@@N3RFTHIS That’s exactly what I do now. I stopped trying to catch up with all the releases a long time ago. I only play games that I know I’ll absolutely like and rarely try to experiment. There is already plenty of the kind of games that I like that are coming out. Beat them ups, shoot them ups, fighting games, and some good indie and also retro compilations. So I don’t really need to experiment with anything new. Definitely in this day and age we have to be really picky and choosy about what we want to play because there’s just too many games coming out.
I recently beat FF16, Street Fighter 6, and Tears of the Kingdom...and now I can finally go back and play Metroid Prime! I'm over half way in and I'm loving it!
It's so easy to miss a game these days. I'm gonna be starting the Ace Attorney games sometime this week. I don't know how I never got round to them in the last 20 years.
Believe it or not....I am just now playing GTA 5 for the first time on PS5 after finishing Cyberpunk 2077. I mix it up, present and past. My backlog is huge and goes back to the NES days.
My backlog also reaches back to the beginning of the medium. Also, really savor GTA 5. It's not only the greatest open-world game I've ever played, it's possibly the best video game I've ever played, period. An absolute masterpiece from top to bottom. I'm starting Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2010 on PS3 today, just had an itch for arcade racing for some reason.
This game will always be on my top 4 favs. If you haven't tried Xenogears, Chrono Trigger or FF Tactics, you should as well. However, FF Tactics might be getting a remaster soon.

Can recommend the game 999 Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors. The original DS version is good, but it seems newer version have some quality of life features.
All the zero escape games are good though the plot for 2 & 3 are somewhat over the top which understandably is a turn off for some people. All the escape rooms are fun though.
I picked up Drainus with after your interview with Reggie, and I 100% completed it over the course of a few days. It was SO GOOD. I want a lot more Drainus!
Game i missed out on and got recently was A Hat in Time. I started playing it and it is so darn fun!!! I love Platformers and the game had been on my radar long ago but it kept on getting lost in the shuffle of games. So happy i got around to finally playing this gem of a game!
Johnny i really really recommend a game called crosscode. Super underrated. Not sure if youve played it but it took me by suprise and seems like something you would really enjoy!
I tried a couple of times to get into this game but I just got bored. It's strange cos I know everyone loves it and on paper I should like it too but it's just meh to me...... maybe I'll try it one more time.
It does have to be stressed though that CrossCode is a puzzle game first and foremost, despite looking similar to some of the classic Super Nintendo RPGs. Personally I got really tired of the puzzles and their density , but I also went into the game expecting it to mostly be an Action RPG, based on the way a lot of people talked about it online. I imagine it's gonna be real good though if you enjoy or don't mind the puzzles. ^^
@tical2399 What you're describing is literally a 5. Perfectly serviceable means it's bang average which means it deserves a middle of the road rating like 5/10.
@@Froge0 nowhere in reviews is a 5/10 considered an average game. 7 is considered a middle of the road game. Go look at any site and see a game scored a 6 or 7 seven the review will pretty much reflect an average game. Not great but not the worst thing you'll ever play.
Never heard you talk about the atelier series. Currently playing the ryza trilogy. The turn based combat is very fun and the graphics are nice. Definitely have to recommend to you all if you haven’t tried it

One game you should check out Johnny, is the recently released Metroidvania game by Konami called GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon. I bought the physical edition on Switch, it's fast Samurai wielding combat with huge bosses to fight. This is actually a sequel to the old Famicom game that never saw a release outside Japan.
Impressed by how many people in comments still enjoying good old games. I sometimes feel like I'm the only weirdo still interested in ps1/ps2 games or playing some very popular games ~5 years after they release
Not weird at all lol. I still use my ps2 on a regular basis. So many great games for nearly every genre. I played so many jrpgs and survival horror games. Its one of my favorite consoles of all time.
I very rarely play Games when they release, Botw and FF XIV are the exceptions. I play the games when I feel its the right time to play them. Also, if you dont play on release you usially get a patched version with all dlcs.

