My family have been GM guys through and through for 4 generations. Every 6-7 years I buy another new GM performance car, build it to my liking, get it out of the garage on nice weekends, sell it, then repeat. Right now, I have a '24 Z06 3LZ parked in my garage. It is the craziest car that I've owned and I've built some gnarly cars. Custom grind cams, headers, catless, coilovers, professional weight reduction, etc.. I am not hating on the GTD, but it is a ~$325,000 vehicle. You could buy two of my Z06's and still have a nice stack left over for mods or whatever your heart desires. For me, I'm not impressed. The Z06's 7:10 is not official and when the ZR1 is released, it is supposed to start at approximately $180k according to sources. I guarantee it stomps the GTD.

@ Christian Gebhardt set it and he has also set times for #12, 19, 21, 23, 29, 32, 34, 36, 37, 41, 45, and 48 fastest times on the track. I think he’s qualified as a professional
Mustang GTD is impressive: I have owned both Corvettes and Mustang GT500, so I can be totally objective. That's a cooking time around that dangerous 'Ring.

I have always been a Mustang guy but the newer generations do not look as good and are much heavier. The Shelby GT350 and the 2020 GT500 are the last mustangs I have any interest in. My C8 Z06 looks sooooooo good…. And the performance is crazy

I'm a Ford guy, but I believe the ZR-1 is capable because of physics and aerodynamics. There was a reason why GM went mid engine like the Ford GT. If the Mustang goes mid-engine it will be more than capable of dealing with the Corvette or Porsche for that matter!

Two engineering marvels and breakthroughs. What break through in either technology has FORD come up with in the last 40 years or more? Give me an intelligent answer.

On the flip side if they limit production it and with the cost it could be a good collectors item for the ballers out there. Im flat broke for the E-ray coming in a few days. I was sitting here thinking about the lap time that the Shelby GT350 laid down it was 7 minutes and 32 seconds 34 seconds separate these two cars One car was flat plane crank while the other has a bigger chassis with a cross-plane crank just imagine if the GT350R was equipped with the transaxle from the GTD it would have murdered that track time And remember the GT350R produces 5 26 horses I hate to say it because I'm truly a Ford fan but for dropped the ball on this one they had an Golden goose in the GT350 but let a rare opportunity like this car went by but I'm still proud of them performing at this level where the air is rare for a muscle car
The C8 ZR1 is faster in straights, the power to weight ratio is also in the ZR1s favor. The real question is can it break as hard and corner as fast. I think no doubt it will be sub 7 minutes on the nurburgring, I just don't know if it can edge out the GTD. On the other hand you have to ask yourself, why would I buy a GTD when I can buy two C8 ZR1s for the same price? GTD $325,000, C8 ZR1 $160,000. The gap needs to be as least 5-8 sec to even argue the price difference is justified. From somone who put 2,000 track miles on a C7 ZR1 ZTK I can tell you the new one will be hard to beat. I do daily drive a Dark Horse so I'll be happy no matter what car comes out on top. 🇺🇸
I dont know if it will. But i look at it this way. It took $100,000.00 more to shave about 7 seconds off the Z06 time. And for most of us, that's just dumb. But yes, it is an impressive time.
No, lap was in August. They tried again in last September when AMG ONE lapped but track was not good. AMG GT BS 6:48 lap was done on a damp track. Where straits were damped. I just rewatched the lap several times.
No, GM does not have a problem. This Mustang is actually a GT3 race car and cost $325,000. If the ZR1 Corvette costs 50% more than what it's going to be and was not as good of a performance car as the GTD, then GM would have a problem.
Agree with all your points, David!👍 WTF doesn’t Chevy seem serious about putting in the effort to push for the best Nurburgring times! Seems to me they take a very nonchalant attitude when it comes to Ring performance. Unlike Ford, who were totally committed to putting it all out there to get a sub 7 minute performance out of the GTD. They chose the nest driver who knows the course and practiced for hours on the simulator so that he was totally prepared to give it his best effort. Ok, I feel better now that I got my rant in!😂

Hi, just to make it clear the guy who drove the Mustang over the Nürburgring he is German. He know what he did because he knows the track like many other Germans and it was only this car on the track without public. The Z06 is for sure is not slower if you put a German raising driver in the seat and not an American Driver without experience for this track GM made everything wrong Ford made everything right that’s the only difference

No one and I mean no one is going to drive this car flat out for 12.9 miles like the Nurburgring but it sure is fun to see what the manufacturers can squeeze out of these cars there!

The GT350 would have been an all time great if it was a touch lighter…… like the Boss 302 right around 3200 lbs but nonetheless it’s an AMAZING machine and one of my favorite all time mustangs
