@@chukwumaeke8209I don’t know the entire details or how it works in the sports world, but in a court of law for example, if your sentence is reduced and you are released under time already served, it doesn’t expunge your conviction, for that the court or jury would have to overturn the entire ruling.

It would be awesome if you did video about Mouratoglou himself. For example I saw an article where a young player (something like 16) said that they are giving substances to young players at his academy and are manipulating parents to sign some papers to "confirm" this behavior.
I had a suspicion that all of this was born out of her divorce to that billionaire she was married to. Her problems really took off after her divorce. It is not unfathomable that the billionaire would use all his influence and contacts to tank her career.

There is no reason that this whole thing should be taking this long. It took her over a year just to get an appeal. We've seen players get an appeal process in less than six months from the time their ban came down.
The whole topic is mostly who gets caught and who doesn't - not who uses it and who doesn't :D

They have so called biological passports, and if we look certain values as a line, they are pretty much steady, minor variations. In Halep’s passport started to be high climbs and drops, it looked like a roller coaster. So they monitored her at least 5-6, maybe even 8 months before they blowed the whistle. No room for error.
Isn't that valid for all forms of cheating?
Tennis players are doping far more than ever and it’s a huge scandal that’s been kept at bay. You can’t seriously tell me Halep and Sharapova were doping and Serena wasn’t when she looked like an NFL running back in her peak.
Not to mention her on-court potential "roid" rage (more than a handful)

So my question is with the players being the front of the stories, are any of the teams of these players getting looked at? Like most top players have like 10 people on their team if not more. So someone could have given her something that she fully didn’t know what she took.
Blood doping is more common than you think .... one can also increase oxygenation of the blood in high altitude training, etc. which makes it very hard to establish truly abnormal levels.

The tennis establishment has really embarrassed themselves in this case. They are supposed to journalists, but instead are all simping for Halep to protect their own (Mourtaglou and Cahill). The complete lack of objectivity is disgusting.

Once you smear someone with this sort of allegations, it's a stain for life for them. These institutions shouldn't be doing such things unless ther're way more sure than "likely".
If only doping control in tennis would be similar to what cycling doping control is. The more money to be earned, the more likely the use of doping. When the Lance Armstrong story came out, it became known that in the same year, when in tennis a total of no less than 21 out of competition controls had taken place, in cycling that number was 3314 if I'm correct. It's like ATP/WTA are Ostriches.
Yes, cycling has a history of doping going back to the very first races, where tennis has been a gentleman's game for very long. EPO must have changed a lot in many sports, in which it is of use for the sporter. Where the benefit for cyclists, long distance runners and other sports is easy to understand, in nowadays tennis it should also be understood that stamina, plus the mental effect of playing someone who doesn't seemed to be effected of any fatigue during a 5 hour match certainly plays a role. With earnings running in the millions, it's also easy to hire the best medical experts and never get caught, if ever the ATP or WTA would even bother to check.
Just one correction, WTA / ATP doesn’t have in their possession any player’s biological passport, WADA does. And when Halep’s was starting to look like stock market 📈, they monitored her from 5-8 months before they decided to blow the whistle. The length of ban shows that it was systematic and masking the usage was in place.
What she achieved before this bs and what she achieved after.. doesn't add up, what serena achieved in her career while gaining mass rapidly, likely due to where pat sources his beef, would be a more a questionable case.

In an administrative action like this, unlike a criminal charge in a court of law, the accused has the burden of proof to show they are innocent, there is no "beyond a reasonable doubt" standard.

