Hello Ellen I recently had a loaf of CP crack dead center wall to wall. I freaked out and immediately placed in the freezer for about 2 hours then move down in the fridge for a couple of hrs. The crack practically gone. It's works if caught early on. Thank you for always sharing knowledge.

I love coconut oil soaps. The first one I made started to crack real bad. I just smooched it back together with gloves on of course, and it wasn’t even visible that it had split after. I recently did a salt bar too with 100% coconut oil. Love it. Thanks for sharing.

When making soap like this it’s a 3 days process for me I let my soap freeze in the freezer for 24 hours then take it out the freezer for 24 hours and let it unfreeze and on the 3 day I cut it with no cracks it’s works

I love the mushroom colour, I made coconut oil general house cleaning soaps today in small cube moulds and some were cracking on the top too. They get so hot. I just left them as they weren’t decorative ones. Coconut oil sure is fascinating. Thanks Ellen.
I love this soap. I make it both hot process and cold process. Everyone in my family loves this. I have done a 50 coconut 50 babassu which is lovely. I personally like to add some castor for that over the top lather too
@@pastryshack551 Babassu oil is an oil with a lot of the same characteristics as coconut it's white and solid at room temperature it comes from palm seeds. It's much lighter on the skin and absorbs well. It like coconut oil gives a big bubbly lather. Castor oil is also a seed oil that has many uses both internally and topically. In soap it increases lather.
I make two kinds of cleaning soaps with coconut oil. One is 100% coconut for my laundry, and the other is 50% coconut, 30% tallow, and 20% palm oil for my dishes. I like both! I want to make a sea salt soap with 15% avacado oil, 5% castor oil, and 80% coconut oil with coconut milk and probably a 15-20% superfat.

Loved this video, coconut and sea salt soaps are my favourite & the tips and tricks were so helpful. I was worried you were going to break a wire there for a minute though! I've done that a few times cutting coconut soaps so now i usually cut them quite early at around 4 -6 hours or so otherwise i get stuck because it's too hard already.
Ellen would you suggest putting the soap straight in the fridge. I will definitely try this as I like coconut soap when staying at resorts in Asia. Love your additives very consistent. Very good information too

This is a follow-up comment regarding this amazing recipe. Well, it's amazing. This was my second attempt at cold process, (the first resulting in slime-on-a-stick), so I was nervous, and I think I watched the tutorial about 8 times before I worked up enough nerve to give it a go. I am so glad I tried it! This recipe is bulletproof. Other than a slight acceleration from the fragrance oil I used, it did all the work for me, and the results were spectacular! Thanks, again, for this excellent video and recipe! 😊😊😊
I have been making coconut oil soap for five years. I do a 20% super fat and that’s it. The only other thing I add is either essential oils or fragrance oil and a bit of mica colors. My soap is super super super popular and yet it’s so simple. If you want to change it up and do a laundry soap or a dish soap, Just change the super fat from 20 to one. Easy Peezy

I really enjoy your videos Ellen 😊 I’m new to soap making, I’ve watched a few other videos where the milk (any milk) is added after the lye and oils are mixed together to avoid scorching of the milk, change of color and undesirable smell of the soap. How do you avoid the above with this recipe, since you added the milk before the lye? I’m curious to try your technique. Thank you.
I like the "milk in oil" method because it's so easy. I haven't had scorching issues, but have had milks morph in color (they always bounce back). Both ways are great and work well, it's just a personal preference.

I used a fo that I recently purchased from Nuture soap - Lavender & Sage..... Omgosh, it smells soooo good! I know it hasn't cured for 4-6 weeks but tested a a bar just because I love the scent and BOY did my hands feel so soft and silky afterwards!!! Seriously, never had a soap that felt so wonderful!! My question is - do you think this soap, once cured can be used on the hair as a shampoo bar?? I want my whole body including my hair to feel soft & silky as my hands did when I tested this bar of coconut oil soap!!!

I make a 100% coconut oil soap for laundry soap and I grate it and mix it with washing soda, I also keep a few bars for scrubbing stains, don’t use on grass though it spreads the stain, ask me how I know 🤦🏼♀️😂😂😂😂
Can someone please help me? I put the 💯 coconut oil in the recipe calculator and the 20% SF but what is the lye concentration? And the fragrance ratio? I really want to try this. Please help
I like a steep water discount, so my concentration is around 28%, but 33% is the norm. And each fragrance can have a different usage rate, so be sure to look up whatever one you're using... Most F.O.'s are used at about 5%.

I'm using coconut milk, and prefer the milk in oil method over freezing the milk and adding the lye to it.. I find it quicker and simpler this way, but full milk is great too.

I only make soap with makesy 50/50 lye solution. I work with preparing the lye solution for the first time . Thanks to you I did it . Please if you can share an email or other communication method I would like to share with you of the final product.
If you want to do a full milk soap, you can freeze the coconut milk and add the lye very slowly.. It takes a bit longer, so I find the milk in oil faster and easier.

I have made 100% coconut soap. Love it, specially in the winter. Finland winter is very dry for the skin and coconut soap is so moisturizing. 😍

High coconut oil soaps can take a big super fat because it's an oil that doesn't go rancid easily.

I haven't heard of adding coconut flakes?? But I would add the exfoliant either to the oils or after a light trace.

I'm not sure exactly how hot it gets at peak gel phase?? Yes, I do spritz the tops with alcohol sometimes😉

I have not had an issue with soap scum, but adding citric acid can help with that..

@@karenb3857 So glad you love the soap! I've found that if you have hard water, bar soap will make your hair feel tacky... But it's worth a try..

You can leave the sugar out completely and it will still lather great❣️

I typically do about 33%, but you can run the # thru soap calc and check.

Hi Ellen, I have a question.Can I put cold processed soap in the refrigerator or do I have to leave it out & covered it to allow it to go through the gel phase?
You can pop it in the fridge if you don't want to gel.

The only coconut milk I can find is in a can but it's really thick. Would that work for soap?
Yes, I would do the milk in oil method if it's super thick.

I make a 100% coconut oil soap for laundry soap and I grate it and mix it with washing soda, I also keep a few bars for scrubbing stains, don’t use on grass though it spreads the stain, ask me how I know 🤦🏼♀️😂😂😂😂

Can someone please help me? I put the 💯 coconut oil in the recipe calculator and the 20% SF but what is the lye concentration? And the fragrance ratio? I really want to try this. Please help
I like a steep water discount, so my concentration is around 28%, but 33% is the norm. And each fragrance can have a different usage rate, so be sure to look up whatever one you're using... Most F.O.'s are used at about 5%.

So my question 🙋♀️ is what is the super fat in the soap? I want to try this soooooo bad but I don’t want to mess it up. I’m definitely going to follow your lead but the super fat you talked about is throwing me off. (HELP)
The SF is factored into the total oils to lye ratio, so this recipe already has it included❣️
I’m curious why not add all the coconut water to sodium hydroxide?
I'm using coconut milk, and prefer the milk in oil method over freezing the milk and adding the lye to it.. I find it quicker and simpler this way, but full milk is great too.

I only make soap with makesy 50/50 lye solution. I work with preparing the lye solution for the first time . Thanks to you I did it . Why not just adding lye to the coconut milk instead of mixing it with the oil?
If you want to do a full milk soap, you can freeze the coconut milk and add the lye very slowly.. It takes a bit longer, so I find the milk in oil faster and easier.
