In the post announcing the gen 12 renderer they teased about some feature after Vulkan implementation that they are "most excited about" which to me sounds like VR.
Way back when there was janky support for vr in sc. I used to stream it ever so often (some vids on my channel) and it was amazing to fly in 3d around the areana commander maps, also sat in my connie in vr in the hanger. This was on a dk1. Good times.
Its not ideal with a fixed monitor but I play with it all the time and jsut being able to quickly glance in a direction without having to change how Im using my controls at the moment is extremely useful. Also that as the same time you can use the FOIP feature to broadcast your face to other players,. Even as sparse and janky as it is right now is great to see some facial movement when interacting with others in game
Head tracking and having linked unmanned turrets is awesome, being able to strafe a more nimble enemy with your super hornets top and chin turret is FUN.
Played SC for a few days. I really love the concept, this is one of the games I could get lost in completely, and build an entire virtual life inside 🤣 But I feel a bit too old for the grind that comes with that playstyle, and I already play ED and DCS in VR, so... But the day this gets 3d support, I will buy the quickest ship in the game, and just fly around, ignoring the rest of the game 😁
Head tracking is awesome, I use it for all my sims. VR rules for immersion though ... its a personal preference regardless which you go for as they both come with pros and cons. Seeing my peripherals, 2nd screen (OBS, discord, etc), and utilising high end monitor performance ticks the boxes for me at a fraction of the price, but the immersion experience from VR is outstanding. @BlackMaze - Nice flying 👊
Great flying. I usually hate this kind of music but it really worked for this. While I did enjoy the video I was disappointed because I thought you would be comparing different types of head tracking devices. Still really glad to have watched it though, might even use this footage to explain to my friends why I love this game so much.
So I got Head Tracking (Delan Clip) about a month ago. First thing I found/felt was the monitor felt too small height wise, (34" Ultrawide) so I went and bought a 48" UltraGear, dialed in the tracking again and that felt SOO much better! (I'd hate to use tracking on a 27" or lower) Another thing I found is that I don't really utilize it much for racing. It's awesome for flying around and PVP, but I found with racing I'm pretty much just aiming straight ahead. I think a peripheral setup would be more beneficial for racing, like triple moniotor SIM Racing setups.
The first time I saw the work Palmer Lucky was doing I knew that VR flight sims were going to be the only thing that really takes full advantage of the tech. I think we are still a long way out from having VR become what it should be, the quality headsets are far too expensive and bulky. Awesome flying though that was very impressive! I do think though that the time Star Citizen is fully released consumer VR headsets will be at the right quality and price point for most people.
It's going to be so darn awesome when persistence and server meshing is complete and we can just be traveling about and then encounter players like you doing these kinds of things in game. I am looking forward to getting dual sticks
I honestly am excited for this future. We are to young in technology to explore the stars but with things like star citizen and vr technology evolving we will be allowed to live a similar life through that. We just cant let it consume us even though we want it to
I dont use VorpX to play in VR, i use OpenTrack and use it within my headsets "desktop" tho i would need to up the resolution to make it not as fuzzy when i enlarge it to fit my peripheral vision and some.
Never thought about setting up the vr with this. What's the process to get it working? Last time I heard of something similar was for ArmA 3, but had high motion sickness due to the low res of vr at the time, zero depth from the 2d imaging, and weird motions. Motion sickness isn't too much of a concern for me though. I play DiRT Rally in VR.
The BIG PROBLEM with VR is that you completely lose access to your keyboard and mouse. an Head tracker or Eye tracker allows you yo see your surrounding and input complex command but with a VR helmet you cannot.
@@rhadiem That's a good suggestion. SC already supports some degree of multi-mode with the division between flight, vehicle and fps and I'm using that, but I know that VKB makes some tools that could possibly do a better job.
You can actually use KBM with a VR headset as well as a Hotas. Many people do it. Check out VRCitizen. Knowing how to touch type combined seeing under the headset if needed makes it quite easy to do. It's certainly not perfect but I used to play exclusively in VR.
You probably haven't used a modern VR headset. Early stuff was when people got motion sick, now if you have a midrange GPU or a Quest 2 running native games at 90fps+ you should be fine. Probably worth updating your experience at some point. 100% it did cause most motion sickness early on, but that's basically cured now. I have an Index and a Quest 2, also have owned/used a Vive, Oculus DK2 and DK1 and the new ones are much better. Get a Quest 2 imo, until Valve comes out with a new headset. You can PC game wirelessly with it using Steam and Virtual Desktop.
I recon the biggest challenge would be mapping all those keybindings to actions in VR because you can't see your keyboard anymore. You can't even see the buttons on your joysticks / throttle. But I don't know anything about VR so I'm probably just talking nonsense lol. Awesome flying though!
That would be a little bit of a problem, but you can do a lot by feel especially with joysticks. Hmmm... the flying was excellent I must say even though you crashed at the end and possibly crashed a couple of other times before you cut to another flight. I fly pretty well myself but not better than what you displayed in the video! Gives me something to shoot for! Nice work. Question though: So, was that flying in VR or was that you imagining being in VR while playing SC? So, "Head Tracking Sucks" is your opinion, and I can see your perspective (no pun intended) when dealing with only flying around and nothing more. I for one use Tobii eyetracker and in my opinion VR doesn't come close. What I would like to see is someone using VR and not only flying but also performing other Star Citizen functions and tasks with the VR goggles on. I like Tobii because I don't want to be feeling around like I'm in the dark for other keys and controls that I have. Ya, my HOTAS, I have everything in flight bound for the most part and could easily do flight with VR goggles. SC has too many buttons to bind between HOTAS, Keyboard & Mouse, Joystick and whatever controllers we use. I have two smart pads set up for my MFDs through GameGlass. Although this, i still wish for a better implementation of G-forces into player head movement. Currently most of the time the player´s head is fixed to the crossair and doesnt tilt or only tilts slightly when applying G-forces in turns. Amplifying this would also make black- and redouts much more belivable and expectable.
Are you really on a 2080Ti? Thats insane if you are!
Yeah but the performance was terrible 😏
This game will make every other game out there look like a joke, very soon.
I bet you are looking forward to the time trial race tracks and new freedom in city areas.
Until they make VR as light as your glasses I’ll pass 😑
i use tobii, i stopped using it after 1 month lol
HP Reverb G2?
Nice screens, crap tracking/controllers.
Yep!
So very true!
You move like a drone
You do realize that head tracking encompasses more than your VR headset right? Track IR, Tobii Eye Tracker... Might want to consider changing the name of your video.