Thing is, Maria Sharapova was a cheater. Halep probably was, too. But once again, the rules and punishments are wildly inconsistent in the world of tennis...just take a look at The Rublev default for further evidence.
what was done here is a classic in modern day athletic doping which happens in mma which i am familiar in as well, these big training camps set up specific supplement companies under someone else's control in a different country, and then they taint the specific supplement that they will take as a cover up to actually taking an illegal substance, then you can plead innocence and blame the random small supplement company that can just shut it self down immediately. a similar case happened with yoel romero, an mma fighter, who managed to prove the banned substance he tested positive for originated in some random useless supplement he was taking, he then proceeded to sue the supplement company for 10$s of millions, and the small random supplement company just went bankrupt and paid nothing basically.
what is strange about this case is that when they tested Simona's supplement they actually came to a conclusion that it wasn't highly dosed enough in her banned substance to explain her blood levels, which is strange, since it is logical that certain batches of the supplement can have higher levels of said substance and they based their findings on a different batch to the one Simona was taking (i do believe she should be banned regardless).
blaming Patrick for this is just an attempt to clear her name, as this entire thing is intentionally done and a random collagen supplement would not aid what so ever in her recovery if she is eating a normal athlete diet, and Patrick does not suffer any consequence for doping himself, he is just there to take the public heat and make her appear innocent.
it seems also that Simona failed to properly fake her biological passport, and she did not have enough red blood cells before going in to Patrick's camp to account for the rise she would get from doping, its possible she banked on her cosmetic appearing nose job and the surgery she had to account for the lower levels of red blood cells before she went to Patrick's camp as a cover up, but the officials did not seem to buy it at all lol. she should have made her camp in altitude for a couple months to cover up the increase
You make some good points but those points are not helped when you add speculation such as "cosmetic appearing nose job" when you have no proof that it is not related to breathing problems, which is a possibility. I have a niece who began developing breathing problems in her late 20s and had surgery very similar to Simona's. I too was told that my breathing may benefit from corrective surgery to my nose but I was already in my 50s and my problem was not critical enough so I decided to just live with it. Anyway, as the video wisely advises everyone, the only good approach to the discussion is to rely on the established facts in the matter.

People want to be cheated. Romania is a small state with not many well known stars. There is the giant Tiriac and then Halep. Guess there has been a lot of pressure from the state itself to protect their heroes no matter what. Romania is a corrupt country with a huge history in doping, weight lifters, wrestlers etc.

Excellent video. Just one comment. Presumption of innocence is a legal doctrine in criminal law, and usually only for serious offenses that can lead to jail time. The zero tolerance approach of doping violations contradicts directly with presumption of innocence. For instance, the concept does not apply to traffic offenses where a word of a police officer will usually Trump your own, and you will be convicted.

I think she's being used as an example to other WTA players that wouldn't "colaborate" (panic attacks, scripting matches, etc.), even when she had a "panic attack", which was like a trend a couple of years ago, maybe she said "this is it, enough is enough" and the WTA is showing through her what happens when you say "no" to them. And knowing that multiple grand slam champions were doing steroids for so long and nobody made a real issue out of that, is even more suspiscious.
Players being more dominant at 36 than at 27 doesn’t make sense to me. I’ve never seen this in any sport. Not talking about excellent performances from time to time but Djokovic owning the sport for years.
A tennis pro in his 30s has done enough damage to his body to require all sorts of medically allowed doping.
This kind of situation would be greatly simplified using something like the code-violation system in matches. The ITF should just impose a warning followed by escalating penalties leading up to a ban. This way, there is much less of a qualitative/subjective assessment - make it so the specifics are largely irrelevant. E.g., the first time an athlete tests positive for a banned substance, issue a warning with a follow-up test. Second time, regardless of whether it's the same or different substance, issue a short penalty, e.g., 6-8 weeks, again with a follow-up test. Third time, a longer penalty, e.g. 6 months. Fourth time, years. 5th time, banned from the sport.
Something like that deals with athletes who are just trying to cheat, but it also deals with athletes who may not have the best team, and it gives them a chance to correct the situation. If I had no intention of cheating but was being misled by my team (whether on purpose or by incompetence), I'd give them one chance, but after that, it's time to drop them.
A lot of substances can stay in your system for many months, so a 6-8 week wait between tests wouldn't be enough time for a full system flush. Also, if the penalty for doping is simply a DQ from that specific tournament and a warning, a lot of players would take the risk for a multi-million dollar payout. This also wouldn't discourage lower-level players from attempting because there isn't as much scrutiny of the players, and a lot of the time they're just trying to get their first break. They would have to start drug testing everyone at every event, which would be an absolute nightmare for organizers. Not to mention sponsors don't want their IP associated with sports doping.

That system greatly incentivizes cheating. Everyone would dope at least until their first warning. Nothing to lose if you get caught.

The ITF should take subjectivity out of it as much as possible. I gave an example simply to illustrate the point. I'm not suggesting they do it _exactly_ like my example.

