I haven't seen whether this is a gas seal revolver or not, but it's design could certainly lend itself to being one. While not a feature today, it could actually get a threaded barrel to act as a suppressor host. Silencing a .357 Magnum seems like a pointless effort, but .38 Special is naturally subsonic. Not making this a viable suppressor host would be a missed opportunity and remove one of the only obvious use cases for it

I might be reading into this too much but even with Bruen, we're seeing more looming assault weapon bans in states. With those in place, new semi auto pistols won't be able to be suppressed, but a revolver could be exempt *depending on the specific area's legislation.* I don't believe this is Zenk's intention, but more and more manufacturers and even new brands could benefit from making "next best option" type firearms for states with more strict gun control. Not just pistol grip fins, but new and innovative designs like that lever action that takes AR uppers.

The question is not “can we do it” the question is “should we do it”? I think this will quickly become an obscure footnote in firearms history, just like the older examples that you showed in the video.

Fun sci-fi looking range gun/conversation piece. It's a toy. I'm sure it can be used for defense just fine for the first 6 rounds, but it's a weird niche gun at best.

One thing I would REALLY like a competent gun maker do, is bring back a very durable and reliable TOP-BREAK revolver, one with a good ejector action that pops the shells and makes it easy to reload and get back into action. One with simple, durable, and no-brainer take on a latch system to hold the cylinder in place while operating.
The traditional DA/SA revolver designs are good ones. I think Chiappa has a pretty solid design with the bottom-fired cylinder and it makes a very noticeable difference in how a revolver operates. I do think there are other revolver-like innovations that could come out but for whatever reason (usually financial and the standard no-risk conventional thinking of mankind in general) it seems like revolver development has been stale for a long time and bottom-feeding plastic 9's is all anyone wants to put out. Just like the music industry, everything is a very predictable safe version of hip-hop electronic dub step junk that can be whipped up on a computer synthesizer and distributed to 9 million radio stations in half a week. Boring. When a few corporations own everything, also boring. It's the opposite of American essence, a pile of small businesses in competition instead of a half dozen giant corporations dominating everything.
These things are what happens when economic risk is off the charts, the value of currency is tanking, and traditional manufacturing is trying to survive. Lack of invention, lack of innovation, lack of risk taking.

    • @grahamohea2424
      @grahamohea2424 Рік тому

I agree. A top break design has a lot to lend itself, in particular, automatic rejection and the ability to open it up one handed. The main disadvantage of the top-break design is that it is nowhere near as strong as a solid frame, as most of the stresses put on a revolver during firing is on the top strap. This does sound like a solvable problem to me, and it looks like this revolver has solved it given it is a top break .357 (that, or it hasn't been stress tested enough to expose any problems with it's design)

@@grahamohea2424 Per the pictures online, and drawing from my mechanical engineering experience, I don't yet see how this Zenk will function in loading, ejecting, firing mechanism, and dealing with all the dirty gasses from the cylinder gap.
The top break designs I can recall have been either low pressure .45 Colt (current reproductions by Uberti) and .22LR (discontinued designs by H&R). To find something in .357mag or .44mag is yet to be seen.
If manufacturing companies can design folding knives locking mechanism to withstand many hundreds of pounds hanging on a small pin and function just fine, I think a revolver manufacturer can design a top-break latch that will withstand the pressures of a .357magnum.

What do I like about the zenk? It's small yet has a longer barrel!
    Would hopefully stay clean because I usually pocket carry. I carry a s&w 60 with a 1 & 7/8 barrel & It's accurate enough for defense.
But a 4" + barrel would be better on the farm.
I need "snake shot" for copperhead. Thus "revolver".
Bear are suddenly appearing too close.
    Usually, not a problem.
I won't hunt them anymore, but they are "unpredictable".

I'm not really sure how I feel about this gun. It may be awesome, but for the life of me I can't figure out how it works. It's kinda similar to a Schofield in the way it has a break open design, but how does the trigger connect to the firing pin? That's what I've not figured out yet. After SHOT show, maybe you can make a video explaining how the thing works, because I'm stumped.

I see this as something probably good for a person with zero experience, which there are people like this in need of a firearm. Elderly people are starting to see how maybe they might need something now days with all of the home break ins due to the economy. There's little to go wrong with it being revolver reliable but no burns or prevention of rotation of cylinder. Six for sure but no reload for the person who wants something but has no experience or desire to learn any skills. Like here mom or dad, it has .38 Special in it, pull trigger if you need to.

    • @theturkeysopinion

I see a use for this style of pistol. But it would have to be extended to six inches.
I think it would make an excellent hunting pistol because of the compact design.
It wouldn't be getting in the way when you're trudging thru the swamp and dense growth.
Soon as I saw that, that's what immediately came to mind otherwise. Meh.

These companies that create new guns just price them high against proven markets. Sure they have to make their R&D back but selling a couple guns at premium prices is not working either. Maybe the high volume low profit concept may work. Get it out there to be proven. They could always make premium models later.

  • @WarbirdFan66

hmm....we will see how it works in the real world, i mean in theory they seem to be right, bore axis is lower so lower or straight back recoil impulse, so there should be less nozzle flip, a slightly longer barrel due to the different design compared to other guns, so a bit more energy maybe...who knows, maybe its a good gun, even it looks a bit odd to us right now, i like that they try new things, trying to reinvent the wheel so to speak.

@@theturkeysopinion Ouch, thats a bit of a dissapointment, i mean if i show something like that, i should at least have a working prototype - maybe they were just looking for investors, or public reactions to a gun like that....as you said before, the odd gun lovers alone are usually not enough to make something like that work financially, if you wanna make some coin in the prozess aswell i mean and not just build it.
