    Keep them coming lads, there's always something new to learn. I've been filling spools for the last 50 odd years and have never been totally satisfied with the results. Going to stick to your suggestions and see how I get on. 😊 Great video. Ps no more pencils lol.

  • @Lens98052
    @Lens98052 3 роки тому +5

    Great video, especially the knots and backing info. The amount of tension you apply with your fingers when spooling is important as it remains in the spooled line as energy and builds up. Too much tension with a stretchy line can cause problems. Also, if you apply a lot of tension and spool up in a bucket the way shown in this video, occasionally the line will slip off the side of the spool instead of the spool spinning it off, and everytime you do this a twist is introduced into the line. If you apply a lot of tension, these twists will travel up the line and accumulate, which can cause knotting problems later when caasting, or even during the spooling. That is why using something that forces the line spool to not deliver line from the side is important. If you are lucky enough to fish a barbel water where each fight causes several hundred yards of line to be stripped off against the drag, then this will also introduce twist into the line over time. You will have to untwist the line after enough fish otherwise you will get issues. This is a major advantage of baitcasting reels to play big fish as this is not an issue.

    Really helped me as a beginner. Was all set for a pencil and two people but the bucket tip worked great. Only thing as an improvement would be darker or thicker line as was difficult to follow the knots. Thank-you😊 once again

    Hi ya, im a regular viewer and really enjoy your content.
    So I thought I'd come here for a common issue concerning line spooling, line tangles and hopefully proper solutions.
    1. I have seen Spooling in hot water, cold water, or even seen info where you shouldn't spool up using water and even soaking in hot water after spooling as a solution. Someone called it spool to line memory ( something to do with how it reacts after coming off the factory spool)
    It's very confusing.
    2. Nesting around the reel after casting.
    3. How to avoid the line wrapping around and even under the spool, its always mystified me how that happens.
    I know that when you buy a new reel they sometimes come with info but Im sure a video on this would make a great, informative watch, esp for newbies or frustrated anglers alike

    Hey guys, absolutely love the channels and these tutorials are great!
    I know this might be such a super simple request but could be so helpful for the amateurs like me -
    Could you do a video on how to set up your rig with bite alarms please. By which I mean the rod angle on the rest and alarm, how tight the line should be going into the water, the amount of line used for the receiver, the reel set up etc etc.
    Just think it would be a great little video to help to get the perfect set up going on.
    Thanks!!

    Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.

    Once you switch to braid you never go back. You can cast a mile, avoid snags, steer fish and deal way better with abrasion. Just remember that knots using braid are sometimes different from those used for mono and fluro.
    Throw a meter of fluorocarbon at the end before your terminal tackle. It gives you some stretch without sacrificing a whole lot of sensitivity. Without a leader, a rod with a modern fast action can also help keep fish on despite the braid's lack of stretch.
    One problem with braid is that hard force on the line will sometimes cause thinner diameter braid to dig into the spool when you're reeling. This is easily solved by using a heavier line with a greater outer diameter. a lot of brands of braid at 30 lb test and above fit the bill.
    Just always keep in mind that using high poundage braid puts your rod at risk of breaking if your drag is too tight.

    • @finnbriscoe9218
      @finnbriscoe9218 3 роки тому +5

      Hey if you haven’t learnt this already (which you probably have) but all it is a setting the reel to set how easy it is for fish to pull line so for say if you had your drag set very loose even small silver fish like roach would be able to pull line but if you had it set very tight not even 50 lb carp or pike would be able to pull any line off your reel and if your fishing somewhere which is very because if you hook in to fish the is surging toward a snag you can lock your drag up and stop that fish from reaching them and increasing your chances greatly of land the fish

    I filled up a basic reel recently, as per all instructions and tutorials, didn’t even go as far as the lip at all, kept lower to reduce chance of coiling off the spool, yet lo and behold I had reel tangle after tangle as it coiled off after casting. But it wasn’t all the time, probably 50-50. Weird

    Hi guys,great video.Im spooling up my first ever reel today with 8lb mono and your video has helped alot..Just a question.. Does it matter which way the spool is facing and the line coming off the spool? Ive seen other videos that mention this but not in yours..does it matter??

    • @james6495
      @james6495 Рік тому +1

      You want the line coming off the spool counter clockwise as it goes onto the reel clockwise. This will keep it from coiling up. After putting a few turns on the reel, stop and if the line is twisting by the eyelet, turn the spool of line in the bucket over and start again.

      Cheers! We enjoy fishing for carp a lot here in the UK and Europe more widely, they fight hard and there are so many tactics to enjoy all year round. And we like the way they look! The kind of carp fishing we tend to do is known as 'catch and release' because we safely release the fish back into the water without harm :)

    I tried and failed amazingly. Apparently the fluoro line has a ton of memory which i didn't realize. I think i put it on backwards, because it just unraveled off completely. Lesson learned I guess. Note, I did have the label upright on the new spool of line and flat too. Hmm. Could it just be old crappy line maybe? It was 10lb fluoro daiwa samurai line.

    When my spool is loaded I cast out a dexter(no hooks) then wind the braid on the spool under tension

    I've tried the method of filling the spool with the mono line coming off the donor spool counter-clockwise, and then letting the filled spool sit in warm-hot tap water for two reps of 15 minutes each: limited results. With normal use the line will eventually take proper shape, even just sitting on the reel spool in storage, correct?

    Great video, thank you! Couple of quick questions if you don't mind? How long would you leave line on a reel before removing and replacing with new line? Also, does line get damaged or ruined just being left on an unused reel for a period of multiple years? Thanks a lot!

    • @fishingtutorials
      @fishingtutorials  4 роки тому

      Hi mate! It depends how much it gets used really! We replace our line once a year, but we fish quite a bit. If you keep your line out of the sun when storing it then it should be fine for a couple of years easy, but if your using it every week then you’ll end up needing to replace more often! It’s light that seems to damage it over time, and of course dragging it over gravel or through weeds.