I am not saying she's guilty. I just don't see a path to innocence for her. The fact that she did not say she took the supplement, in not just one, but two interviews and forms, is a big problem. It wasn't just some medication from a pharmacy. It was a specialty supplement from a lab. Her not mentioning it when she should have, is going to be a big issue for her.
The court reduced the ban from 4 years to 9 months because the supplement was contaminated
Simona's lawyer said that she filled in Schinoussa recovery drink in that form. Schinoussa recovery drink is actually the result of mixing KETO MCT and some other supplement in a blender. Basically Simona remembered and filled in the brand of the new supplements she started taking few days before US Open as a recovery drink. She was not ingesting the dry KETO MCT powder directly.
Turns out she did reveal the supplement. The commenter above got it right I think as to what the story was reported to be

When did Serena have the first foot surgery which lead to a clot in her lungs? 2010 post Wimbledon - along with using thinners and anticoagulants plus nonsteriodal anti inflammatory drugs to prevent swelling because swelling = clots.
She was already predisposed to blood clots due to her anabolic steroid use.

Acne breakouts are caused by various factors such as diet, stress (which probably is the case here), exhaustion, etc. Famously, steroid use causes acne breakouts as well-if you look at steroid users in the gym, they get random acne breakouts on their face, back, chest, etc.

Simona is well known to have suffered for years from a thyroid dysfunction for which she has taken everyday treatment for a long period of time. The thyroid is causing hormonal imbalance which leads to acne breaks, weight issues, hair loss, irregular periods, and many many other issues. Keep your observations for yourself if you have no idea what you are talking about. Not everything is caused by drugs.

Yeah, that’s worse than inventing a condition that exempts you if u test positive for fucking ROIDS. i always figured that serena despite being super talented, looks nothing like no other tennis player that has ever player or will ever play. Roids are a HUGE offense, but not for serena
1) 7:38 "likely doping" is the highest degree of certainty that the ABP experts can place on an ABP charge. This is equivalent to "beyond a reasonable doubt" under WADA guidelines.
2) 7:49 a single positive urine test is by itself not enough to trigger an ABP charge. Blood doping requires extended periods of blood manipulation. It's a separate offense.
3) 8:33 IMO you're giving too much weight to the supplement contamination defense. The WADA labs found no evidence of Roxadustat in the Keto MCT supplement, and the Tribunal essentially said that the KETO MCT supplement could not explain the levels of Roxadustat found in her urine sample.
4) 11:32 Athletes who successfully build a case for "No Significant Fault of Negligence" will face a maximum suspension of two years. This is what Halep attempted to do via her contamination defense, but without success. In 2023 the ITIA also gave 4-year bans to Sydney Dorcil and Stefano Battaglino due to doping offenses.
5) 13:47 This is just an accusation made by Halep's lawyers. Nothing of this sort happened according to the case document.
Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't aware of the details but had the impression video is murky in throwing together all sorts of claims without burdening itself with understanding the procedures and comparable concurrent cases.

These athletes are constantly being tested..i just don't think that they 'can all be doing it', as some people claim.
Though a little more in depth than other commentors , still the analyse skips a lot of important stuff. Her year was extremely chaotic exactly because she trust this man : Maratoglou to the extreme, he made her gave the most important people around her, which she could 100% trust: Rudzici and her physical trainer she had for years by her side and also lead to the breakage of her marriage. That is why she broke emotionally in panic attacks. This guy 100% betrayed her . Cahill was a trainer and a friend , almost as a family member, but he didnt want to travel so much anymore, so she got on the hand of the ...... She got blood test the following days, after the positive in urine, which all came negative and ITIA dismissed a lot of other evidences, and tried to manipulate the discourse in order to bury her with the extra charge of her irregularities in the biometrical ID. So happy she went out well, out of this madness which is going for several years. I hope Maratoglou will pay one day to his wrong doings .
the whole doping discussion in professional sports is so hypocritical. If players can find a doctor that they can pay they are legally allowed to consume performance enhancing drugs no matter how ridiculous their so-called illness is. Ask Nadal and Williams. Steroids and amphetamine for curing illnesses... such substances should be banned in general no matter if a player is pretentiously sick or not.

It is so surprising that she got caught because Tennis only tests 1% of what cycling does. So naturally it is rare to catch someone.
Halep was on stuff forca long time in her career. Nadal and others got famously deleted from Fuentes epo lists by spanish sports minister. Serena everyone knows she abused roids and corticosteroids for her career. And so on. ATP and WTA are not interested effectively fighting doping.

