooster was walking through the ship, afraid that the moment he rounds a corner, turns around, or looks through one of the windows, there’s just gonna be somethin there 😭 I swear everything I am fearing he mentions like 10 seconds later
It’s always worth getting creeped out to watch a Fooster playthrough though!!❤
I've seen others play this and have always said I hope Fooster plays it!! Thank you sir!
Also congrats on surpassing 900k subs! Well deserved!
♥
The sound in this game is unreal. Very terrifying! That locker jump scare almost gave me a heart attack. I'm in the dark with headphones on.
I absolutely love a spooky ship setting. Thanks for playing this game!
name of game?
It says on the starting screen @@Videodirektor1
These games have never scared me, I find however that watching you play them makes my soul jump out of my body, thanks for letting me experience what the games are made for.
"IM CALLING IT RIGHT NOW - SOMEONE PISSED OFF THE OCEAN"
Didn't pay their dues 😂
This was by far the most interesting, exciting and scariest of all the videos that I have watched, of any horror game. I'll would've never been able to play this one by myself but you have encouraged me, man. Thank you for introducing me to this exceptional genre. Please keep em coming. Have a good one and most of all, stay safe ;)
Fooster, I love that you make this great content for us! Much love from the US! 👍
I would LOVE if the dev added more ambiance. Ships aren’t quiet below deck the metal creaks the halls bow and sway in the sea, air billows down the passageways and the windows pear into the void while machinery hums and moans. Also throughout ships they have emergence ladder wells that go from the BOTTOM to the top and they are curved due to how long they are. Also would be cool if the character stumbles with the swaying and can possibly fall down stairwells/ladder wells. Oh cool tiny note would be red and green lights for port and starboard plus deck and frame numbers to slightly help with knowing what’s where.
This is beautifully written. And I agree with everything you've mentioned. You MUST write, surely
Just keep doing whatever you're doing, We all love it. But YEAH "Try To Dive Into More Horror Games" love to see your pov on these kind of horror games and all.👍
Damn you people that wanna watch him play horror games. I'm getting sea sick bc my hands are shaking so hard while watching this video 😂
What a great concept. Reminds me of the event horizon movie but in the ocean. More horror games need to take place on ships
8:00 I cannot and I mean CANNOT stop laughing at this part where Fooster goes off. And that echo you have on your voice makes the game even that much more CRAZY
Fooster, you playing horror games is absolutely brilliant. Keep it up my friend.
the whistling is such a cool mechanic oh my god!! and very interesting world building… maybe the statues use the forms and “voices” of humans as a lure? very excited for the full release!!!
OMG this is terrifying even just watching you play it! My heart is pounding lol And that RUN is definitely a very slow jog 😂😂😮
this game could definitely already be considered a full game with this demo
You know what I’ve NEVER seen that I really want?…. You see the distant “enemy” walk across a hall, & when you get there he pops out from the same direction again 😅
The Alien from Sevastopol station told me to say Hi
Very good. Gave me chills up and down my spine every time I saw one of those "STATUES" looking around the corners or popping up where you least expected them. DAMN.
New subscriber: I really like the voice effects and I'm really liking the way you approach these scary games! This is fun!
I used to be a crew, I'm so scared of the vacant cabin beside mine. It feels like there's something dark in there whenever I alone clean the vacant cabin.
OMFG I've been waiting for you to play this game and having a bad start of the week just became so much better!!! Thank you fooster for all you do and absolutely love everything you upload!!!! Love the content and love the material!!! Hope fans and followers all share the same love and spread the word of this man!!! Absolutely amazing work!!!!
You really have a very amazing voice, not too loud to burst ears in a earphone, good British accent and a realistic tone to it.
These statues remind me of the weeping angels from doctor who, before they became angels. Except the only difference is these don’t send you back in time. Well done on the video! I hope you haven’t had any nightmares from playing all these games
Even though it wasn't needed, I like that you added an echo effect to your voice in order to make it seem like your in the environment.
Okay. When the full game releases, I'd love to see a full playthrough because it reminds me of Man of Medan and the movie Ghost Ship.
Edit: I'd like to suggest the game Fears to Fathom.
I hope so too, this looks so promising.