Drainus is awesome, been enjoying that one a lot. Also, Never Awake, very unusual but fun shooter, I can recommend that one. Also, finally got the remake of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 and 2, lots of fun with that one.
Pikmin was a game I missed cause it came out two years before I was born. I didn’t even know about pikmin until the Wii U. I was finally able to experience the original pikmin and had a blast. I am now playing pikmin 4 and I’m loving it.
I finally went through Zelda The Minish Cap and Earthbound for the first time this year and was excited to finally have gone through them! Both legendary games, hope you have a great week ahead of you!
So glad that you finally checked out Drainus. It's one of my favorite games of the last several years. The perfect introductory shmup for newcomers imo, thanks to the lower difficulty, mild progression system, and hype as hell music and visuals. Team Ladybug does not miss!
Finished ffxvi earlier this week. Currently playing legend of the hero: trails from azure. It’s a great series. Would love a rerelease of trails in the sky. Also gonna work my way through ffiii.
I'm finally playing Xenogears. It's been sitting on my shelf for decades, and I finally decided to give it a run. I love the story, but the game play has made me feel frustrated, but I'm 48 hours in so I'm pretty committed to finishing it. I'd started it a couple times when I was much younger, but I'd never made it more than a couple hours in before abandoning it.
If you're emulating, I would recommend the hack to speed up the text in the game. You can literally save half of your playing time by not waiting for the slow as fuck text to scroll through.
@@nizzinja I played it for the first time maybe two years ago and was surprised at how well I liked it. Very fun battle system, great music and locations. The mech battles were a bit boring, but they don't take up much time. I never got to the infamous second disc though. Some day.
I think I'm one major battle away from the second disc, so I'll see what happens when I get there. I've heard plenty of negative things about it, but I intend to see it through to the end.
We've missed so many games, currently aiming for the Midnight Suns platinum trophy. We also picked up Trinity Trigger and it's a beautiful game. It's odd that Marvelous is soon releasing a similar game to Trinity Trigger named Silent Hope which seems to be a Nintendo exclusive at the moment. Videogame on everybody!
My backlog is out of control but I do hope to add a number of these titles to my collection this year. I'm trying to complete a number of YS titles at the back end of this year.
Psychonauts is the game I missed years ago on the PS2 that I just beat on PS4. Actually couldn’t believe the game was released that long ago, really groundbreaking story telling for a platformer.

I missed a lot of games due to being so busy until somewhat recently. Now I've been able to pick up and play some games that I haven't gotten to that I would have liked to, but now I've gotten busy again and don't have a ton of time to play right now.
What I'm discovering at the moment isn't just a game i missed, but a console. I recently repaired a Sega CD unit and started trying it's library for the first time. Of course the amount of really good titles on it is limited, but I'm really enjoying Working Designs' s Popful Mail at the moment, something I never heard about before. My friends and I also started playing Twinkle Star Sprites on Neo Geo recently in our gamenights and it's becoming an instant classic!
Regarding Forspoken the reason the main character swears a lot is because she’s a young adult from New York City; that’s literally how people talk here.
Johnny! I have a game recommendation for you. I highly recommend “Crosscode.” It’s a dot style action RPG available on multiple platforms, but it’s perfect for switch. I’m pretty sure it’s RIGHT up your alley. Intriguing story and character development, skill trees, loot drops, metroidvania aspects, platforming, bullet hell (at times), and it’s world kind of reminds me of Phantasy Star Online. I don’t know if physical copies are available, but I just really really think this is a game FOR YOU, man.
I think it's great with the volume. I love talking with other friends about what jrpg's they played that they'd recommend. Kind of reminds me of back in the day when you really didn't know what was coming out. Huge JRPG fan. Never played a single Trails of game. Something i want to fix, but the backlog is huuuge, not to mention priority games that are coming out now. It's great!
I plan on playing through the Ys and Legend of Heroes series, both of which I’ve missed. So far, I’ve only played the first two Ys games and the first Legend of Heroes game. Lord help me.
The story that stuck out the most to me over the past years has been 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, really great VN/Tower Defense game made by Vanillaware, highly recommend.

