WOW I hadn’t seen the punk wood or the beach leaf fire roll before. That’s amazing! You never stop teaching us new things!
TY! See my fire roll playlist.
Good demonstration David , thanks for sharing , God bless brother !
Very welcome!
Rust..!! Who would’a thought? ……… one more to the list! Thanks again…
Thanks Old Bones!
Lindo esse ambiente ❤️🤩
Hey brother. I was fascinated when I first saw the fire roll and excited. Being accomplished with the bow drill and constantly practicing my fire building skills I finally stopped procrastinating and gave it a try. Nailed it the first time. Thanks for the direction.
Welcome to the Fire Roll Club!
first :)
Yes you are!
Thanks again David; the whole fire roll thing still amazes me. I've finely achieved success with the ash technique, but have yet to try other active substances.
Fine rust powder is an easy one.
Your videos are always great! Thank you so much. I've been watching you for a while and I'm curious, have you ever started a fire with a pump fire drill? It's seems a lot like a regular bow drill with a machine advantage. I'm sure you've tried most methods, and if you had used it I know you would have some great insights. Thank you again and God bless.
Many people have asked me about Pump Drills over the years. They just have no appeal to me whatsoever. Likewise the Fire Thong, Eskimo Drill, Fire Plow, and Strike-a-light.
Thank you for the answer, now I'll have to look up the others to see what they are! Keep up the good work.
They are fascinating techniques nonetheless.
Ive watched you fire roll over a long period, with different materials, in a survial situation, what would be your go to "cotton wool" material be, and things to use on the "cotton" eg rust... ash punk wood etc
Thanks again David for great videos
Always EDC 4 fire makers.
Basswood bark, Hickory bark, Wisteria bark, Kudzu... Rust, powdered shell, the ash or charcoal left over from an old fire. See my fire roll playlist.
Can you make fire with mortar and pestle?
No.
Great experiments, as usual. Have you ever tried to fire roll dogbane fibers in place of cotton?
Not yet. It works well though.
When I have time Id like to experiment with ways of doing this using 2 round sticks instead of square pieces of lumber. I wonder if you can get enough friction by using a round piece of wood somehow.
See it in my fire roll playlist. Everything logical has already been tried.
Thanks for the video David! I believe I found some punkwood and can't wait to try it. I've gotten smoke with charcoal from my fire as a coal extender in my cottonball.. I got smoke but couldn't get a coal. I'm using small cotton balls. Could it be I'm not using enough cotton or maybe too much pressure when rolling it or not fast enough? Thanks in advance for any insight you can give me on this. I've watched SO many of your videos on friction fires and still have had no luck. Thanks for all your work you go through for these videos! BTW! You have a beautiful area where you live!🙂
Have you mastered the cotton and ashes fire roll first?
@@DavidWestBgood2ppl HI David! I finally got some coal in my fireroll today! Yea!!! I'm learning! I watched another of your fire roll videos and figured out I was putting too much ashes in it and not pressing down hard enough and not going fast enough AND not waiting long enough for the coal to form. I'm almost there!!! Couldn't get my leaves to light but I'll keep trying! Thank you!!!🙂
You'll have to master it before you can try other materials.
cool.,.,.,tkzz
Thanks JM!
Hi David, and thanks once again. I'm wondering about the ashes in a fire roll, and whether they have to be "fresh", so to speak. Ie, if one found an old wood fire with ash that had been outside for some time, maybe even got wet a few times, would it still serve the same purpose in a fire roll as ash straight from the fire?
Damp ashes work, but not ashes leached out by the rain. The small pieces of charcoal crushed up will work. See my fire roll playlist.
can that be done with t-shirt instead of cotton ball?
No. It's too stretchy. See my fire roll playlist for denim and other cotton fabrics that will FR.