Boy, that game was bad ass n good. The vibe n atmosphere of it was astonishing n really scary! I can't wait to see u play the full release one.
I always love it when youtubers add echo to their commentary when they're in echo-y places
i like how you added some echo effect to the audio. makes it more immersive being in an old metal ship/boat. love your vids
This looks amazing yet terrifying at the same time, Will definitely be adding this to my list!, I see the same developers have another game called "The Door in the Basement" which is similar!
My gosh, not only did the game up the atmosphere, but so did you. This was CRAZY! Loved every second!
This looks absolutely amazing! I'm really hoping to see more of this for sure!😮
I love the cave voice you added. It made it so comforting and also creepy
Brilliant gameplay. You brought it to life like not many others can.
I only just found your videos, and you're a real treat to watch play these games. That said, as atmospheric as this game is, I REALLY can't stand "you can't fight back" type horror games, because they just tick me off so much. As you keep pointing out, your guy has a crowbar - WHY is he not allowed to whack things with it?!
This has a great amount of potential.
They did good.
very good.
I love horror games that are so good at giving you an anxiety attack.
Usually horror games don’t scare me anymore much when I watch someone play them but this one was genuinely scary
“I knew that was going to happen I knew… well I didn’t expect that?”
I was laughing so hard as soon as I seen that and considering how much horror stuff that I have seen I can confidently tell you I seen both of those things coming lol😂😂🤣🤣
His reactions are the reason I watch his videos 😂
@@tidesandmoon yeah and this is my first time ever seeing him play horror games and it’s a nice change of pace than what we usually see I wish he did more horror games
Same! This is also a first for me, I've watched some of his less horrific vids but this is pretty great.
having spent a week on a cruise ship that went through rough seas. i can attest to the rocking back and forth and the noise being eerie. even if you knew their were 9000 other people on board. at night most everyone was asleep. all the corridors and such empty bars empty everything empty only you and the sound of the engines and the creaking of the metal
When I first saw the main menu it instantly reminded me of Monstrum- another ship horror game.
HELLO! BROTHER!
that chase sequence at the end and the fact that you are on a ship gave me major Resident evil vibes
Watched this demo awhile ago, and thought it was so creepy, I loved it! So glad you’re checking it out 😊
Horror suggestions for the win ❤ Wondering if you ever will do a VR version of one of the horror games 🫣
I really like how your voice had an echo as you would have on such ship. Really nice touch Sir!
Geez this one made me genuinely uncomfortable!!!! It had a bunch of my worst fears all jammed in together and I hate it👀🤣
Great addition with the vocal change when the game started to give that slight echo in an empty boat sound
I love the setting of an abandoned ship; such a spooky place.
I agree we need more movies about them
2:09 we can sea the see. We can defiantly sea the see.
If you wanna keep the horror vibes going Amnesia:The Bunker just released. It's a shorter game in the series but blends the horror survival elements perfectly. It's a huge jump in horror compared to most games, but you got the brains and courage for such a game
I have discovered so many amazing games thanks to you!
“Run! Wait that’s not run that’s a mild jog!” That was so funny. 11:07
Game: "hold shift to run"
Us: "Excuse you?"
Wow you bring some great drama to these! I wonder if you should connect a Heart Rate monitor and display on screen cause you really trip with some of those jump scares..! Great work!
“Did you just catch that?”
Me, covering my eyes: Catch what?
😂 bro I always get these recommended to me at night time 😂
@@bro89174 luckily it's day time for me rn, but I'm still somewhat of a scaredy cat
27:25. Can we just appreciate the real time reflection from the mirror in real time, at an angle, the programmers put in please.
When this game is fully finished, I hope you'll continue with it to find out what happened on that ship and most importantly if the main character survives in the end!
This is the FUNNIEST you’ve ever been, Fooster (besides the hippo egg incident, of course). You had us dying laughing. More please 😂
They have since launched a study at Cambridge into prehistoric hippos and their laying of the eggs. Its just science guys!
What's this hippo egg incident you're referencing?
@@MrEpeeFencer lol. I believe it was from the game Ancestors. He kept calling a crocodile nest a hippo nest, and kept saying the hippos were attacking him because they were protecting their eggs. 😂
@@cometfly3247 Lmao.