I passed on octopath 2 when it first released because I had a bad taste in my mouth from the first one. I’ve been looking for an rpg to play and none have scratched the itch for me in the same way that octopath traveler did. So I’m playing the new one and enjoying it so far.
Interesting, I'm holding back on the second one bevause I didnt like the first one, after a couple of characters I stopped playing. If you finished the second one, let me know if its worth it.
I've been binding on Sonic the Hedgehog games. I thought the series was over at Sonic 3, but it turns out there are tons of awesome Sonic games worth playing.
I played through Tears of the kingdom and loved it but I was exhausted by it. So much to do and so many ways to waste time. I finished it and now I have started Twilight Princess HD on my Wii U. I wanted more Zelda but was craving the more simple times with the games. So that is what I am playing right now.
I've been on a borderlands trip for like a month now after owning all of them and never putting more than a few hours into 1 and 2 I'm like 100+ hours deep into the series.
I just finished ff16, jedi survivor, forspoken and now im playing marvel midnight suns, dead island 2, one piece odyssey and assassin's creed Valhalla at the same time
I jumped on Trinity Trigger as soon as I found out it was from the same developer as Legend of Legacy and Alliance Alive. There games do tend to be on the simple side, but they are charming.
Currently playing New Super Mario Bros 2 on the 3DS , 2 player linked with my son. I have never linked the 3DS before. I also forgot how hard the game is. Its great to have a game collection that I am now enjoying with my son. Solo I'm still working away at Tears of the Kingdom
I don’t usually plays games that come out in the current year. In 2023, I’ve been playing a bunch of games in the Ys, Farcry, and Castlevania series. I’m about to hop into the first Dying Light as well as the Tales of series.
I'm all Final Fantasy this month. XVI for 70 hours at this point and V in small doses in-between work, sleep and that newer game I mentioned. I had no idea I'd like XVI this much. Characters actually have increasingly more development throughout the story, which, in many cases, fluently entwines with the gameplay!
I recently beat FFVII for the first time on ps4. I had started playing it way back when, but the memory card got lost. I didn't feel like starting over, so I had never finished it.
Spiderman. Yep. I'm pathetic, I know. Figured I'd better play it with Spiderman 2 right around the corner. Maybe one day I'll eventually get to God of War (2018).
Just went back to Ghost of Tsushima on lethal mode and finally got to Iki island. Damn i forgot how slick the combat is, and how beautiful it is on PS5 ❤
I missed Remnant: From the Ashes and I’ve been playing that with my friends. It’s pretty good but definitely missing something, hopefully the sequel figures that out.

I’ve had Zelda breath of the wild sitting in my closet for about 2 years. Played it once and thought it wasn’t for me so I never touched it since then. Well I thought to give it another try and now I’m itching to play it any second I get
I would highly recommend blowing through the story on that so you can play TotK without burning out. It's a far better game, but would probably feel like a chore coming right off a very long BotW playthrough.
I think I’m the only person alive that enjoyed Loop8. Played it to completion twice back-to-back and I never do that! It’s very much an acquired taste though I recognise that.
Thanks for the great video. Quick question related to the game you didn't like: did you finish it? I'm curious because if I don't like a game after giving it a chance (3-4 hours), I stop playing it and move to something else. With kids and work, my video game time is limited so I move on pretty quickly to try something different if I'm not enjoying a game. There are so many great games out there!
When you got so many amazing titles released in the same month, it is hard to keep up but what I like to do is wait for the prices to drop on newer games like FF16, street fighter and so on. Though there are a lot of older games I would love to play but can't because of resellers buying so many games every week monthly or even daily causes the price of a game to go up. But it is what it is
Another great video! I really can’t say enough about your honesty and heart you put into your content. I have been interested in Trinity Trigger. I think I will have to pick it up now. I’m playing through Metroid Prime Remaster which I am loving. I recently beat Route 96 based on Reggie’s love for it. I am trying to get through The Assent as well. Your impressions of Loop 8 remind me of how hyped I was for Atomic Heart. The disappointment was similar since it gave me Bioshock vibes. It will be my worst game of the year for sure.
Another 2D classic style shoot 'em up right out of the 90's is Andro Dunos 2. Super cool pixel-art graphics and music that's inspired by games like Axelay. It's very hard, of course, but it's a real fix when you crave for a 16-bit era game. I highly recommend it. For those who want a Contra game after playing Blazing Chrome, I've read that Super Cyborg is exactly that and it's at a discount on the Nintendo store right now for a few bucks.

