Liked this so much I purchased another as a gift. Very easy to use and has great suction. I find myself vacuuming more often than when I didn’t own it.

Liked. I think that the Motorhead is about 0.4 lbs lighter than the larger capacity version. 5.5 lbs vs 5.9 lbs. Wish you had mentioned if that's noticeable over a 20 minutes cleaning session. That's 0.4 lbs right at the hand. That 5.5 lbs is almost as light as as the V12 at 5.2 lbs. And for that .3 lbs more, you get more low and medium power, and you get a larger bin capacity. So sounds like a 'winner.' I realize that I'm 3 years late....:) But that Motorhead is pretty remarkable even to this day.

I just bought the Dyson V10 absolute...and all models were on sale at bed bath and beyond! Which model do you honestly prefer? Are the older models better than the V10’s absolute? I couldn’t decide on any of them so I just picked the V10 absolute! Is this worth it?

I have a question....out of all the vacuums you tested, what are your top 2 favorites? What would be best for cat hair, and for furniture and carpet. Thank you

We've owned the V8 for three years, and it's an absolutely amazing vacuum cleaner. We clean our entire 2,700 sq ft two story home with it, which is about 70% carpet, and 30% ceramic tile. That's not to say we can clean the entire home on just one charge, as it usually takes about a charge and a half to do a thorough job of vacuuming the entire house, but we usually split it up between tile days and carpet days anyway, were we're vacuuming the tile nearly every day, and the carpet about two or three times a week. (We're only a family of three, so...) I can't imagine anyone complaining that their finger gets tired pulling the trigger on one of these. The trigger is very easy to pull, so much so you really don't even notice you're actually pulling a trigger. It requires no more force than your other fingers are using to grip the handle. That finger just happens to be on the power trigger is all. I just wanted to point that out. I actually like the fact that I don't have to flip a switch to turn it on and off.

There is also alarming rate of cordless Dysons suffering batteries to go dead. Consumer reports no longer recommends these because the reliability is bad compared to other cordless vacuums.

    • @stevejones1972

Indeed - it all depends on how much the machines get used, and how often. Most Lithium Ion rechargable batteries used on these vacuums can only sustain between 300 and 500 full charge cycles before being unable to be recharged any more, and after this, they fail, require replacement, which is about £75 for a new battery in the UK.
Use of MAX draws well over 20 amps from the battery, which makes it hot, and this, if done regularly, makes the battery get damaged internally and reduces its operational life. Use of MAX should be very sparing, and only for extreme messes.
Also, knocking the trigger when the bin is open for emptying draws all the dirt under the cyclone discharge areas back through the cyclones and straight onto the pre-motor filter, making it dirtier than it otherwise would be, so this should also be avoided. This applies to the V6, V7 and V8 as well as the V10.

We bought the V10 Cyclone Motorhead about 2 years ago and were happy for may be the 1st couple of months then things went all to hell! 2 main issues...the number of uses before we have to rinse the filter out and there will be hardly anything in the canister and it will start that revving noise and show that something is plugging the system! 1st...shouldn't we get more than 4 or 5 10 minute uses out of the vacuum before we have to rinse the filter? And 2nd...the vacuum will start that revving noise and show the warning symbol that the system is plugged but there is NOTHING there! I remove whatever attachment is on on, empty the canister and inspect the system completely but NOTHING there. Turn it on again and the same revving noise! We paid $699+tax for this unit and are REALLY disappointed!

Thanks a lot for your detailed review! What about the vibration of the torque head in V11 animal? We find the motorized torque head has additional vibration. Is that less in V10?

"Yeah, this is better for stair cases because of some of the awkward corners...". Ha, good thing I live in a flat and not a two-story house! Jokes aside, I'm contemplating whether or not 6 minutes of extra suction will be enough for a cat-fur-filled carpet every 4 hours, so I could vacuum the fur to the max and leave it charging for the next time I (or my mom) will get annoyed with the fur during the day.

The V8 was once quoted to having only 22 Airwatts and then Dyson put it up to 28 air watts again. I never trust what Dyson say now. Also the batteries can be a problem on these machines. Has only 2 year warranty for a reason. I hate the trigger design it actually makes my finger sore on the knuckle from the rubbing in use. I find that in the standard low mode the V8 doesn't pick up anything from the edges. My step dad has a V6 and his machine fails to pick up tiny stones from his rug that has some 'dips' in it. Wheras a decent mains powered machine would have easily picked up the stones. It amazing how many homes are dirty as they only use a Dyson cordless. Max mode continuously will only bugger the battery prematurely!!

Dyson stick vacuums do have removal/swappable batteries. Maybe be not the V10 motorhead.

If these things ever get to the point where you can run at max power for like 45 minutes with a motorized tool, I'm in. 5 minutes at max power? That's ridiculous.

What is the difference between the torque head and the direct drive head

    • @stevejones1972
      @stevejones1972 5 років тому +2

The torque drive head is only available on the V10 Animal and Absolure, in the US market, and has the large debris gates in the underside of it, which are openable and closeable. For the US model V10 "Motorhead", and also all models of V10 In the UK and other markets, we do not get the torque drive head, but the older type of head, as found on the V7 and V8, which does not have the adjustable large debris gates on the underside. I dont know why Dyson gave the US the new type of head, but did not give the UK market this head, but thats the main difference between the direct drive head and the torque head. Strictly, both heads are "direct drive", as the motor resides within the brushroll and no belts are used to drive the brushroll. The fluffy head is also a direct drive, the same manner as the carpet head found on the machine in this video.

    • @blackice7408

Plus the torque drive is twice as powerful as the direct drive head (100W vs 50W)

V10 motor died after 2yrs! not reliable, I think the older Dysons were better but quality and service have gone downhill, hope Sir Dyson is paying attention! (PS I think it was V10 Cyclone.)

This is a horrible video with false information - some of the Dyson stick vacs DO have a swappable battery. Dyson V6 you CAN remove the battery and put in a spare one. Get your facts straight before you say ALL Dyson stick vacs have non-removable or non-swappable batteries - that may be the case for the V10 but not true for all models.

    • @grandprix2300

You missed the point. By swappable They mean how you can juts swap a battery in a drill w no screws. When you account for screws everything is swappable
