Sabaton is a Swedish band and Joakim the Singer has a very pronounced rolled R on his tongue. Swedish people also use hard R on the tongue.

A Swede, especially from the Norther part of Sweden, speaking English with a heavy accent using Swedish rolling Rs sounds a bit Scottish as it is, so making it sound MORE Scottish is very easy if you have a feel for languages.

Joakim always seems to learn the "right way/ the local way" to pronounce things & no matter where they play he knows at least some words & sentences in the local language, which is really cool! According to him he's actively trying to learn something new every time they visit a country.
There was a russian expat reactor (reacting in english) a while back who said that Joakim sounded like he had bit of russian accent /pronounced words like a russian in "Defence of Moscow".
He obviously has a great ear for sounds, accents etc. being the main songwriter, but the rolling Rrr & the growly baritone is how he usually sounds (with some variation obviously).

Rolling R:s are very much used in Northern Sweden where he's from as well

I enjoyed your history talk in the beginning. I know the band is Swedish, but I have always pictured Joakim in a kilt, with a battle axe in hand. Thanks to @alancarter41 I now know why.

Great reaction. Jokim Broden is Swedish, and they roll their Rs when speaking English. For another banger about the Scottish revolution, you should listen to "Rebellion" by Grave Digger. They have a great live video from Wacken with Hansi Kursch of Blind Guardian and the cappella group Van Canto as guests. And as the cherry on top, a great bagpipe solo.

      No we don't. =P
This is what Joakim deliberately does while singing.
You only have to listen to one interview with Joakim to realise he doesn't do it when he speaks English. ;)

@@Tim_Nilsson Thank you for the correction, I should have said when singing in English.

Wooo Love to see more people react and explore Sabaton. :)
They've got so many great songs, but for visuals let me recommend you a song where the official music video is so worth watching.
And that is Sabaton - Christmas Truce. First world war, 1914, at Christmas when the (I guess) only recorded truce happened. The music video is too good to miss out on. And the song is very emotional.

We roll the letter R in Swedish.
Its not something we normally do when speaking or singing in English but Joakim initially started doing it to actually try to _hide_ his accent. I don't really see the logic in that but whatever. =P
I assume it later became sort of a signum so he kept on doing it.
You will here it in every song.
He doesn't do it when he speaks English.

Great reaction!🤘I see your point with the Scottish history and politics. Despite that, the Scots are often (maybe because of the history?) seen as badasses nobody should be messing with!💪 Yesterday me and my family returned from our vacation in London. Edinburgh and the rest of Scotland is on my bucket list for sure! Love the British Isles, the rich history and everything they have to offer a humble Swedish tourist like me... 😉

Great reaction. I wish I could disagree with you on current politics, but even as an Englishman I think you're right on the money there. Still, at least we can listen to good music while human wellbeing is flushed down the pan...
