People need to realize that layoffs are necessary and natural thing at this point. The industry had a massive boom over covid and the studios hired lot more people then they'd be able to afford normally, the boom is over, the people need to go. It's so annoying seeing this industry being treated as "you can never fire people, ever!", commentators need to touch base with reality here. Yes, we should be criticizing who is laid off in cases where successful studios are closed etc., but bethesda staff? I'm surprised how many kept their jobs after the complete Starfield fiasco back to back after Fallout 76. On top of the post covid decline, most AAA games have been failing lately, and only small part of that is because of live service or monetization, all the live services that are failing are just shit games first, the live service isn't the worst part about the game, it's only the most talked about part. Good live service games have been thriving, just look at Destiny 2, despite bungie management trying to kill the game with their gross incompetence and doing massive damage to it, the game is still popular because the core gameplay is good. Also, HR being fired is always a good thing. HR are just useless meddlers feeding off of the effort the actual workers do. No company needs HR, HR was invented to offload leadership/legal teams responsibilities. HR is the personification of bloat.
I understand some of your points. I worked at Xbox and was a Covid hire. The issue in my opinion is that leadership isn’t held accountable. I was a business manager and had to plan and predict how a game would do and potential pitfalls. It’s like leadership didn’t think about how the over hiring would impact employees. I don’t fully disagree with you. Great comments
@@Trunrd Yeah I agree that leadership needs to be held accountable, but that's exactly what's starting to happen now, gamers have been vocal about the management for a while now to the point where even some journalists touch on it, it's just that "management bad" has become a strawman, people often say devs shouldn't be laid off, only the management, but it's both, management more tho.
Lay offs are important if a game doesn't do well, but these companies laying off people after the games they made succeeded,or because Sweet baby or Black girl gamers or someone like that said so are messed up!😡
