If he can get in my personal space, why can't I get in his? It didn't take long and he put his seat back :D Of course, if somebody asks me nicely if they can recline their seat, I don't have problem with it.

    Europeans aren't so consumer entitled as Americans. Europeans see that as long as you can fly for as cheap as $20, who cares about in-flight entertainment? They just want to get to their destination cheap and safely.

      It depends. I'd certainly consider Ryanair for a short hop from Brussels to Berlin, for example - I know I'd easily survive that. But I'd be very reluctant to book a 5-hour Ryanair flight from Stockholm (read: Nyköping, two hours by bus from Stockholm already) to Tenerife.

    • @jadedjester3010
      @jadedjester3010 6 років тому +7

      Adriel Otto Adriel Otto true, but with his comment about the in flight entertainment, a lot of American aircraft don’t even have them so I don’t know where he’s going with that lol, now with the ones that do, it’s obviously a business model for better service rather than being ‘consumer entitled’. Even with increased competition on routes, you can get really cheap fares on the big 3 airlines, depending on the route. Another thing, In the U.S. there is a huge market for business travelers etc. who will pay for the service on routes (like cross country) rather than fly on a low-budget airline.

    • @goytabr
      @goytabr 6 років тому +4

      Jaded Jester, what really keeps business travelers tied to legacy carriers (and the latter dependent on them) is not really on-board service - that's at most an added bonus. It's basically two things: first, the ability to have a flexible schedule (to arrange or reschedule flights, often on very short notice, as work demands, which often involves not only price but some goodwill and preparedness by airlines to accomodate that), and second, comprehensive mileage programs, as they fly a lot and easily accrue miles.
      In fact, in terms of domestic on-board service in the U.S., JetBlue (which has a hybrid, intermediate model between full-service and low-cost) is the highest-ranking in most reviews, followed by Virgin America (before the Alaska acquisition), but the Big 3 still dominate the business market, while offering on-board service that is getting closer and closer to what LCCs offer. But I agree with you that by shopping around and booking in advance, it is perfectly possible for the average non-business traveler to get fares on the Big 3 that are competitive with LCC fares. The same is true for European legacy carriers and those in many other parts of the world (e.g., Japan), especially when you consider the additional fees of many LCCs.

    Funny thing, I'm 2 meters tall and never had an issue about the "limited legroom" with Ryanair (even longer flights, to the Acores, Canary Islands, Morocco, Malta do work). It's way worse on Wizz Air. It might be a matter of what you're used to - at home, I can chill all day long in nice chairs etc., so it's not necessary during a 3-4 hour flight to get the same experience.
    We've just flew back from Marrakech to Eindhoven 2 nights ago and booked that flight for approx. € 85,00 (2 + 1 baby) at very short notice (we wanted to return earlier from Morocco, so we won't use our Ryanair-Flight to Cologne tomorrow). It's from time to time so inexpensive that you CAN decide just not to use your flight, and if you take that into the calculation, it also adds up to the revenue. :)
    In Germany, there's often a lot of Ryanair-Bashing going on. We fly quite a lot within Europe, mostly on FR, and NEVER made any bad experiences - the crews are always friendly and take care about you (especially when traveling with a baby!), I got placed on the emergency exits for free countless times, and on a flight from Belgium to Varna in December we had the nicest chats with a purser you can imagine. On the other hand, last October, we went to New York on Lufthansa Economy, and I'd wish (I'm 2 m tall) for it to be a Ryanair-flight: Crew was VERY impolite / unfriendly (and I'm not too picky on that, usually), the food was a nightmare (but Germans might have been lucky, as they got cheap alcohol for free... ...), they even skipped breakfast on the way back to Europe due to turbulences (which were not worth to talk about and happened way after the point they should have started handing out breakfast, so seemingly, it was just used as an excuse) and no chance to buy yourself a "fresh" can of Pepsi Max or just a Twix, Snickers whatever. So what's the benefit in terms of Service? Paying WAY more to have less or same legroom, an unfriendly crew, shitty food (but, yeah, "included")? Next time, I'll go to the US with Norwegian. If you pay 10 Euro on the menu with Ryanair, you get a - for me - tasty and hot Panini, Pringles and a can of Pepsi.
    And the new cabin of Ryanair (not showed in this video) is just amazing and on par with like SAS. :-) At the moment, I'm getting it on around 1/2-1/3 of my flights.
    Also, take into consideration the new cabin bag policy of Ryanair, so boarding NOW's way more relaxed, as you NEED to drop your cabin bag prior to the flight (or pay extra).
    About the busses on the Airport (Bergamo): Economically, it makes no sense to drive around the apron in empty busses. Those are big busses, each one of them is allowed to take up +100 people - so wy using 3 of them? For me, it's okay to drive a few seconds / minutes in a packed bus.
    Of course: If you CAN afford to fly Business Class on Qatar, yeah, it'll be a whole lot better than Ryanair. But Lufthansa's economy ain't.