I’ve been working on ship in the Bering sea since May now haha this video is perfect. One time we had a power outage at night and everything went pitch black. I started going around to my crew mates with my phone flash light and telling them with a cold face “they’ve boarded us, they’re finally here.” Lmao they were getting mad at me
Hey Fooster, love the content. If you really wanna scare the wits off of yourself I’d recommend “Amnesia: The Bunker”
I watched the first hour of it Chris! It looked and sounded great tbh but I didnt have time over the last week to play it all. I heard it was very good though
@@thefoosterchannel I’d love to see your reaction to it (kinda sounds sadistic lol)
But, whenever you have the time, I’m most certainly not rushing you and I hope no one else will either
That game is very well made. The echo when you shout adds another layer of reality.
I just got done watching a video about the Sewol ferry tragedy that sunk back in 2014 that ended up killing 306, 250 were students, out of 476 passengers, including a 6 year old boy who is still missing to this day along with 4 others, and so this video is extra unsettling to me and I'm currently mourning the tradgey as I learnt about so much horror that I didn't when it originally sunk in 2014 which is why I'm even commenting to begin with bc I'm trying to process how I'm feeling and want to talk about it, even if I'm shouting into the void.
It's such a crazy and sad story… the podcast Ship Hits the Fan recently did an episode on the disaster as well if you just want to listen to a few more people talk about it. Their episode is called "Negligence and Fraud Sink the Sewol Ferry".
honestly this game freaks me out and your reactions made it even more scarier
The statues and shadows are creepy as hell. But this "big stalking-thing" is just hilarious, it ruins everything.
Yes!! more horror games from Fooster another amazing video as always :D
I'm getting the Dead Space and Soma vibes in environmental sound design. Very interested
Is this meant to maybe be a terrifying take on davy jones and his crew? Ship adrift at sea and suddenly 'statues' covered in barnacles start showing up a few at a time like theyre "boarding" the ship? Then once theyve boarded the boat the captain shows up?
The only thing blocking the elevator is a cardboard box. IRL, you'd be able to just push it out the way. Also, how are you a professional naval rescuer; but you showed up without
_ANY_ gear? Not even a flashlight? None of it makes sense.
Fooster is my day booster. 🚀🚀🚀
Loved this gameplay! This game with Foosters narration? Fantastic
Gasping at your bravery lol Keep it up Fooster as I have said and you read from all your comments you are incredibly talented with your content Cheers mate 😊
Enjoyed this game play, as a big horror fanatic you've got me amped for when it is released.
If you're going for more horror I'd suggest a playthrough of Until Dawn before you and Fisk's next coop adventure in space. If you haven't played it yet, it'd be fun for you to see how the game differs from the studios more recent games.
OMG man that was heart wrenching. Can’t wait to see the full game
I got some pretty bad jumpscares while watching. 😱
I loved it anyways. 👍
The peekin' at 27:40 -ish scared the effin shit out of me!!!
I only played the demo for a short time, but I have to ask - wouldn't a "rescue"-type person automatically go to the bridge in order to find out the status of the ship's functions? That is, can the engines be started, etc.? Obviously there's power coming from somewhere. To me, just going below deck at the get-go makes no sense. I also think they should have at least made a cut-scene of the Endurance coming out of a fog (or something) and a shocked rescue team panic, running their boat into it, flinging the others in the water with the PC climbing aboard (somehow) vs the way it starts. Also, Steam states a release date of 2023, but Aegon Games doesn't even show the game on their web, which seems odd. Maybe we have to wait 4 years for it to reappear? Or maybe I'm just missing the boat. Either way, it looks neat.
How I flinched when that first figure jumped out of the locker...... damn XD it was a while since the last time I got scared !! Thank you !
If a ship vanishes for 4 years then sends a distress signal you don't send a rescue crew.
You send SEAL's.
The #1 i love when i watch your video is you didn't skip and read all the part of the game, when you play is like you actually on the game
I don't know how you're gonna play the longer game without having a coronary. Take care of yourself! :D
bruh, i fell asleep half way through the video and i woke up to a loud noise and almost knocked over my computer screen 💀
