@@sim.frischh9781 lol jeez. I didn't even know there was a before runes lol. Came out with l.o.d? I'm assuming? I guess I didn't start playing til the expansion had already come out.
Good reminders. For anyone who doesn't know; if you go to sell an item in Act I and the sell price is $5000, this means it's actually worth more but the most you can sell the item for is $5000 in Act I. If you hold on to the item until Act II, you can sell it for more. Each of the vendors (Acts 1 - 4) has a max price sell price in Normal difficulty (iirc).
Good advice for new or returning players! You're right about the vendor cap scaling with the act. (Normal) Act 1 5k Act 2 10k Act 3 15k Act 4 20k Act 5 25k Nightmare is 30k Hell is 35k Edit: spacing is hard. Second edit: corrected bad numbers, numbers are hard too.
Nice tips, and if you are new: maybe just enjoy the game first. You can always go for the 'most optimal' build later on, but at first, just have fun discovering things and playing as you like to play to get the hang of everything (there is no wrong, only choices might make things a bit more difficult, but mostly that's at hell level before you really notice it). I've been watching a few guides in the past weeks to get back into it, and a lot of those high end things I didn't really know 20 years ago. (I never really got far into hell, but was mostly socially playing so whenever someone new came in, I also created a new character). But still had great fun going about and trying out some ridiculous builds (like a melee sorc). There is a lot of flexibility in this game, and of course there are some combinations of gear/skills etc that are way better than anything else, and you can go for those, but you could also miss out on a lot of other experiences if you follow a fixed path. I Think having fun is what's most important in a game, however you fill that in :)
Also lot of the 'best' build are specialized for one (few) things only. So it can actually encounter a harder difficulty situation for normal play than some other, more balanced build.
@@brandon2879 I didn't play a lot of solo, but it was sure fun. At some point I liked to make 'impossible' builds, just to have some fun and a challenge yes. In this case you can use spells that affect your weapon, and shield spells, but your main attack is hacking at a monster instead of throwing spells from a safe distance :)
If you get any items worth 5,000g in A1 - SAVE THEM - 5,000g is the max a vendor will buy an item for in a1 normal. The later acts vendors will buy it for more, the absolute max being 35,000g.
While it's not outright bad advice, in practice it's better to just vendor it now so you have money for potions and spend less time picking up crap so you get further into the game faster where the actual good items drop.

Great video for a new to D2(R) player! 👍🏻👍🏻All the saleable stuff is important to know. I tend to keep rubies and topazes for health and MF, but that's just me!
6:57 I was about to reference Duriel doing tons of Cold damage, but then I remembered that his aura is Freeze... so if you find items that reduce Freeze duration, hang onto them and throw them on after you open Tal Rasha's Tomb.
I remember when D2 came out, for a long time I played it much like D1. In D1, especially early, it was not a bad strategy to pickup every blue item for gold and potential usable gear + kill every possible monster on each level before proceeding down further. D2 is different…took me awhile as a kid to break that habit. Great tips! Unfortunately I have to work tomorrow, but got D2R preloaded and ready to play soon as I get home. Haven’t been so excited about a game release in I can’t remember how long..
Great video tip. I played D2 Lod (no mods) singleplayer a few weeks ago before D2R to get myself ready since it has been a long time. So far I really enjoy D2R Online and Offline classes only downside is server down battle net pc app but I know it will get fix. Game is amazing.
Hey Phil! Great video. I noticed when you scrolled over the items in your inventory, the potential recipes for each base where noted. Is this a third party tool? I would appreciate if you could share this info. Keep it up!
With regards to Runewords. I found it helpful to look at the base level of the runeword and try to get a white item as close to that level as possible. If that means you need to go to and from town a few times all the better. This way you get an armour rating or damage as high as possible for that runeword. Stealth for example is like level 17 or something so find a white item that's level 15-17 req and use that for best results. Edit: I forgot about the strength requirement and if you are worried about excess strength needed opt for a lower strength version.
General you want the best base, that's one way to sort out what is better. For some of the earliest rune word though, I say just make them as fast as you can.
@@SweetPhil I don't usually mind spending a few extra minutes getting the right item as I usually play with "players 8" and the extra defense/damage helps more over time than the few minutes I saved just getting any old thing. Btw I love your content as a returning player.
Hey man, you talked about caster belts at the beginning of this. Have you made a basic crafting video with those recipes and what to keep an eye out for? I know you talked a little bit about one in your wealth video but it would be cool to have a beginners guide kind of thing.
A good trick for earning a little bit more gold at the start is to stash an item instead of selling it sometimes (unless of course you need gold right away). What I am referring to are items that have reached the max sale price at the vendor. So for example no item will sell for more than 5k gold in act1. If you have an item selling for 5k you can stash it and sell it once you reach act2 instead and get more for it. The gold cap goes up by 5k per act, starting as I wrote at 5k for act1. edit: saw someone already mentioned it, oh well.
Thank you for the video, it was informative and will definitely be helpful. I almost didn't get far enough to appreciate the content, however... with zero useful information until 2:04. Hope this helps.