    Uhm, paying 20$ for two flights and complaining that there is no Wifi etc? Plus, it's a European airline, so why should the accept non-European credit cards or currency?
    I haven't been in Budapest yet, that "terminal" looked indeed terrible, but I fly quite often from Dublin to the UK (and other European destinations) and usually you go through regular terminals with seating and food etc (like in Bergamo). And they are currently renewing their fleet, the new aircraft actually have nicer seats and it doesn't look so cheap and plasticky anymore.

    • @marcellkondor3414
      @marcellkondor3414 6 років тому +8

      The "terrible" terminal building in Budapest is NOT the terminal, there is nice, normal terminal with shops, seating, food etc! This is just the pre-boarding waiting area for the low-cost arilines, but every people walking through the normal terminal.

    • @axelpatsch5939
      @axelpatsch5939 6 років тому

      ok, that wasn't clear from the video but most of the airports I go through also have a decent waiting/boarding area, also for Ryanair. This reminds me of the waiting area in Lübeck where they had set-up a big tent.

    • @colt-one
      @colt-one 6 років тому +1

      The airport shouldn't require ANYONE to board from something like that. It looks like something you'd find at some small Siberian frontier town.

    • @Romans8-9

      Because not every passenger on board a European airline is a European. Believe it or not international tourists use European airlines to travel quite regularly.

    • @markoobid2005
      @markoobid2005 5 років тому +2

      If Budapest Airport didn't set up this "tent" waiting area, it would have gone bankrupt. Because the situation was that MALEV (Hungarian national airline) went bankrupt and Ryanair was willing to take over MALEV's routes, but under some special requirements. One of them was also setting up a walk-boarding area close to the runway to minimize turnaround times. BUD Airport lost a majority of passengers because of MALEV's bankrupcy and couldn't afford to decline Ryanair's offer and requirements.
      Originally it was just an outdoor waiting area outside the terminal (ua-cam.com/video/DOWRQVr96lg/v-deo.html), but then it was transferred into a real indoor waiting area.

      @Felice Graziano Ryanair air is a low cost airline that doesn't fly to international airports. International airports are home to airlines like British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Emirates, which have way bigger planes. Thus meaning that the airports that Ryanair fly to have much smaller runways which means that the pilots don't have a lot of time to bring the airplane down smoothly. Anothe reason is Ryanair is in high demand because it is a low cost airline which means that they need new pilots a lot so the pilots may not be as experienced.

They are currently building the new concourse which will have all the gates for international flight like BUD-YYZ or BUD-Beijing. The low cost half of the terminal is being built last and will be completed in the next couple of years. Also I feel like you should have done Wizz Air instead of Norwegian as Wizz Air is bigger fits more into the category of an LLC than Norwegian. Budapest is also the main hub for Wizz Air!

      So let's go back in time to 2010.
      Both terminals at Ferihegy (Budapest Airport, today it's called Liszt Ferenc Airport) were in operation.
      Terminal 1 served the very low cost airlines like Ryanair, and Terminal 2 served the traditional airlines.
      Fast forward to 2012 February 3rd. On this day the Hungarian national airline, Malév went bankrupt. This lead to a huge drop in passengers. Most of Terminal 2 was unused, so in order to keep costs down, the management decided to move the low coast airlines to terminal 2, and shut down terminal 1.
      After the crisis more and more people started to fly with the low cost airlines, cause Hungary is a very price sensitive market, and also the airlines wanted to keep their costs even lower. These things founded that lovely sheet metal shed. (First it was just a tent, if i recall correctly)

      I have no idea malev went bankrupt until I read it here. Flew it to Budapest in 2009, quite OK with good load factor too. So the only option to Budapest with the low cost carrier.

      Actually a lot of airlines (Lufthansa, Airfrance, Emirates, etc) have flights, some even incrased the number of flights per week, but still not as many with Malév I think.

    Full overhead baggagebins are a nuisance. I experienced that recently with TUI. But the cabinstaff assisted in finding space. How is that with Ryan air. Do they assist or do one have to find room by oneself?

    Hi Daniel, it would be fantastic if after this exercise you would then fly BA short haul in Economy to see how it compares against Easyjet, Ryanair and Norwegian, especially when they launch their high density a320s and a321s with the seat pitch reduced to 29 inches, less than Ryanair apparently. I hope you will consider that. Safe flights!

