The entire point of confiscating food items is to prevent the spread of plant diseases across international borders and if she has juice on her at the end of the day when she goes home this kind of defeats the purpose because that juice could have some harmful disease that will get loose into the environment.

if there is any insect in the food coming from outside that the american agricultural plants are not immune to or used to ,then sometimes it can cause famines and crop failure.

Sometime the fruits, veggies, or meat have a little stowaway (such as a bug) that could really mess with our agriculture. It's not just the US. I've seen it on an Australian and a NZ show about customs and border protection where this is a common occurrence.
But we're not like eat it right in a farm field, so why does it matter?
Once I had to chug a bottle of luxury *_'Moët & Chandon'_* to stop it from being confiscated. I simply couldn't stand to see such a masterpiece of a champagne being wasted.

How sad that so much food is wasted... The only way to really prevent this is just to not bring food when travelling.We cannot change the fact that it will be confiscated and thrown out, but we can prevent the waste from happening by not bringing contraband foods across borders in the first place.

well no it's not, most first world countries such as america have tests which produce has to go through before it can be imported to places america, these same tests do not have to be conducted in the country of origin, therefore everything that's tested for could possibly be in the fruits, meats etc which these people are bringing over. Some bacteria and parasites can grow in forgein meats and candies that livestock/plants or even humans in the country it was imported to may not have any immunity to it which could cause a pandemic.

Probably because China has very lax food regulations so meat, eggs, and dairy may not be made of the products you think of (like jello eggs or concrete filled walnuts) as well as they might have diseases. And jerky traditionally isn’t cooked but semi fermented. and also they probably confiscated it so it’s not sold in US stores and posing a health risk
That’s why it’s hard to find Chinese food outside of import stores. Luckily the Chinese government is trying to help people from buying these fake food products, especially meats.

This summer I came back from Greece and they did not even ask if we have any produce or meat it diary I was confused because they normally ask at least but most of the times they search and yes it was that exact airport JFK airport New York City every time I came back form Greece so this is annually they searched every ones except this past summer they did not even ask

My dad almost got in trouble because the airport thought he was carrying oranges into Hawaii from the mainland. He wasn't, it was juggling balls. When I went, I got snacks at the airport just to avoid trouble like that.

This is common in other counties such as Australia. I too think it’s stupid and believe that they’re going over the top, but it is possible for food to contain bugs and their eggs. If they enter the US and aren’t controlled they can wipe out entire species of plants and other bugs. Here in the UK, this has happened with Tarantulas hiding in bunches of bananas.
I hate it so much when bureaucracy gets like this. You get your exotic fruit destroyed, just to go into the city centre and find the same thing, from the same place, in an Asian supermarket.
It’s to prevent risk from any out of country diseases, parasites, bugs etc. from entering the country and invading the agricultural scene.

I do not have any issue with food confiscation EXCEPT when you take a vacation outside the USA it is nearly impossible to find out what you can't bring home on your return a week or a few weeks later. There is not one iota of user friendliness in the U. S. Customs website and it is extremely rare for a seller to even ask which country do you intend to eat this in? When we went to Europe a cheese was confiscated upon our return because if contained bits of ham. In practice the confiscations are ineffective at doing more than reducing the risk of agricultural pests and in some cases the human equivalent of an animal disease that might be in the never US inspected food product. I wish instead the customs service would just run all food though a line that ionized it with radiation to make it safe to bring into the country. That would kill any agricultural pests and with enough radiation is would even kill the seeds, while still leaving the food to eat.
Heck I couldn't even find out if I could buy diamonds when in the Netherlands and use our duty free allowances for them.
