    I have been watching your Jeep work for the last year. Previously, I had bought a 1960 CJ5 saving it from the wrecking yard. Your skills, information, techniques, etc have made me want to restore it. Everything needs rebuilding, sheetmetal restoration, etc. You have made an old man (78) want to do something to start the restoration process. The first thing will be this steering box pulled and rebuilt. I am going to try to rebuild items in the downward mode filling arriving at the sheetmetal problems. This gets my feet wet and gives me incentive to continue all the while the project is under a controlled situation as I proceed; I have "MAC degeneration" and want to continue the process as long as possible. Your videos and other information does provider insight and expert/practical experience/suggestions. One example is how, why, etc you do certain such as pitman arm, cotter pin inserting and tightening, etc. You do a great job and I am having fun in starting my project I thought I would or desired to become involved. Here we go on this journey. Thanks for all your videos.
    Keep going, Tiger! Setbacks do happen but we shall prevail.

    I was hoping you would show the assembly of all the parts into the drag link not just placing them on the bench. Manual states turn to tight on the ball then then back off 1/2 turn front and 1 full turn steer box ends. Steering box lube per manual should be 80w140 gear oil, no special lube needed.

    • @metalshaperJeep
      @metalshaperJeep  4 роки тому

      good luck with the 80w-140, it will disintegrate your steering box bushings in a very short time, and may leak out the seal quickly as well.

    In one of your videos you said you sell the correct lube for these old Willyss jeeps. I have a 52 M38A1 and my friend has a 51 cj3b. how do we order the lube from you? We need lube for trans, transfer case and diffs. Probably steering gear as well

    What is the best way to remove all the old steering lube? Do I have to pull the side cover off? Do I have to remove the fender? (sorry, I'm not a great mechanic, but I sure am loving all these videos)

    • @metalshaperJeep
      @metalshaperJeep  7 років тому

      yes, the best way to remove lube and give a cleaning is by removing the side cover. Pull out all the old grease or lube and give it a cleaning with some solvent. Get it as clean as you can before adding new fluid.

    • @aboyandhisdog
      @aboyandhisdog 7 років тому

      Thanks, Brian. Also, I've not been able to find exactly how tight to adjust the main bell crank bolt. Do I just tighten it tight and then tighten the "pincer bolt"? Or is there a specific torque to put on it?

    • @metalshaperJeep
      @metalshaperJeep  7 років тому

      I tighten them and use red loctite on the threads. Often times the nut is a locknut but I am not sure exactly what you have. Should be tightened for the size thread that it is and then install the cross bolt also with loctite on it.

    Brian, will the Miller c-748. Work for pinion seal on Dana 44. Like the Miller w-251 seal puller

    • @metalshaperJeep
      @metalshaperJeep  6 років тому +2

      I have never tried the miller c-748 but I have seen them in the past and they are much larger than the 251 that was designed to remove the seals on willys jeep vehicles. Best to find the correct tool to do the job.
