Some movie or show HAS to put this in the background during the start of the adventure when someone is riding through an open but hilly enviroment! It's perfect fantasy drama!
I didn't think you'd know this song. It's a nineteenth-century poem originally about the US Thanksgiving holiday but these days more often with Christmas words. When I was in school, it was sung a lot (badly) by young schoolchildren. This Pentatonix version is like the kind of thing choir kids do when they're bored, but in this case sung expertly in a really creative, epic arrangement.
Right? I was always SO SMUG because we literally drove over a river and through the woods to my grandma's house. It's absolutely what we choir kids would do, ramp up the ridiculous with something mundane. They killed it here, it's the most theater geek shit ever and I'm living for it!
Fun fact! If you watch the behind the scenes for this, Scott was in like 6 inch heels. And since he's already 6'3, he was like ducking under doorframes 🤣. I think the choice of elements for the trio goes great with their voices. Mitch's light highs are like the wisping wind, Scott's riffs are like the thrashing water, and Kirsten's belts are like a raging fire.
@@GOTGames You should! All their behind the scenes stuff is pretty fun. One of my favorites is their behind the scenes of Making Chistmas. They also have a whole series called PTXperience for their 2018 and 2019 tours on their UA-cam.
I definitely recommend checking out the behind the scenes making of their album Evergreen which has this song on it. It’s fantastic to see their creative process!!
You should check out their Lucky Charms cereal commercial and their episode on Sesame Street where they are counting. Who would have thought their harmonies would teach kids to count?
I was much like you when I saw this song on their Evergreen album list - "What's that? I don't recognize that title." Then as soon as I heard Scott start the lyrics, I said, "Wait. It's THAT song?" I've heard the song any number of times, but the name just never stuck with me before. If you haven't seen it (I didn't see it on your channel), check out The Recording of Evergreen video. It's a slightly longer (about 17 minutes) BTS film of PTX in the studio recording several of the songs for their Grammy nominated Evergreen album, and they spend a fair amount of time on this song - you'll hear just how much effort and detail they put into making a song as perfect as they can get it. As far as Pentatonix turning simple songs into masterpieces - check out Pentatonix Counts to 5 from Sesame Street, which is exactly what it sounds like - the video only has 210 Million views! PTX made a couple of appearances on Sesame Street early in their careers. And the outros have a small "discussion" over which is the better song, C Is For Cookie or Rubber Ducky.
This shows one again how they just take inspiration from a song and make it epic! I love that they did another collaboration with Lindsey Sterling. I think you should check out their original Be my Eyes. Also try My Favorite things and Havana.
I agree with all three recommendations especially Havana. I personally wasn’t a fan of the original, but like you have mentioned before they somehow make you love a song that you didn’t really enjoy before 😅
PTX are in elements of Earth: Fire, Water, Air, and Earth. Very cool!!! Great song by them! Btw...their Christmas concert was UNBELIEVABLE!!! Absolutely stunning! We had so much fun. My Brother and Sis in Law were not even fans.....YET! Now they are!
Congrats on 400k! I’m as amazed as you with this one. The costuming makes the video! I love how the each chose to represent elements of nature…& Lindsey adds the magic. The closest thing of theirs I can compare it to is My Favorite Things, which is also freaking amazing! Great reaction. 😊
Great reaction. Thank you. Pentatonix and Lindsey added their special magic to this children's song and made it epic. I love how creative they all are.
I was going to say the same thing. Luke, I think you'd find their Making of Evergreen documentary fascinating. It follows them for two weeks getting their album ready for release in 2021. It's longer than usual, but we'll worth the time and the Pentaholics love to see their favorite reactors learn more about their creative process as they perfect their craft and give us incredible music to listen to. I think you'll love seeing this one.
Love your Pentatonix reactions, you always show great emotion to each one whether it is joyful, excitement or tearful your appreciation of their talent is addictive and I always look forward to the next. Would love to see your reaction and hear your thoughts on 'MAD WORLD' and your man Mitch's version of 'YOUR POWER' both of which are stunning. Happy New Year 🎉
Absolutely love this one and how they built all the background vocals!! There is also a behind the scenes for this video talking about how each of them represents a different element and Lindsay is magic! Also, in the recording of Evergreen video they show a lot of the vocal building and arrangement. There is so much to this one!!!
Lindsey just defies the laws of nature with her playing and dancing!! And I don't think I need to reiterate my love and admiration for PTX for the 100000th time! (Ok, sure I do!) Love Pentatonix, and love your reactions to Pentatonix!! ❤️
I got the pleasure of meeting Lindsey Stirling in person just before Christmas she was absolutely lovely such a nice personality and very beautiful too I also saw pentatonix live and they were very good too great voices and Lindsey and her dancers and band were fantastic aswell. Great review by the way.
It’s really good live too. There is a video out there with Matt playing the drum, Kevin on cello and Lindsay on the screens behind them. It’s excellent.
It was beautiful! Each of them looked like characters in a fairy tale. Mitch’s top looked like wolf fur, Kirstin looked like an enchantress, and so forth. I wanted to be a musical story!!!! I wanted more!
