    The 4HWW is probably still my most go-to little number when I need to return to first principles, both in life and work. Cheers, Tim.

    8:30 Why has the book had such longevity? (It’s very personally written, he wrote the book very personally to two of his friends)
    9:35 The writing process / prose dev. 1st draft tried really hard to sound smart and academic at first (habit he developed writing papers at Princeton). 2nd attempt he tried to make slapstick funny, equally bad because he was trying to write for a BROAD audience and as many people as possible. 3rd and final attempt, He wrote specifically to two of his 29-30 y/o tech savvy male friends, his first chapter started as an email. Prose was written in the style of a very personal book, with two friends in mind. Feedback he often gets from readers is “I felt like you were writing it just to me.” THE TARGET ISN’T THE MARKET. The original market was _very_ _very_ narrow, doesn’t mean it can’t expand later. (goes against MBA strategy of targeting extremely large markets) (job descriptions and dating profiles should be written the same way)
    13:40 Thoughts on making manuscript changes / updates
    16:10 An entrepreneur is someone who makes something from nothing. You must be very good at improvising and problem solving.
    17:40 Tim was 29 at the time of writing 4-HRWW
    21:00 4-HRWW = definition, elimination, automation, liberation
    22:00 Given my audience right now, If I recommend a given pen, it is almost immediately guaranteed to be sold out (Art Center student store). Problem nicknamed “the hug of death” by his fans. Applied to services as well (especially non-automated, manual components)
    35:30 Tim spent 17 years living in Silicon Valley. People have entire identities wrapped up in their startup. If has a good day, or bad day, then they will reflect.
    36:00 Diversify your identity. *Have a consistent, physical practice that is goal based.* Authors go into a cave that is book deadline, can throw them existentially into a really dark place. He had deadlift practice during 4 HR Body, so if bad day on book writing, then good day if added 10 lbs to deadlift.
    44:23 4-HR Chef was the most difficult book for Tim to write. Boycotted by B&N and big box book retailers because it was published by Amazon publishers. He was depressed and demoralized for a few years after that experience. It was the spark of his podcast show, after being interviewed on The Nerdist and Joe Rogan. Became much bigger than all of his books combined, according to his fans.
    47:00 Stoicism
    49:05 Tim is a big fan of Tony Robbins

    19:28 "There is a certain magic or alchemy in that book that made it click that I do not want to fuck with. I am really afraid if I go in there and start tinkering that I am going to step on the butterfly that causes a hurricane on the other side of the book that somehow effects what that book has done. And if it's not broken I try not to fix it."
    Kind of like how Jerry Seinfeld felt that the 9th season would be the last. He felt like going on to the 10th season will undermine all the other season's greatness if it had continued on.
    Although Khabib Nurmagomedov (undefeated 155lbs UFC champion) never said it, I speculate he retired as the best 155lbs ever because he knew that if one day if he were to ever lose in the future, it would undermine his legacy as the best 155lbs ever in world. My 2 cents.

    This is top-notch in every aspect. I read a book with similar content, and it was top-notch. "Mastering Money Mindfulness" by Benjamin Hawk

    50:00 I hate managers who are abbrassive in their command style. But I just started rewatching star trek the next generation, and I used to think Picard and Riker were awesome. Upon re-evaluation, I discovered they are just as abbrassive as the asses I've hated working for. Long story short - I'm going to start changing my views about ass managers. They're only as bad as you think they are.

      Oh, that’s how it works. Alphas and betas. Ok cool. All of the complexities between personalities explained perfectly. And in full caps too for extra credit.
      Thanks champ.

      The Alpha concept was derived from that study on wolves that has been debunked. IOW, your whole philosophy of life is based on a lie.

    • @sourcedrop7624
      @sourcedrop7624 3 роки тому

      And I am an alpha, just not the jack ass type. Thats why ass managers don't like me because they try to push my buttons but I'm totally in control stoic.

    • @paradigmwolf4694

      Alpha and beta is based on the discovery channel. It’s a way for losers with a handful of positive qualities to create a whole superiority complex around them and justify being pompous dbags. I’ve never met a guy who’s openly bragged about being “alpha” who wasn’t a one dimensional tool

    • @sourcedrop7624
      @sourcedrop7624 3 роки тому

      @@paradigmwolf4694 the more common terms used now are omega or sigma. They all mean the same at the core, which is being confident and self sufficient. Opposed to dependent on others. You look to yourself for whether you are good enough, not others. The debunked "alpha" term is about that plus domineering over others. That's not a superior way, it's a way that betrays lack of inner strength. A true "alpha" (sigma, omega) is a leader who inspires others to be great.
