Some folks advise that the grip position on a walking stick should have your firearm level, rather than slanted. That works for me. Wherever the grip is located, it should be comfortable for the user. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying
Great idea. While you were peeling the stick; it reminded me of when I was young peeling dozens of 6’ tall 8” round oak posts for future fence posts. Anyways, need to find myself a cedar stick somewheres so I can create one for myself. Thnx
I always use 24" of leather. That way you can use the lanyard as a crude measuring tape if needed. Untie the lanyard to measure 2 feet, half the untied lanyard is a foot, etc. Also you can get a cheap 3/4 inch dia compass online to mount that the top of your walking stick. A couple of coats of poly, and you are done.
I think that by the time I post this comment You'll have realized that your leather cord is too short and cuts off the circulation in you're hand. I don't mean to be mean spirited but I too have been down that road and had to make a longer lanyard. I know that Cedar bark removal can be a bummer, everything you said was true., if there's no knots from where branches grew, the bark will offten strip off the whole length if done soon aftere cutting a live stick. thanks for the post!

I cut notches in mine inches to 1 foot then 2 foot and 3 feet. gives me a yard stick. I then color them with a sharpie.
I am having to regain balance after major surgery gonna make me one 👊 good job.
Nice But if you dug the dirt away from the roots you can make a Cane. More people use them cause they are unable to hike in the woods..
Great information
I never thought of that; great idea!
Great job

For Americans, the US Flag is red white and blue. Not black. Join the USA. Where is this filmed? Canada?
Nice walking sticks.
Canada KNOWS what Color your flag is
I have one black and gray, one green and black, and one is red, white, and blue. All from USA.
He does not even know how to debark branches....
Looks like he did !!!! 🤨
that stick that you cut is not cedar. cedars are evergreen. your stick is deciduous. learn tree identification before you try to teach.
It is eastern red cedar