I came apon your reaction video's on Pentatonix about 5months ago. Yes as you know we Pentaholics love reactions. I listened to every one of you reactions and love it. Seriously, EVERY SINGLE TIME I watch you react to PTX, I twitch toward the subscribe button as a reflex because I’m so thoroughly enjoying your reaction. I don’t hit the button because I’ve been subscribed since you dropped your Hallelujah reaction! Things I absolutely love about this and every video of yours that I’ve watched: 1. It makes it so much easier for those with autism to interpret your opinion of the song even beyond what you say. 3. I appreciate so much that you go beyond just reacting emotionally and actually describe what you are thinking and why you are feeling the way you are. I’m looking forward to your next PTX reaction!
I think this might be the best example of visuals in PTX videos. ALL aspects are great, of course, but they always are. The visuals in this blew me away. Kirstin's look reminds me of their Favorite Things video. Scot (as usual) just OWNS this performance!
I went on this journey with you. Over a time I've listened to all your pentatonix reactions. Thoroughly enjoyed it. PENTAHOLICS GET BACK TO THIS MAN'S CHANNEL. Long-time Pentaholic. Greetings from South Africa
I also think you would find their Making of Evergreen video fascinating- it’s long, but worth every minute. I’m not surprised- your reactions are top tier. 😊
I definitely getting Sondheim's "Into the Woods" vibes with this one - and yeah, it's amazing. They've done it again; and Lindsey Stirling is the perfect touch. Thanks for this one!
We used to sing this song on the way to my grandma's house or my Aunt Janet's house on Thanksgiving & Christmas. I'm pretty sure having a cello & a violin in the car wouldn't have made us sound anything like this. 😂❤
Love your PTX reactions. Hope to see more of them. I believe Ive seen them all more than once. My favorite is the first one when you discovered they were a capella.
If you haven't watched their "Making of Evergreen", a 20 minute video of their recording of their 2021 album, they show clips of them recording this with the three part background and it's fabulous.
They once sang a tongue twister and it was incredible. They could make anything sound amazing. Could can see the making of Evergreen (the album this song is from) and the making of the video. Both are awesome to watch.
It’s been a while since you reacted to Over the River but you really need to check out the BTS recording of the album Evergreen. That’s where OTR was recorded. They feature this song in the video about how they came up with the background vocals for it. They spent a lot of time coming up with background vocals that you maybe hear 10 -20 seconds on in the recording. This will give you so much insight into how they make all these songs so epic. They also have a lot of BTS videos about how they make their videos. Bohemian Rhapsody is still my favorite. They are outside in the cold all night trying to climb on that moving couch. Thanks for all the wonder reactions. Here’s hoping you reach 500K soon.
I just found your channel here a couple of days ago and I absolutely love your reactions. Well, maybe just a little less shouting, but I love the genuineness of what you're doing. I saw that you were collecting videos of beatboxers and I wanted to point someone out to you. Years before Pentatonix brought vocal perfection into the mainstream there was a highly regarded a Capela group out of San Francisco called The House Jacks. They did a mixture of old school, pop and funk and they were enormously talented guys with great voices. (A dear friend of mine sang tenor with them for a couple of years - more on that some other time.) Anyway, they were formed by a guy named Deke Sharon who was so well known in the a Capela community that he helped train and coach the performers in the Pitch Perfect movies. Well the House Jacks had a legendary beatboxer named Jake Moulton. There are a few videos out there of him and of The House Jacks, but I'll point you to one in particular, where as an encore at a concert he came out solo and improvised an incredible performance. You can find it here: ua-cam.com/video/YCXRHtbNFQw/v-deo.html He first does an amazing drum solo, then he does an impression of a scratch DJ performance. If you're into beatboxers, you need to take a look at the guy who set the gold standard more than 20 years ago. I may have some other suggestions for you along the way. Thanks for being so entertaining.
PTX's own Matt Sallee sang with House Jacks on at least a couple videos here on UA-cam. I'm not sure if he was a member or a guest. I do know he had acapella experience, so it wouldn't surprise me if he was a member.
@@loris1620 Yes, that's correct. Matt was with the band for a couple of years from 2015 to 2017. He actually joined right after Deke Sharon left the group. My friend Garth Kravits was with them from 1998 to 2006 when they had Wes Carroll, another legendary beatbox. Garth left the band when he and his brother Jason, (look up Jason Kravits and you'll probably instantly recognize him from TV and movies,) became original cast members of The Drowsy Chaperone before and on Broadway. Apparently some of the members weren't too thrilled that Garth left the band, but that's yet another story. The Kravits brothers are from Rockville, MD, and the whole family is enormously talented. I worked with their father, Stu, on and backstage in local community theatre. I was producing a local production of A Midsummer Night's Dream in 1991, and the director asked Stu if Jason was available for a major role, but by then Jason was becoming a professional and couldn't take the role, so Stu suggested his other son, Garth, for the part. It was a rather magical production in a number of ways with several actors who went on to professional careers. Garth met his (now) ex-wife, Sarah, (who did a few commercials and soap opera appearances herself.) For their wedding invitations they used a logo that my wife designed for the stage floor. I could go on forever about all this, but yes, The House Jacks were real innovators in a Capella music around the world. Matt is part of a long line of great singers and beatboxers who got their start working with the best in the business.