      I actually prefer Ryanair to BA, at least the prices are good and no one is under any illusion that any luxury will be involved. I also find the Ryanair crew to be more courteous and helpful.

    • @tomburke5311
      @tomburke5311 6 років тому +1

      I'm the opposite - I've given up flying Ryanair from the UK to Crete (a holiday I take most years). I prefer to drive to Heathrow and use BA. Their baggage policies are friendlier, the terminal experience is much superior, the flights are at better times, and once I've added things like hold baggage costs into the equation, the costs aren't dissimilar (in summer).
      That said, I'd still use Ryanair or EasyJet for a hop to Paris or somewhere close-by as long as I was just taking cabin baggage.

      I fly Iberia sometimes, and their A319's have 28 inches of leg room according to SeatGuru and it really shows. I'm not tall, so I can manage (getting out and in the window seats is a challenge though), but there was a tall guy beside me and he really suffered during the 2 hour flight from Brussels to Madrid. It's a lot worse than Ryanair.

    • @oswaldosampaio3216

      Gosh, I thought the 29 pitch was already outrageous but 28 is even more extreme... People will be standing before we know... : )

    Ryanair allows everyone to fly, I often pay 9,20,30 euros for a flight I love them, they've improved a lot, I prefer them to easyjet cheaper and 2 luggages are allowed, Norwegian as o'learly said is a low cost for Norway not for Europe 😉 #flyfr

    Good video as usual Daniel. I have known 2 parties that have got cheap Ryanair flights Bergamo - Belfast recently. The first booked well in advance and got a €10 ticket each way. The second booked the day before for €50 one way to Bergamo. That's about 2.5 hr trip! 'Nobody does it cheaper' should be their motto. I only used them once and it was a 4.5 hour flight to the Canaries. It was a tight seat but times were convenient, boarding was orderly, staff were courteous and I saved €50 on return trip compared to Aer Lingus.

    I generally *only* fly with Ryanair. I never flew with anything else - and I actually don't want to. Simply because it's so damn cheap but you still get to your goal pretty safe and fast. Seriously, I never ever had any delay with Ryanair. Most of the times I even was like 10 minutes early. And those are the things that I really want for flying. I don't actually care about a great Cabin-Design or super duper entertainment on board or Business Class or so. I just want to get safely and fast to where I want to get, which I do get with Ryanair all the Time.

    Hey Daniel.... Thanks for the review. Guess for students and such, this is probably a tolerable situation, for flights of short duration.
    For those of us a bit more on in years, we do tend to like a bit more comfort in our air travel.
    Do like the tarmac views and experience of boarding. SWA (Southwest) does still have that at some locations. Terminal amenities are much better.
    The original boarding shed looked like something out of the late 40's early 50's at LHR.
    Look forward to the remaining reviews.
    Cheers,
    Tony

    I was stuck in Milan for a couple hors after a not planned landing of my flight from Sicily to Frankfurt Hahn, and it was absolutely awful, the terminal was packed, it was really hot, we didn't get any drink coupons or something similar from Ryanair, and we were called to the terminal numerous times without a plane having actually arrived. So you can be glad your experience with the airport was a lot better than mine :D

    I have no choice but to fly Ryanair to get to my holiday destination in Crete. The best £20 you’ll be glad you spent is to book a seat in the front row directly behind the kitchen area. You get priority boarding and great leg room. So worth it. It’s really not a bad flight in those seats.

    In your comparison of flights it should be noted that the actual flight price also comes into question, i.e. what is the cost of a flight at the same time of day from the same airline to the same destination airport, not the same destination as Ryanair who do not fly to Dusseldorf Lohausen 7 km from city center, but to Dusseldorf, Weeze some 80 Km from Dusseldorf city center. Many more Ryanair routes use this trick.

    Our family flys Ryanair a lot, and sometimes we go back home early in the morning they make us wait outside in the cold. Once we waited 1 hour until we could actually get on our plane. The food is terrible the seats are cramped and you have little to no leg room. Unless you want a cheap flight to go somewhere you love I would not recommend if you want a nice flight

    I flew return with them a few months ago DUB-FAO-DUB. I had the same problem with chaotic queues to board with staff being very unhelpful both at the gates and at the electronic machines - treated like I should know how to use them! A race to get to the plane to find we had no pilot and left sitting on the tarmac waiting for one to arrive in Faro! And the landings were so fast and hard :/ Definitely makes me think about using them again despite the price. So stressful to use..