Phenomenal game
That game is awesome. Beating the final boss with the last remaining HP on my MC was so exhilarating and rewarding when I beat that game last year.

I am catching up on the Ys games. I know you love them Johnny lol. I finished Ys Origin on Switch and Ys 1 Chronicles on Vita. Just started number 2!
My backlog is out of control but I do hope to add a number of these titles to my collection this year. I'm trying to complete a number of YS titles at the back end of this year.
Psychonauts is the game I missed years ago on the PS2 that I just beat on PS4. Actually couldn’t believe the game was released that long ago, really groundbreaking story telling for a platformer.
I thought Drainus is pretty fun despite the name. A collector's edition with Draino would be sweet 😊😊😊

I am also about to start elden ring. I just got done playing tears of the kingdom and got worn out of diablo 4. Had an itch for another huge adventure and figured it's time.
I missed a lot of games due to being so busy until somewhat recently. Now I've been able to pick up and play some games that I haven't gotten to that I would have liked to, but now I've gotten busy again and don't have a ton of time to play right now.
Currently playing a game called Tunic which came out last year, love it though I’m rubbish at it.
What I'm discovering at the moment isn't just a game i missed, but a console. I recently repaired a Sega CD unit and started trying it's library for the first time. Of course the amount of really good titles on it is limited, but I'm really enjoying Working Designs' s Popful Mail at the moment, something I never heard about before. My friends and I also started playing Twinkle Star Sprites on Neo Geo recently in our gamenights and it's becoming an instant classic!

Johnny! I have a game recommendation for you. I highly recommend “Crosscode.” It’s a dot style action RPG available on multiple platforms, but it’s perfect for switch. I’m pretty sure it’s RIGHT up your alley. Intriguing story and character development, skill trees, loot drops, metroidvania aspects, platforming, bullet hell (at times), and it’s world kind of reminds me of Phantasy Star Online. I don’t know if physical copies are available, but I just really really think this is a game FOR YOU, man.
I think it's great with the volume. I love talking with other friends about what jrpg's they played that they'd recommend. Kind of reminds me of back in the day when you really didn't know what was coming out. Huge JRPG fan. Never played a single Trails of game. Something i want to fix, but the backlog is huuuge, not to mention priority games that are coming out now. It's great!
I plan on playing through the Ys and Legend of Heroes series, both of which I’ve missed. So far, I’ve only played the first two Ys games and the first Legend of Heroes game. Lord help me.
The story that stuck out the most to me over the past years has been 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, really great VN/Tower Defense game made by Vanillaware, highly recommend.

I felt the exact same way about Loop 8! I was so excited but my god it was so dull. I talked to one character 6 times yesterday in a row and that little spirit animal popped up 6 times and said the same thing! “Oh ho! We meet again” - I could not stand another minute of that and am selling it right away