Lance Armstrong won 7 titles. Even after recovering from cancer he still won. No one could beat him.
PEDs actually HELP maintaining careers of long raining mega rich champions, in a world of sports that has increasing levels of regulation, an up and comer can not afford doctors and chemists that curate drug protocols for them like the record holders due, plus, when a champion becomes too big, a sport can often be dependent on them monetarily, simply put exposing them for ped use is financially illogical, how much money in viewership would tennis had lost if novak/roger/rafa would have been caught in their prime? comes up to the billions.
in conclusion, peds and regulations around them actually prevent young competitors from ever reaching the levels of already popular champions.

It would seem logical that more tennis players use forms of doping without being discovered.
So giving a 4 year ban seems unequal as opposed to several other cases. Making an example with a very high penalty should only be considered when there is very strong proof that the athlete willingly used some proven efficient doping for a significant period of time, and cheated doping tests somehow.
Busting more doped athletes should be the priority. Not finding few and giving those huge penalties…
She has been banned since 1.5 years ago. However her sentence is reduced to 9 months. Isn’t she over punished? By the way this sentence doesn’t mean that Halep is innocent or her sample is contaminated per accident, it just means that the violation is not that serious to deserve 4 years ban. However what I feel from this video that doping and cheating is way more widespread than we think. Superheroes like Nadal and Djokovic have been using banned substances for a long time. Only either they have been tolerated or they have been hiding very well or they always have sone valid health reasons. It doesn’t change the fact that they are cheating…
Medically allowed by law and allowed within the sport are two different things. Obviously, some people are crossing the lines. The fact that the damage to the body is significant is more concerning when you have people in late 30’s still dominating. However, as they try to keep the sport clean, I feel for those falsely accused and suspended. Halep situation dragged on too long.

In terms of the likely doping since the trial was carried out in the US as a civil case there isn’t a burden without a reasonable doubt but instead more likely than not so it would explain why the “likely doping” would’ve mattered
It is not uncommon to see an athlete performing "120%", that is, well above average, as the video says, especially among high-ranking athletes. It can be seen by the physical reactions, power, concentration, and accuracy of the strikes. When you see a tennis player "out of this planet", he or she is a serious candidate.

I do feel sorry for Simona . Still I remember her reaction to the Maria case. Which was with a recently banned drug. Her pathetic speech about clean tennis was so harsh. The fact that many athletes support her speaks good about these athletes not about Simone. Although I don’t like Patrick particularly, Simone needs to get accounted of what she had put in her body ,,, as Sharapova did.

From my perspective, the organization is not a court of law. As such they have a huge possibility of bias and self interest.y can basically make their own laws and reach their own conclusions. Why has this case not been brought before a government court?
Because this not about laws. It is about contracts. The CAS in Lausanne which has decided upon the appeal and upheld the conviction but reduced the sentence, is a court of law, albeit a special one. It is the same for all sports, at least for the Olympic ones afaik. The sport association sets up its own tribunal which consists of expert for the rules to get a quick and fair decision instead of a decade-long deconstruction of the rules and contracts by non-expert lawyers. The tribunal's decision can be appealed to the CAS in Lausanne which hands down an arbitration with which the parties usually comply. The CAS' arbitration can be brought before a regular court of law, and sometimes it is, but you would need a really good case. Most of the time regular courts would just not pick up a case when a reasonable arbitration has already been made and no crime has been committed.
One more thing, the US Open 2021, the AUS 2023, the US Open 2023, at least these tournaments, were scripted, in my opinion, too many "coincidences".

I’m confused they can take steroids if they have an injury that they’re fixing that’s the part I don’t get so the steroid doesn’t that like work on all parts of their body so OK they’re fixing the calf but it makes your arms stronger as well you know so it’s just not fair. There's evidence that there's doubt. If someone spikes your drink, how does that make you guilty of illegal drug use?
We are talking doping in sports here, not whether you should go to jail for illegal drug use. If you want to ply tennis professionally , you have to sign a contract that you comply with certain anti-doping regulations. On of them is that your body has to be free from certain amounts of banned substances. If your body shows certain amounts of banned substances, you are not allowed to compete, because that's in the contract, and that would be unfair to other players. You can then plead that it was an innocent mistake, or an act of magic, but the burden would be on you to convince the arbitrators to make an exception from the contractual agreed upon consequence.

