You guys want a real solution. Okay. Sitting for extended periods tends to leave your muscles hypertonic and hence the pulling of the spine misaligning things and the pain with bending over for starters. Two things: stretch your hamstrings, but do so without flexing at the spine. You should use your hips as a hinge to do the stretch. You'll find when your back is straight, the hamstring stretch doesn't require you move forward all that much. The second muscle is called the psoas. It flexes the hips and assists with leg crunches. It also attaches to almost all of the lumbar vertebrae pulling them forward if they are hypertonic. The stretch will have you with one knee bent, foot on the ground, the other leg pushed behind you with the attempt to make your gluten reach the floor. As you lower in the squat with the front leg, let the rear leg continue to drift backwards. Additionally the hand on the side of the rear leg will reach upwards and backwards to further promote the stretch. You'll know this is being done correctly if you get a hamstring stretch in the front leg and the psoas in the rear.

Engaging the muscles (glutes, abs, etc) as you recommend, for more posterior tilt, has taken some practice, coordination, and is like a mini work out while driving, but this has really helped alleviate my back pain. Thank you for this great advise and video.

Great explanation, shall try your suggestions.
Started to get severe left hip pain when driving for more than 20 minutes occasionally, 🚗 I wonder if it could be related to right knee pain ?
Also get the same pain when lying on the sofa 🛋 in the evening.

I had been a cyclist for 6 years. I rode 20,000 miles on a bicycle. Not riding in a car or sitting down except for meals in all of that time. Then 3 years ago I got a Prius and I drove a 14,000 mile road trip in my Prius. I have had debilitating lower back pain/tightness since that trip. I do stretches all the time but nothing quells this spasm feeling. Will ab strengthening make this stop. If driving forced my body into an unnatural position then what stretches or excersises will pull everything back to normal??

I'm in so much pain I'll jump into a frozen lake Michigan if it will help!
This video is great with good tips on this painful condition and he gets right to it which I appreciate. I should watch it once in a awhile BEFORE I hurt.
Also for over a year we've had to deal with covid 19 which means even more sitting.

interestingly enough, on long drives I'll slouch and go into posterior tilt with a rounded back. I can't actually figure out how to sit in an anterior tilt with a rounded back like mentioned as the problem at the beginning of the video. To fix it, I have to sit up with a neutral spine and neutral pelvis. It's hard to do that though the way car seats are designed these days, which sucks.

I put a flat board over my seat. It helped a bit but not totally

There are a few tips for ways to exercise back muscles
Slowly build up to walking 3 miles per day
    Try an anti-inflammatory diet
    Consider trying yoga lessons
    Checkout some online courses
(I learned these and why they work on Fergs Pain Ease site )

thank you...I am a commuter (about 6 years now). Currently in PT for groin pulls associated with nerve problems keeping me up at night. I also have a bulging L3 L4 and L4 L5---coupled with bilateral Bartolotti's syndrome. I'm a mess! I can relate to your video well and do relax my thighs outward while on cruise control. Would strapping my thighs together be recommended? I do use a special prescribed back support from my Chiropractor which is much better than no back support pillow.

Lot of really helpful points, any thoughts on my TFL pain? It feels like the pressure or the seat belt is really irritating my TFL and hip flexors. Please share if you don’t mind.

What is crazy is my most comfortable vehicle is my oldest. It's a '78 Chevy truck. There is nothing fancy about it. The seats make you sit up straight at 90° as if in a chair.

What a lame explanation. No real showing of how to do it. Could’ve watched this with my eyes closed and learnt just as much. Dislike.