I passed on octopath 2 when it first released because I had a bad taste in my mouth from the first one. I’ve been looking for an rpg to play and none have scratched the itch for me in the same way that octopath traveler did. So I’m playing the new one and enjoying it so far.
Interesting, I'm holding back on the second one bevause I didnt like the first one, after a couple of characters I stopped playing. If you finished the second one, let me know if its worth it.
I've been binding on Sonic the Hedgehog games. I thought the series was over at Sonic 3, but it turns out there are tons of awesome Sonic games worth playing.
I played through Tears of the kingdom and loved it but I was exhausted by it. So much to do and so many ways to waste time. I finished it and now I have started Twilight Princess HD on my Wii U. I wanted more Zelda but was craving the more simple times with the games. So that is what I am playing right now.
I will never get caught up, there are plenty of games in my backlog that came out 20 years ago or more.
I've been on a borderlands trip for like a month now after owning all of them and never putting more than a few hours into 1 and 2 I'm like 100+ hours deep into the series.
I just finished ff16, jedi survivor, forspoken and now im playing marvel midnight suns, dead island 2, one piece odyssey and assassin's creed Valhalla at the same time

Trinity Trigger is great. Absolutely loved my time with it, but I got distracted by Trails into Reverie so will get back to it when I'm done!
I jumped on Trinity Trigger as soon as I found out it was from the same developer as Legend of Legacy and Alliance Alive. There games do tend to be on the simple side, but they are charming.

Currently playing New Super Mario Bros 2 on the 3DS , 2 player linked with my son. I have never linked the 3DS before. I also forgot how hard the game is. Its great to have a game collection that I am now enjoying with my son. Solo I'm still working away at Tears of the Kingdom

I'm all Final Fantasy this month. XVI for 70 hours at this point and V in small doses in-between work, sleep and that newer game I mentioned. I had no idea I'd like XVI this much. Characters actually have increasingly more development throughout the story, which, in many cases, fluently entwines with the gameplay!
Its a very good game, but not the best FF Game. I would put X and IX over XVI.

I recently beat FFVII for the first time on ps4. I had started playing it way back when, but the memory card got lost. I didn't feel like starting over, so I had never finished it.

I missed Remnant: From the Ashes and I’ve been playing that with my friends. It’s pretty good but definitely missing something, hopefully the sequel figures that out.

I’ve had Zelda breath of the wild sitting in my closet for about 2 years. Played it once and thought it wasn’t for me so I never touched it since then. Well I thought to give it another try and now I’m itching to play it any second I get
I would highly recommend blowing through the story on that so you can play TotK without burning out. It's a far better game, but would probably feel like a chore coming right off a very long BotW playthrough.
Checkout the game "Signalis". It's a dystopian cyberpunk survival horror game in the style of old Resident Evil/Silent hill in Anime artstyle.
I think I’m the only person alive that enjoyed Loop8. Played it to completion twice back-to-back and I never do that! It’s very much an acquired taste though I recognise that.

I'm curious because if I don't like a game after giving it a chance (3-4 hours), I stop playing it and move to something else. With kids and work, my video game time is limited so I move on pretty quickly to try something different if I'm not enjoying a game. There are so many great games out there!

When you got so many amazing titles released in the same month, it is hard to keep up but what I like to do is wait for the prices to drop on newer games like FF16, street fighter and so on. Though there are a lot of older games I would love to play but can't because of resellers buying so many games every week monthly or even daily causes the price of a game to go up. But it is what it is

Another great video! I really can’t say enough about your honesty and heart you put into your content. I have been interested in Trinity Trigger. I think I will have to pick it up now. I’m playing through Metroid Prime Remaster which I am loving. I recently beat Route 96 based on Reggie’s love for it. I am trying to get through The Assent as well. Your impressions of Loop 8 remind me of how hyped I was for Atomic Heart. The disappointment was similar since it gave me Bioshock vibes. It will be my worst game of the year for sure.

Another 2D classic style shoot 'em up right out of the 90's is Andro Dunos 2. Super cool pixel-art graphics and music that's inspired by games like Axelay. It's very hard, of course, but it's a real fix when you crave for a 16-bit era game. I highly recommend it. For those who want a Contra game after playing Blazing Chrome, I've read that Super Cyborg is exactly that and it's at a discount on the Nintendo store right now for a few bucks.
