In honor of his great contributions to country guitar playing we have included a lesson on Merle Haggard's classic song “Mama Tried” here from Guthrie Trapp (bit.ly/2EzFtfP).
This is only Part 1 of Guthrie's lesson on soloing over "Mama Tried." You can find Part 2 in the Intermediate section of the Online Country Guitar with Guthrie Trapp curriculum at ArtistWorks. Click the link for more info and free sample lessons: bit.ly/2EzFtfP
Well definitely got all that i came for and more!! This will keep me busy for the night!!
Love that overhead angle- perfect for learning.
GT always tasteful solos
D string is open on opening riff. Makes a big difference. Thanks!
Love this! Great job breaking this classic piece down!
Excellent song and great improvisation. Thanks for sharing.
Top class as usual. Love the tone and the solo is unreal
Gutrie plays beautifully and always with taste!
Such an excellent lesson lesson Guthrie! Thank you for sharing your incredible skills!!
And you are an awesome player
This is it! Thanks Guthrie!
Nice solo mate! And really great lesson... got a lot out of that. Thanks so much!
NICE, REALLY LIKE THE OVERHEAD LOOK! EASIER TO PICK UP. WELL DONE GUTHRIE! THANK YOU. PLEASE DO MORE!
Awesome, got so much from this lesson, can't thank you enough!! You're a fantastic player!!
Guthrie, dude you are awesome. And I mean, - not just your skills on that guitar bro, but your teaching and the whole package for realio. There ain't no one I enjoy much more listenin to play AND teach than yourself sir! Keep up the great work! You are a gem!
Yeah right on I agree!!
I knew you were serious when you said it was for 'realio'.
Lovely playing, thanks 😊
very enjoyable and instructive
Killer playing!
Thank You so Much
Awesome lesson thanks
Really nice!
Hooooot🎉
YES, VERY NICE
Bend the e string over the top nut than cover the b string1st space on the end of entro or bridge
You sound good. Nice take.
i still play a couple of steel licks i learned from Roy Nichols.
It's not only the licks it's all the little bits of info you get from a real pro player .
Awesome stuff man
Where do u get your country music backing tracks ?
Nice Guth.....mo' fine
On the intro, it seems to me after the pull off from f to e on the 2nd string, you are hammering on the 3rd string from d to e ...which I didn't see in the explanation. Is this happening?
My favorite by Merle. Out of curiosity, though, is it played using the same positions on an acoustic guitar? I can't make it sound right.
Are you mixing major and minor Pentatonic in D.?
Thanks. Bob
Surprisingly, as I write this, nine people have given this thumbs down. Why?
Cause they are musical mental midgets and haters let them listen to Timberlake years that's the ticket I'll stick with this guy he is modest and a monster
jon i sense you don't use these vids that often cause that is usually the norm. it also drives me nuts!! as andy aledort told me there is no right or wrong way to play as long as you like the sound you get. jon, use the force jon
This wasn't a lesson, it was a watch what I can do.
WHAT AMPLIFICATOR IR?
WHAT MODEL GUITAR IS?
SURE SHE DID
Great pickin but the intro is nothing like the Merle version
Just listened to Merle play this tune. This video is perfect.
DIDN'T FOLLOW HIM AT ALL EITHER,....!!!
Your 8ntro is way off. I've watched your stuff in the past. And there is no b minor in this song. Sorry.there just aint.
B minor in the chorus
If your don't know where sorry but your not playing it right.
The Bm is what really makes this tune in my opinion
That is what's up super cool