I really think bringing Nadal and Serena's TUE history into this discussion is absolute BS. There is a significant difference between a corticosteroid (Prednisolone in Serena's case), an anabolic steroid and Roxadustat. Ultimately though, the athlete is responsible for what they put inside their body, ignorance is simply not an adequate defense.

shes a hipocrit, 2/3 years ago she was Miss anti dopping NO MATTER WHAT! anything was excuses and people needed to be BANNED to keep the santity and integrity of the game yet now she's on her situation. Totally changed her stance and worse she comes back as a hero...a poor victim. While in the past she shamed those on similar situation.
Why are they testing for recreational drugs at all? It's ridiculous, they don't enhance performance, if anything the opposite. If a player wants to take cocaine, that's their problem, it won't help them win tennis matches and it's no concern of the tennis authorities. Those authorities should not be sticking their noses into the private lives of players except where absolutely necessary.
Some may argue that these recreational drugs are illegal, but of course legality varies across the world. More importantly, all manner of acts are illegal, but the tennis authorities don't take it upon themselves to pre-emptively investigate all possible crimes. You don't get tennis authorities doing surprise audits of player's finances to ensure they are not committing tax fraud. Or any number of other illegal acts one could imagine players may be engaged in.
That would be an intolerable invasion of privacy. And so is testing for substances that have no known performance enhancing properties.

Saying that Troicki tried to avoid testing sounds very bad, but this is not true. As I remember he asked official if he can postpone this particular test because he was sick and do test in morning, and official said that it would be alright. After that he received longer ban than others (mentioned in video and probably many others from different sports).
Troicki is portrayed here worse than others who failed tests, or a clever guy who avoided testing three times. They are criminals compared to him, they literary broke the rules and were caught; while he was mislead by official. It would be reasonable to explain what happened (like you did for others even though they failed test and, if your story is truth, they knew really well what they did) it will take 30 secs, your story wouldn't turn away for 1-2 more sentences. Probably that was not intentional, but if I didn't knew about this particular case I would have impression that he was clearly a cheater - skiping test intentionally sounds like he was sure that he would fail, and that was not the case here, he provided already urine test (according to "The Guardian" post).
The Williams comments are just par for the course with her, she’s never really properly acknowledged anyone who bests her.
I do not know why we are even discussing this. The rules are clear. Every substance in an athlete's body is his/her responsibility. Period. In terms of doping it makes no difference if it was knowingly/with ill intent or not. Every athlete knows and consents to this.
imho the only discussion to be had is about an athlete's moral compass, which is, however, an afterthought in terms of the doping violation itself.
f.ex. the use of EPO has the same penalty as the (even accidental) use of banned supplements. I find this adequate since the athletes knew about the rule from the beginning. However, I also despise the EPO-doper away more then the supplement-user.
Do I think the rules should allow for differentiation between the two? Yes. However, I also think that it's bs to accept a rule and only cry about it later when the negative effect hits.
The conclusion of the investigation doesn't not sound very convincing. It is unfair to ban Halep for such a ridiculous long time on such an unconvincing conclusion. Halep is unfairly punished. This is ridiculous.

Sounds unfair based on the much shorter/reduced bans of other players. Especially since it’s a less obvious substance as amphetamine, coke or moldonium (sp?)as we understand it today. I think sexism has a part, but just one of many factors for a ban so long. The sh-t-show over figure skater Kamila Valieva (2022 Olympic fave who placed 4th after her 2nd/2 skates w/all the media BS), FINALLY just resulted in 4 yrs (but starting on xmas 2021, retroactively)& her coach/training school are just let off the hook like in this case, even with a then-15 y/o. Sleazy. Like the French tennis coach, that skating coach is notorious for doping & controlling her athletes, but gets a “coach of the year” award as she throws her teenage pupil who made her tons of $ under the bus
Halep has a point when she refers to the modern game of tennisas well as her specific , female power , back of the court game as not relying on a high level of cardio vascular endurance .
Side to side running needs endurance but not to the level of an all court serve volley game which the tour has been trying their best to destroy along with the racquet companies and stores .
This is biting back the industry ! Who didn't already think that Serena Williams wasn't masculine already and now add steroids to it . Quantum is at fault ! While they may sell to hundreds of athletes , how many of those are profession athletes that must be tested . This product would be a banned substance and supplements are not FDA approved . Moratiglue is also definetly at fault as well as the lazy scapegoating tennis federation .
Lastly , perhaps her breast reduction contributed to her marriage breakup . It was a sad day :(
