Thank you so much for posting!! Brought back memories! I saw this tour back in the day in Boston and was so excited to see the fabulous original staging, choreography and costumes!! Today’s productions are such a bore to me! Nothing beats the original! It always amazed me how much Natalie Toro looked like Elaine Paige in this!
I wish the second act was posted so I could see that again!

I love the magnificent original staging. Excellent cars with Natalie and Raul.

What an all star cast! Raul is one of the greatest. Natalie’s work in Broadway’s Tale of Two Cities is thrilling. Raymond has such a deep recognizable voice and he’s such friendly guy

How I love Hal Prince's original staging of this show. So simple, yet tremendously effective and thrilling! I saw this production twice; once with Natalie Toro as Eva and another time with the Eva alternate Ana Maria Andricain. Both were fantastic. I had always wanted to see the original staging and I did see several productions before this one that attempted to recreate it but this here was the real deal. The full-scale original complete with that floor that lights up and the huge screen that appears to shrink and expand as it rides upstage and downstage. Even better this production recreated all of Larry Fuller's choreography from the original production, something I feel adds a tremendous amount of subtext and thrilling moments to this show. I wish I had seen it more than twice.
I saw a 2000 production starring Valerie Perri in the lead role that perfectly recreated this very staging. I had no idea Perri would be playing Eva and had no idea it would be a replica of the original so when I sat with my program I was delighted to see I would catch Perri's Eva once again after having enjoyed her do the role several years earlier in another production. I remember taking it all in because I loved her Eva and she had been doing the role for a long time and wondered if that production would be the last one. It did turn out to be her last Evita and I was so glad to have seen her one more time.
This Eva--Natalie Toro--I really grew to love as well. I at first wasn't too thrilled with her very youthful-sounding voice (being used to the power and more mature sound of Patti LuPone) but I love her acting and she added lots of comedic bits that bring a whole new meaning to some scenes. And her voice...just listen to that voice. Beautiful vibrato and she nails every note. Wish I would've caught Toro in my absolute favorite musical of all time that I've seen 30 times...Les Miserables. Toro played Eponine on Broadway. Would've loved to have seen her in that!
At any rate...NOTHING beats Hal Prince's original production! Bring it back!!

I feel as though all of the return productions and revival productions and anniversary productions and every big new production gets a phone call from ALW to the music director at some point in time... "make sure to put the guitars in and highlight them. it was always a rock opera", and I am here for it all day. Getting those wails over everything that we know and expect to hear just adds a layer of excitement and visceral thrill that you just can't get any other way.

Unfortunately ALW is notorious for trying to scrub the rock from his early work as to make himself seem more like a classical composer and can be seen especially with the JCS revival in the early 90's and with Phantom which was originally intended to have much more of that rock sound as heard on the LP, but by the mid 80's the synthesizer was more in favor of electric guitar riffs. By the time EVITA made it to Broadway in 79' there was very little Rock influence left on the orchestrations and was only present in this anniversary production because of the movie which had brought back many of the guitar riffs from the original concept recording as well as the song 'The lady's got potential'. Another good example of ALW bastardizing his music to fit modern music standards is with the Starlight Express refresh in the 90's in which the whole score was reorchestrated to fit a more 90's sound as opposed to the freaky and funky experimental synthesizer sound we all know and love. Love ALW but like George Lucas, he needs to leave his work alone after its been perfected in its definitive form.

Thank you so much for posting this! I had no idea that a higher quality version existed! It’s a shame that the second act is lost as of now, but regardless I love this!

There is a copy of the whole show but no where near this quality! It’s truly more like what you’d think a bootleg would look like! If i remember correctly the tape speed somehow had been changed so instead of extended play, it ran short thus the necessity of an additional tape! The show is not long. It would have fir on one tape! Hopefully it’ll surface. What a joy to get to see this alll these years later!! Halden (Eva’s Attaché Rainbow Tour)

Very good production. Webber is a musical genius. His blend of Catholic church religious style and "big number" stage music in the opening number is brilliant. Raul as Che was excellent.

I’ve remembered Angela Covington’s “Another Suitcase” (at 44:13) for nearly 25 years! Such a lovely and powerful voice. Great to hear it again; I’ve never heard a better version.
