Clint Eastwood did purchase the rights to the novel Nothing Lasts Forever which Die Hard is based from. Eastwood had planned to star in the film adaptation early in 1980s. Bruce Willis took the role after Robert De Niro has turned down the role in 1987 during pre production. BTW, here it was released as "Die hard", so I can't imagine the expression originated in Holland.

Damn. Imagine what might have been if Harrison Ford actually took the role as John McClane. He would have been sitting on the three biggest action franchises in film history (Star Wars: Hans Solo, Raiders of the Lost Ark: Indiana Jones and Die Hard: John McClane)!
The Glass Jungle refers to the all window sky scraper being overrun by terrorists (as they originally thought in the movie)! And bruce was the best to fill those shoes, he was only known for that romantic comedy series and it surprised everybody that he surpassed the expectations of that role, plus, he was afraid of flying in the beginning and had to calm his nerves right when all the chaos started and when he had to jump into action, he proved himself as an action actor! And Bruce had humor in contrast with his one man army! It's been a long time since I had seen Die Hard but I don't remember them saying anything about a German origin, only of European origin! There are two types of people in this world: 1. People who say Die Hard is their favorite Christmas movie! 2. Others who say Die Hard is not a Christmas movie.
Die Hard is better than a Christmas movie, it's an optional Christmas movie. You can watch it as a Christmas movie at Christmas, or you can watch it whenever you want. Perfect.
TBH, while people are praising the director’s decision to drop Rickman at the count of 2 instead of 3, it probably pissed Rickman off. An actor has to condition himself in order to convey how he should be feeling when acting a scene. Doing the drop unexpectedly threw Rickman’s preparation of out the window. It’s like playing a prank on someone and expect them not to get pissed.
Interesting fact ... that scary blonde guy who gets angry a lot is Alexander Godunov. He was a Soviet ballet dancer before defecting to the US in the late 70's.
4 German bonus facts: 1. The German title is "Stirb langsam" what is translated to "Die slowly" 2. To make the terrorists non-German there were some name changes: Hans Gruber is called Jack Gruber in the German dub. Karl Vreski is called Charlie, Uli turns to Oliver and Heinrich is called Henry. In the scene where John is writing Hans and Karls name on his arm, he wispers: "You two I call Hans and Karl, like the to giants from the fairytale." That was done to explain the written names. Anyway in Die Hard with a vengance the name changes seems to be forgotten in the German dub. So when the name of Simons brother is revealed, the name is Hans Gruber. 3. Hans Grubers line "Schieß dem Fenster!" is very terrible German. It should be like "Schieß auf das Fenster!" 4. To reduce the vocal violance in the movie "Yippie kay yay, motherfucker" was translated to "Yippie kay yay, Schweinebacke." Schweinebacke could be translated to "pigcheek".
Notable mention; when Bruce made a cameo as McLain in Loaded weapon 1. A spoof of another great Christmas movie Lethal weapon. Or when you mentioned Don Johnson was in the running as McLain. Bruce was an evil weapons trafficker in an episode of Miami Vice.
@@zerubbabelsbridge dam bro, u give me home work; “Dificil de Matar”. Duro and difícil are synonym in Spanish. Also in recent years is becoming more common that most movie titles don’t get translated if they are super common and cool English words, like “Spiderman” instead of “el hombre araña”.
No love for Home Alone? Macauley Culkin can effectively kill more people with his personality, than Bruce Willis and Mel Gibson combined, and armed to the teeth with assault weapons...
Diehard is simply one of the greatest action films ever. A lot of movies after were based on it But it was not a Christmas movie, a Christmas movie has to have a theme centering around the Christmas spirit, like " a miracle on 34th street" , " a Christmas Carol" or " the Christmas story".
DIE HARD is the best Christmas movie. "Theme"? Are you suggesting 'It's a Wonderful Life' has a Christmas theme? I think not. In fact, what better Christmas "theme" do you need than Christmas being a time for family and sacrifice over greed and malice? The 'Christmas Spirit'? That is the definition of the 'Christmas Spirit'.... McClane's whole reason for being in L.A. was because it was Christmas. Did he go visit his estranged family on Thanksgiving? Labor Day? Easter? I think not. There is as much 'Christmas' laced throughout 'DIE HARD' as any Christmas movie. From the music, to the dialogue to the props and mood of the film. Even with everything exploding all around you, the film never lets you forget about the holiday season that is Christmas.
I first watched it a bit after I first immigrated to the U.S. from Mexico, and had watched it on a spanish channel, which was advertised as "Duro Para Murir", which verbatum translates to "Hard to Die".

In case anyone is interested, and you probably guessed it already, the number 1 most memorable move quote of all time is “Frankly my dear I don’t give a damn” from Gone With the Wind

Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Gremlins, First Blood, all Christmas movies, obviously.
Japan has a centuries old custom of taking shoes off when entering a house, so the fact that he has no shoes is very important and specific to that culture.
Great videos mate, loving it.
I suspected it was something like that.
Lethal Weapon must be a holiday movie, as well, then...
One of the greatest quotes, when fighting Karl: "You should have heard your brother squeal when I broke his fucking neck".
I've been enjoying what you do on your channel for a few years now. I don't know how many of your videos I've seen or if I've seen all of them. I watch as many as I can. 🤓
People thinking what I watch during Christmas. Elf? Fred Clause? HELL NO!!!!
I watch Die Hard during Christmas.
There are two types of people in this world:
1. People who say Die Hard is their favorite Christmas movie!
2. Others who say Die Hard is not a Christmas movie.
No body and I mean nobody could have ever ever been John McLain except Bruce Willis. EVER. ICONIC
Die Hard is better than a Christmas movie, it's an optional Christmas movie. You can watch it as a Christmas movie at Christmas, or you can watch it whenever you want. Perfect.
You have made my year Minty. Have a satisfying solstice and a logical new year.
Minty you are like the STUFF once you try it cant stop. Please do KRULL and more 80s sci-fi and action.
Hank Messaros
Yesssssssssss. \m/
Hank Messaros krull that magic ninja star thing? Lol
Interesting fact ... that scary blonde guy who gets angry a lot is Alexander Godunov. He was a Soviet ballet dancer before defecting to the US in the late 70's.
4 German bonus facts:
1. The German title is "Stirb langsam" what is translated to "Die slowly"
It should be like "Schieß auf das Fenster!"
4. To reduce the vocal violance in the movie "Yippie kay yay, motherfucker" was translated to "Yippie kay yay, Schweinebacke." Schweinebacke could be translated to "pigcheek".
Omg my dad just finished bingewatching Die Hard 1,2 and 3
You should have joined him!
Did you tell him that was the end and they rightfully decided to not make any more
Oh my God! No way!!
Latin American version was “duro de matar”... “hard to kill”
What was Steven Segal's movie "Hard to Kill" called in Latin America?
@@zerubbabelsbridge dam bro, u give me home work; “Dificil de Matar”.
Duro and difícil are synonym in Spanish.
Also in recent years is becoming more common that most movie titles don’t get translated if they are super common and cool English words, like “Spiderman” instead of “el hombre araña”.
@@alejofox10 El hombre araña! 😂
La araña discoteca! Hahaha that's great man! Thanks!
the scary blond guy is Mr. Godunov, a very famous Russian ballet dancer
Die Hard and the original Lethal Weapon are the ONLY Christmas movies I will watch
No love for Home Alone? Macauley Culkin can effectively kill more people with his personality, than Bruce Willis and Mel Gibson combined, and armed to the teeth with assault weapons...
Oh, his streak of holiday violence is to be commended, but he doesn't "Fuck" enough for it to be truly festive and heartwarming
I enjoy Behind Enemy Lines as well
Every Christmas Eve, this movie!
John McTiernan = "John McTyrenan"
Classic Minty
Diehard is simply one of the greatest action films ever. A lot of movies after were based on it
But it was not a Christmas movie, a Christmas movie has to have a theme centering around the Christmas spirit, like " a miracle on 34th street" , " a Christmas Carol" or " the Christmas story".
Nope, Die Hard is a Christmas movie. So is Lethal Weapon.
What was the music during the credits…I rest my case!
WRONG
I think Die Hard is an action that takes place at Christmas.
I first watched it a bit after I first immigrated to the U.S. from Mexico, and had watched it on a spanish channel, which was advertised as "Duro Para Murir", which verbatum translates to "Hard to Die".
Hey did you know Bruce Willis was an extra in the movie The Detective ?
At what part? Bruce Willis turned 3 in 1968. I'd love to see that part...
I meant *13*
Wow! Talk about synergy!
rbeck3200tb40 he was not he didn’t acting until 1980 when was an extra in a few movies then and was bartender before he went to be in the Tv show Moonlighting when got the role of John McClane.
Think it was more for comedy with the "he has no shoes" and "but this time he has shoes".
Thank you for your videos Minty. This time I didn't know any of your 10 things about the movie.
I do watch this movie every December while I wrap gifts. This and Bill Murray's Scrooged.
Tis a Christmas movie alright. 'Die Hard' should be watched every Christmas year after 'A Charlie Brown Christmas'. Fun for the whole family!
👌🏻😃👏🏻👏🏻🍻🍻🍻🍻
Something that NOW you will know, that hardly anyone else did!
The Bad Guy is Hans Gruber.
He shares the same last name as the composer of "Silent Night" which is Franz Gruber.
With Hans though, it's anything BUT a "Silent Night"!
In case anyone is interested, and you probably guessed it already, the number 1 most memorable move quote of all time is “Frankly my dear I don’t give a damn” from Gone With the Wind
Great Christmas film! I left shoes, cigarettes and twinkies for John McClane near my tree.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!
Yes it's a Christmas movie merry Christmas minty best year can't wait for next year
I love the pun. Yes. "Die Hard" is a Christmas movie. Happy new year Minty.
Minty, in Serbia the movie was titled something like "Die in manly way" or "Die like a man". No one is selling his skin :) Greetings from Serbia!
Never understood what the rename when it doesn't make sense. What's wrong with Die Hard in other languages?
007 - The Living Daylights had a German title: "Der Hauch des Todes" which means "The Smell of Death". :D
Riutanharju weird
In Sweden it was "Iskallt uppdrag" (Ice cold Mission),
Riutanharju really
And in Finland it was "Vaaran vyöhykkeellä" (In the Danger Zone).
Bruce Willis, "Die Hard is not a Christmas movie, Die Hard is a Bruce Willis Movie".
DUDE, it's pronounced "Mick-TEAR-Nen" - John McTiernan. NOT Mick-TIRE-Nan
In Germany the movie is titled: Stirb Langsam. Which means :Die slowly. Yes, i had to watch it in German dubbing. At least on DVD I could select the original language and hear the difference.
F Yeah, hands down the GOAT of all Christmas Movies
i stopped watching the video to watch die hard with a vengeance and came back with so much energy