I'm glad you got round to this one - the video is beautiful and epic isn't it? I so agree with you, who would have thought that this little kids' Christmas rhyme could be made into this epic song that sounds like a movie sound track! Please go back to some of the evolution videos - Beyonce, Ariana Grande or Rihanna or I'd love you to do their version of Ariane Grande's 'Problem' - as Mitch's rapping on this will blow your mind!
So the song predates South Park by a long way. I learned it some 65 years ago in grade school music. Per Wikipedia, the words were first published in 1844, but it doesn’t seem to mention when the music was composed, although it might have been included in the same publication. Check out the wiki if you’re interested. Great reaction. I like how you get so wrapped up in the music. Lindsey is one of my favorite musicians, also, and Pentatonix always seems to nail it.
Speaking of Lindsey Stirling, have you seen her perform Crystalize hanging by her hair? If not, search it out with “Lindsey Stirling - Crystallize (from Home For The Holidays)”. It should be one of the first videos featured. Your head just might explode. And right below it is her vlog related to that. Check that out, too. I’d include links, but they seem to kill comments.
Hello Luke. As I’m watching this you are at 400K CONGRATULATIONS! I can’t remember if you’ve watched it yet or not. If you haven’t you really must check out THE RECORDING OF EVERGREEN. It’s incredibly interesting, watching how they work together. It’s 18 mins but well worth the watch. They show some of the recording of this song along with The Prayer. How much attention to detail that they put into their songs is amazing. 🤗💋🥰
You should really watch the BTS video of the recording of the album Evergreen that contains this song. They do a 3 minute segment about them doing a 5 second (if that) piece over and over for this song. That’s how they refine their music. Attention to detail. There is also a BTS for this video. Very interesting.
Sorry I see you did that reactions on that. There is a older one Silent night, still with Avi. Seems they are standing in a church, AND I REQUEST the one of Mitch singing Your Power ( Billie Eilish song). Standing on the roof of his building as I understand during the Covid times, filmed by a friend. Me again. Greetings from South Africa
Nobody thinks it's going to be this song because nobody can imagine wanting to record this song. Btw they sang about the #5 on Sesame Street and the theme to Mutant teenaged ninja turtles.
lol How, you ask?? Simple... They are Pentatonix So please watch The Recording of Evergreen, BTS when they were recording that album, ALL TOGETHER- not their usual modus operandi but you WILL be gobsmacked
FYI... this is an old American Thanksgiving song... I have known it all my long 57 years. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Over_the_River_and_Through_the_Wood South Park🤣🤣🤣🤣
You should react to "Where were you when the world stopped turning" by Alan Jackson, he wrote it a little after the 9/11 attack, it is country and I think you'll enjoy it

it's perfect for Disney, too!
I'm 75 years old and we used to sing this in elementary school in music class during the holiday season.

By the way, have you done their cover of Mad World yet? Spectacular. ua-cam.com/video/Md8kADJwMQ0/v-deo.html
Gotta react to PTX’s “Dreams” and “I just called to say I love you”…….
Every time that I search for "Pentatonix reaction" your videos end up in my results... even when they are not PTX videos. 🤔
Lindsey is one of my favorite musicians, also, and Pentatonix always seems to nail it.
you have to see what they did on Seasme Street.
This is an old nursery rhyme which has been around way longer then south park.
PTX!!
Love love love this cover. Can you react to some more VoicePlay and Geoff Castellucci please. Hellfire and Jacks Lament please.
Have you checked out Scott’s kids accapella group called Akapop? They are sooo good.
Nobody thinks it's going to be this song because nobody can imagine wanting to record this song. Btw they sang about the #5 on Sesame Street and the theme to Mutant teenaged ninja turtles.
lol How, you ask?? Simple...
They are Pentatonix
So please watch The Recording of Evergreen, BTS when they were recording that album, ALL TOGETHER- not their usual modus operandi but you WILL be gobsmacked
Please please please matey reaxt to david correy's cover of easy on me! Blew me away, keep up the good work!
If you react to the COTE S3 op and ed, you must find the creditless one of OP and react to it.
Arijit Singh -O Bedardeya,O Mahi are new songs.
FYI... this is an old American Thanksgiving song... I have known it all my long 57 years.

South Park🤣🤣🤣🤣
Actually this is quite a bit older carol than South Park. PTX take on it is yes, quite innovative.
You need to watch the making of evergreen!
You should react to "Where were you when the world stopped turning" by Alan Jackson, he wrote it a little after the 9/11 attack, it is country and I think you'll enjoy it
Hiiii, I’d recommend listening to the indie rock band “panchiko” they have an extremely interesting backstory if you’re interested aswell!
Well that was different
Day 136 of requesting the Quintessential Quintuplets Op 1-3 and EDs until the video eventually (hopefully) comes out :)

I don't think you've reacted to their 'Recording Evergreen' video. It's how they recorded that album...behind the scenes.
