      How can it possibly be ethical, not to condemn the believer in god?
      "My sheep hear My voice" is the mindset of slavery.
      Jesus Christ is failing for 2000 years to convince Jews God puts the New Wine of Christ into the Jew wineskin. We know them by their works: They indoctrinate children.
      But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
      They use the vocabulary of fiction, expecting everyone to pretend God made Mormons so Christians would know how Jews feel.
      Jesus was alarmed at this gathering crowd, a wicked generation seeking signs. Jesus is reminded the only sign given is that of Jonah.
      It is by faith in God Jonah offered himself a sacrifice, belief in calming the storm.
      Jonah 1:15 Then they took Jonah and threw him overboard, and the raging sea grew calm.
      16 At this the men greatly feared the Lord, and they offered a sacrifice (perhaps his family & friends or a goat) to the Lord and made vows to him.

      The fact there's one man in such a vast place to go to in order to understand their language is amazing to me. As an American with 5 English speaking parishes it's just not an issue I've faced. I couldn't imagine how difficult and frustrating that would be. Bless you for offering that solution to the individual ❤.

    I am a musician/composer/pianist. I have lived my creative life in service to my art as do I pray to Christ, and expression of my Faith, that what I do should serve the Lord, and to the best of my ability. Up until August 20th, 2022, when I lost my father to dementia, I had been his full-time care giver for 12 years. He died several months shy of his 100th birthday, cradled in my arms at hospital. My father had become my child. Since my father's passing, I have been playing piano to end-of-life patients in palliative care. I do this in memory of my father, and to express gratitude to the hospital for caring for both my father and me during the final weeks of dad's life. I am a classical musician. Playing music, and composing music, is a way of prayer for me. When I play for end-of-life patients in palliative care, it is not to distract them from their fate, rather to embrace them within the spirit of Love's kindness itself. I seek to disembody the sound from the instrument as will they soon become a spirit disembodied, to speak to them through Music of heavenly things. The Hungarian music educator, Zoltan Kodaly, said of Music that it was a manifestation of the human spirit. At its most nuance, it is a manifestation of the huma spirit at its most humane, as wholly relative to one's state a sacred thing, as it holy when intone through Grace. At a more personal level, to reflect back over my own life with its varying degrees of challenges, if it were not for Music - if it were not for my creativity - I very much doubt that I would be here. I can only hope the feeling for Eternity I wish to impart to end-of-life patients when playing for them makes for a peaceful transition, and that the rt of music-making at times to precise for words serves as their prayer as much as it has been mine. Blessings!

One time in two weeks they go to more big town to the church with English speaking priest. And they got a blissing not to confess before Communion. Just one time in two weeks.
    I hope I helped someone.

    Since joining the Church, I've found myself falling out of love with the "secular music" that used to be a huge part of my life. In fact, attending shows at Red Rocks used to be a religious practice for me. I followed assorted new age ideas and practices, but principally I was a hedonist. Then I became an "Evangelical" and substituted the music of my youth with songs about Jesus accompanied by electric guitars, drums, and synthesizers. On my journey into Orthodoxy, I had to let go of that as well, because the the theology and emotionalism was foreign to the phronema of the Church. Now I participate in the choir and am learning to chant, which is certainly fulfilling, but there's still a question I have which goes unanswered. Do I really have to let go of instrumental music entirely? I still desire to play instruments, to dance, and to jam with friends. I want to write songs and play good music that wouldn't have a place in Church services or belong to the secular world. My question is, do I have to let go of those desires, or is it possible for me to make use of my talents in a way that doesn't distract myself or others from Christ?

    • @GeorgeHart-df2hn

      I have had the same thoughts learning to play guitar… the way I see it is thus:
      is my music/worship giving God the glory and honour or am I worshipping to uplift myself?
      Am I making my instrument an idol, or am I using my instrument to idolise God?
      I think King David would have played the lyre or harp.

    Correction: Byzantine/Greek Catholics do NOT recite the Filioque in the Creed as it’s not part of their theology. Other Eastern Catholics, like the Maronites, do include it but not the Byzantine churches.

      @@sidneycline3366not sure where you attend, but the Filioque is in the official text of the Holy Quorbono, I just looked it up. You do realise that the Maronite Church is one of the most Latinized of the Uniate churches? It’s not surprising. Their liturgy closely resembles the post-Vatican II Mass of the Latin Church.

      @user-oh3tl7je1q oh I don't regularly attend a Maronite Church. I have while traveling a few times to only one Church. I apologize if I corrected you incorrectly. I don't believe it was used where I attended but I could be mistaken. I do see mention online that it is not used, but I see in the official text that it is used as well. And I am very aware of Maronite history and they Latinization. Perhaps it has become optional or perhaps I'm wrong. I attend a Byzantine Rite Liturgy, so I'm no expert on the Maronites. Just 2 tines in a Church and 1 class on Maronite history that spoke in very limited fashion on theology.

      @ΆγιοςΙερώνυμος-χ2γ 8 місяців тому

      No problem! I’m still learning about the Maronite Syriac tradition as well. I’m much more familiar with the Byzantine and Latin rites. Also found out recently that the Maronite liturgy also underwent a reform following Vatican II, so they have a new Ordo of the Mass currently from the 1990s. I think their following Rome’s lead over the centuries has gotten them into modernism nowadays, just look at how they use altar girls, Mass facing the people etc. just like the Latins.

    • @sidneycline3366
      @sidneycline3366 8 місяців тому

      @user-oh3tl7je1q yes that's true. Though not as severe, we see that arising in the Syro-malabars in India and look at all the problems it's causing there. The infiltration of modernist and post-modernist thinking is one of the greatest threats to our traditions and faith.

We go through the list together. After we attended liturgy a few times at our small house church, the priest had just completed the confessions. He looked at me sternly and pointed at me. Then he pointed to the “spot” before the Icon. Like, “Report HERE!” That was my first confession in Panama.

    I've been a musician my entire life. Music is non material, I believe it's a deeply spiritual experience. And it's difficult for me to think God would place this "worldly" stamp on it and degrade it as a "distraction".
    I feel this blessed holy father could have given a more nuanced take on the subject.

      It depends a lot on what kind of music. The emotions evoked by Led Zeppelin are quite different from those of, say, old timey Appalachian folk music, or a Bach concerto, or sophisticated intellectual jazz like Julien Lage.
      When “secular music” is brought up in this kind of context it’s usually assumed to be music conjuring dancing, fornication, and passionate behavior, ranging from classic rock to contemporary EDM. I think Fr.’s comments aptly apply to this kind of music, but less so to other types.

      As a musician who has dealt with this issue for the last 5 years of being Orthodox, I've come to the conclusion that there is value in both points of view. Music and visual arts can be a practice in glorifying God by making something that "pushes the soul to incline towards the Good" as Tarkovsky, who was a devout Orthodox Christian, put it (highly recommend reading his book on the topic, Sculpting in Time). At the same time, music and art have so much power over ones soul that the consumption of it should very much be scrutinized to the utmost extent. Plus, as artists it's better for us to produce rather than consume too much anyway.

    • @andrewswebpage
      @andrewswebpage 8 місяців тому +3

      For the past 5 years I've tried to put as much effort as possible into letting my faith inform my art, and I've naturally gravitated towards making simpler, more modest music. If I try to "go hard" or make something that "slaps" or whatever, it just takes away from the core of what could make my music good in the first place.

    • @HermitGhost
      @HermitGhost 8 місяців тому +4

      @@andrewswebpage I play death metal. Been writing and recording my own stuff for years. I depart from my contemporaries in the genre in subject matter. Instead of writing lyrics about bringing harm, I write about my struggles with sin. It's certainly not something I would call religious music, or "Christian Metal", but it has been a productive and cathartic experience.
      Whether or not I'm closer to God in doing this I'm not sure, but it does put me in a position to confront my sins using the gifts God saw fit to grant me.

      Sometimes music becomes a distraction to saying the Prayer. As a fellow musician, I struggled with letting go of my attachment to music when I first joined the Church. But I saw how I was using it, even though it was classical music, as a crutch, and not really for the glory of God.
      Ultimately, it depends on how much of God you want. It's good to figure out if you're truly using music for His glory or if you're actually doing it for yourself while deceiving yourself into believing you're doing it for Him. If you remain attached to music, that's one place that you remain attached to this world that you're not allowing God to enter and sanctify. This isn't to say that you're doing that. But having dealt with this issue already in myself, I found that in order to put God front and center in my life, I had to leave the music world, stop playing entirely, and spend years in prayer so that I could know what He wants from me. Now when I do play music for people, it's for His glory, not mine. The "need" for music in my life is gone.
      I hope this makes sense, and I pray this explanation doesn't cause you to fear growing closer to God. It's not music that's the problem, it's our attachment to it, using it in a way that not glorifying Him. He wants us to be free of these unhealthy attachments so that He can be the only God in our lives, and so that we can be with Him. We can listen to and make music, it just has to be in its proper place in our lives, under God, and not being made into a god itself. I hope that makes sense, and please forgive me if anything I said causes offense. May God bless you in your journey and prayers! Please pray for me.

    To know the things of God we must be born from above. God gives us a new heart with new desires to love righteousness. We cannot do it ourselves.
    Jesus is our high priest we go straight to Him to confess our sins and He is faithful to forgive us.
    Listening to all the rules and regulations this religion sounds like a cult you need to follow man made rules to be accepted into it. Jesus tells us to follow HIM.

      Google already knows where I live, what I say and to whom, where I go and when I do anything. My confessions are probably the last thing I have that isn't absorbed into the machine. Probably better to keep it that way

    There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.
    ~Mark 7:15
    I don't even have to watch this video to know this is going to be nonsense.

    Jesus told the disciples how to pray, and it wasn't to priests and he never said to confess sins to a priest...

      We don't pray to priests, nor do we confess to them.
      We confess to Christ, the priest is a witness.
      I pray that your heart softens in the future, and you come to the true faith, brother.
